Football forum, football thread. If you want to compare the two schools overall athletic programs go start a thread in another forum. Make sure you include soccer, swimming, cross country, bowling, track and bass fishing comparisions too.

Threads like this make me leave BGP from time to time. Adults who have nothing better to do than talk bad about HS teams with KIDS working hard to win. Remember when you are posting rude comments in HS sports threads you not only come off stupid but you are talking about KIDS. It does not matter where you went to school grow up and act like an adult.! This is about the always talented HHS football program and playing Ohio competition or other stronger teams that would be a better matchup than it would be vs. The NKY teams they play. I went to and played at NewCath. I now live in Independence and our kids will attend Simon Kenton. Wanted to throw that out there so people know that one person acting like an itiot who seems to be a NewCath fan doesnt talk for us all. If NCC and HHS playes it could be a 100 point night for the Birds if they wanted. NOW BACK TO THE REAL TOPIC!!!!!!!

Your post is sort of difficult to understand, but you started to lose me at softball and really lost me at volleyball. Also, this is a discussion about football in a football forum, so calm down buddy. Go ahead and be happy about those other "sports."

 

Highlands has a better football team, but they are suppposed to... Highlands has many more students and are in a larger class.

 

On your comment on the kids playing the game... Why would you tell everyone else what they should do when you are commenting as well... looks like you might be the hater. Hater.

I have thought about this a few times and have decided on the ten teams from Ohio I want to see Highlands battle.

2-Cincy Colerain

3-Kettering Alter

4-Lakewood St.Ed's

5-Canton Mckinley

6-Youngstown Cardinal Mooney

8-Marion Franklin

9-Tri-Valley

Most of those schools are too big ncf. However, I would love to see a home and away with The Big Red!

I know some of the schools are much larger, but overall I think Highlands could play against most of them.

Up and coming city league team from Columbus, who plays as a team.

Really, please name some public schools the size of Highlands (approx. 100 boys per grade) that play a national or semi-national (whatever that is) schedule. I am not aware of any much less "most teams". Also, why would they travel 2 or more hours to play teams that are of the similar or less quality than local teams less than an a half hour away? More expensive for the schools, more hardship for their fans with no additional benefit to the kids or the team.

 

Actually, I do wish they would play some of the large Cincinnati area public schools (e.g., Anderson, Mason, Sycamore, etc.) or good Cincinnati area teams of comparable school size but unfortunately the Ohio Harbin playoff system discourages the Ohio schools from playing that type of game (so I get why they don't want to take that chance as they have more to lose than just bragging rights of the game--although it also seems to me that a bubble or near playoff team would likewise have more to gain from a win against a Harbin Point cow like Highlands that might help them make the playoffs). So that leaves only the GCL South teams and for them it is a no brainer to play Highlands as their alternative game is to travel 2 to 4 hours every other year to play a game against other larger schools who in most years would be better than Highlands as they struggle to fill out a 10 game regular season schedule. So I don't see it so much as a "love affair with the GCL" (your words) so much as the only local games they can find against great competition against teams that struggle with a similar issue so that makes it a match of convenience that works for both sides.

 

I suppose I should have specified. Teams competing for a " national championship" (which usually have over 200 boys in each class) don't have a head coach talking frequentely about winning a national title, but a coach with only 100 boys per class is doing it all the time. if you want to win this "national title" you need to expand outside of the GCL. Teams that win the "national championship" are huge schools no doubt, but they also play great programs on a semi to national level.

Everyone who is jumping on this bandwagon of "Dale said this" and "Dale said that" really need to understand who Dale is as a person and a coach, as well as the culture at Highlands. Then perhaps there would be fewer of these wild suggestions that Highlands pretend to be a school ten times their size and play that type of schedule.

Maybe, but the fact remains that Highlands has been ranking Nationally for several years. I stand by my statement, Highlands doesn't get to say, "that school is too big".

Uh, how many times has Dale actually said Highlands should be in the hunt for the mythical national title? What years? Links to quotes from Dale please to back up your answer. I can remember one year and one year only that Dale actually said his team should be considered for the national championship (2009).

 

 

And for the record I do think that in order to claim a national title Highlands or any other school has to play a more high profile schedule, similar to what Trinity played this past season.

 

What I find rather ironic in this thread is there are some folks criticizing Highlands football for supposedly hurting Highlands baseball and basketball, and some folks criticizing Highlands for not playing a tougher schedule. If Dale was seriously going after the national title, and taking on regional powerhouses to do so, you would really see baseball and basketball suffer as Dale would have to have his all his players concentrate on football and only football 24/7/365. He would have to do exactly what most reasonable adults don't want a coach to do: influence/pressure his players to only play one sport. As it is now, there actually is a nice balance. Baseball had a great year and here's hoping basketball will have a strong year. As jpa mentioned in the NCC-Highlands baseball thread, Mueller has been very supportive of the baseball program. He has also been very supportive of the basketball program. He's doing it the right way.

 

For those focusing on Dale's national championship, or even just national ranking, comments, you really need to think it through. It's just coach-speak Dale uses to motivate his kids. You know the same stuff you hear from your coaches all the time; just focusing on a much lower level of accomplishment. Heck, I've read plenty of comments from Ky coaches saying their teams will contend for a state championship or even a regional championship without the schedule to prepare them or for that matter the talent on the team to back up the comments. I realized it was just coach-speak and didn't criticize the coaches for the comments. I"m honestly surprised there are adults not smart or wise enough to realize that about Dale's comments. Or maybe they do and are just looking for something to criticize Highlands football about.

You wanna bet. Highlands gets to say what ever they want to say when it comes to their schedule with the exception of the the required District games.

And if a couple of those games were not mandatory they would be looking to improve their schedule further.

Dale and Highlands can hand pick their schedule each and every year due to their State and National success.

If I had a dime for every 5A or 6A school in KY that has answered Dale's request to play with a "thanks but not thanks", I could afford to pay for a couple of those long trips to Columbus and Canton.

 

And if I had a dime for all the Highlands Haters who want to see Highlands lose every game every week then well............I could pay for the planes trips to the West Coast and South Beach, Jersey and Katy. :lol:
