June 3, 201214 yr Author The Reds need to sweep today and come home and take care of business on the 9 game home stand. They play 3 with the Pirates an offensively challenged team. They'll miss James McDonald and face ex-Red Brad Lincoln in a rare start by the reliever. They then play the Tigers who are struggling to get to .500 and are 5-5 in their last 10. They will see Verlander but lately he has proven hittable. They then finish the stand with 3 against in-state rival Cleveland who is currently 4 games over .500 but 4-6 in their last 10. Sounds to me like an opportunity to open some distance between themselves and the Cardinals. Brad Lincoln never pitched for the Reds. He is a former 1st round pick for the Pirates. You are thinking of Mike Lincoln.

You can't be naive enough to think Reds fans are the only fan base that questions made by their manager. You've obviously never been to the Cardinals message boards. They complained about lineups and moves made by LaRussa all the time.

They complained about lineups and moves made by LaRussa all the time. Nope, not that naive at all. It is the nature of baseball to second guess moves. For me it is the amount of second guessing and, to be honest, about half of the second guessing I see on here is obviously wrong. Maybe that is the thing that irritates me. As long as there is a legitimate explanation for a decision, I am not going to slam a manager. The vast majority of the decisions made by Dusty that get slammed on here are decisions that make logical sense and would be made by the vast majority of managers. It also is irritating to see a complaint about every day's lineup regardless of how it is set up. Most on here seem to think every game and lineup should be managed as if it were game 7 of the world series. You can't manage a season that way. You have to get all players on your roster playing time and you need to rest your stars. You can't put your best 8 on the field every single game.

I loved listening to talk show in those markets, because the fans were always going crazy. Ask any media persin Cincinnati is a lamb
June 3, 201214 yr Look I'm way past thinking you should play your best lineup everyday. That's what teams like the 75 Reds did and that didn't workout at all. I would just line to see the same lineup 2 days in a row. Is that too much to ask?

Between 75 and 76 the primary 8 guys only started together about 25% of the time. Obviously Sparky sucked too...

June 3, 201214 yr Brandon Phillips has to run that ball out. Top of the eighth, another run on third that scores if he gets on base and Phillips jogs to first. The first baseman bobbles the ball, the pitcher almost runs past the bag on the toss but Phillips puts no pressure on either one of them because he doesn't run hard. Unacceptable.
