Here is the problem with YOUR religion. You have not set foot in my church, not met the people, don't know the pastor. We read the and understand the bible differently than you. Your religion has taught you to sit in your chair at home and judge what is in my heart and the heart of people in my church. Maybe that is false religion.

 

Maybe churches who elect smokers as deacons practice a false religion because smokers are obviously sinners. (For the record, I am not comparing smoking and being gay. I think smoking is much more harmful to the individual and the community, I am not aware of any second hand gay).

 

Maybe your religion is false in that you accept the scripture as inerrant, when we know facts like parts of Mark were added much later and reflected the teachings of the community and not the author. We also know that the paternalistic, conservative, world powergrabbing, catholic church of old, ARBITRARILY (too strong of a word but it gets close) chose which books were to be put into the Canon (does that have two "n"s).

 

Maybe your religion is false because you don't choose to practice true hermeneutics or exegesis. Maybe because you let your culture color your interpretation - as we all do.

 

I am not going to judge your religion and say that it is false but how dare you sir, say that mine is.

 

Now, it is one in the morning so I am not nearly as indignant as this sounds, but it is much more fun to pound away on the keyboard like I am indignant.

 

FWIW my father-in-law was a professor of preaching and hermeneutics at Southern Baptist Seminary when, in his words, it was still a reputable institution and I never want to speak for him, but I think his beliefs are much more in line with mine than with yours. What does that say, I don't know, but he is a learned man and well respected in his field. The Catholic, Thomas Merton, was the subject of his dissertation.

Yes, you are in a false religion if you don't do and teach what the bible says, don't get upset with me, get upset with Jesus. They are many false teachers out there. You need to follow hat the bible teaches.

I love the answer that start with... Well the Bible says... That's great but it was written thousands of years ago. People/society evolve and I see no reason why it would upset you if Bill and Bill get married.

I'll say it again, they can be together, I don't is them wanting to use the word marriage. It is in the Bible and I have to respect that, if you other folks don't care or the word doesn't bother you, thats fine.

Was in the car most of the morning and heard a couple of interesting points. I do not know if either is true, just repeating what I heard.

 

The first thing was on Mandy Connell's show this morning she said that when Obama was running for the IL Senate in the more liberal Chicago area he was for gay marriage. When he ran for the US Senate and needed votes from more rural areas he was against it. Now he's for it again.

 

The second was on Rush so take it for what you want. There was an article from the Washington Post stating that 1 in 6 of Obama's bundlers was gay and they were withholding the money they were raising.

The problem is Larry, that this is not a religious issue. This is a civil issue. This is a state recognition issue. It is not a Catholic/Baptist issue b/c nobody has ever stated that denominations and religions must recognize these marriages.

 

People are pushing their religious agendas, but should have nothing to do w/ religion other than the moral codes that are reflected in the Constitution. This is an equal protection and fundamental rights issue.

I'll take this to mean, I'm going to continue to avoid the question because I don't have a valid answer and instead continue to randomly use the Bible to defend my position.

 

It's a simple question. Bill and Bob are married. How does the fact that they're married negatively impact Alabama Larry and his daily life? And please, answer without saying "the Bible says so". I want a real world example of how them calling it a marriage has a negative impact on you.
