I have no problem with the President using this. Osama bin Laden deserved to be brought to justice & Obama was the one who green-lighted the attack that led to bin Laden's demise. I personally give him credit for that. In fact, I think he would be foolish not to use it.

 

What I did hear that I didn't like was that Obama allegedly has a campaign ad essentially saying that Mitt Romney would not have done the same thing. I haven't seen the ad, but just heard some rumblings about it. If it's true, I think that is in very poor taste & the President should be criticized. Has anyone else seen this, or can anyone verify/refute this?

 

I haven't seen that ad either. I've seen some quotes that have resurfaced from 2008 when McCain was criticizing Obama for saying he would go into Pakistan to get OBL if need be. Romney said he disagreed with Obama on that as well. I don't know if that's part of the ad or not.

I wouldn't have either. If you want other countries to respect our sovereignity, you have to respect their's. Our relations with Pakistan have taken a big, big hit as a result of this matter. Last thing we need to do is lose an ally in that region. Killing OBL may turn out to be one of those "we won the battle, but it caused us to lose the war" type of things.

 

And please, please do not tell me that I'd have been fine with it if Bush, McCain, etc. had pulled the trigger. I would not have been fine with it.

Unfortunately, in the world of politics one isn't allowed to change their minds or positions without being labled a "flip-flopper" or an "etch-a-sketch" candidate.

As to the "etch-a-sketch" I would argue that's completely different assuming you are referring to Mr Romney's campaign manager using the "etch-a-sketch" term. He essentially said "We'll say one thing in the primaries but that doesn't mean we mean it when it comes to winning the general election."

 

Mr Romeny may find himself in the "I changed my mind " category when it comes to the killing of Bin Laden.

Ds and Rs were criticizing Candidate Obama in regards to foreign policy saying he wouldn't be "tough" or asking if we wanted him answering the 2:00 call. National Security has always been politicizied. This is no different. It's no different than Gov Romney standing in a firehouse in NYC that lost a lot of firefighters on 9.11 and standing there with Rudy G. It was a big deal. It's going to be mentioned.

What other horn do you expect him to "toot"? Forcing healthcare on the nation? Running up the national debt to trillions and trillions? Maybe the robust economy?

It will certainly take some spin to tout economic success.

 

My guess is we'll see something about energy ie US oil consumption down while supply up. US troops withdrawing from Iraq and soon Afghanistan. I'm sure the car companies will be mentioned. Probably something about green jobs created.

 

I'd also expect to see Karl Rove run an ad showing President Obama saying he would be a one-term POTUS if he didn't get the economy turned around.

If Romney is smart he will hammer home the economic issues and I think he is smart. Plus, if Romney has a strength it is economics.
