It was in poor taste to claim that Romney wouldn't have given the order. Any sitting president with brains enough to tie their own shoe would have given the order, I don't care what rhetoric they may have spewed beforehand or even after. It's proof of what I said quite a few times, this is going to get ugly. Buckle up.

If Romney is smart he will hammer home the economic issues and I think he is smart. Plus, if Romney has a strength it is economics.

 

Tell me about his economic strengths as it relates to those who vote. He's going to have to overcome the perception of him turning over companies by cutting jobs. I'm sure mathematically and financially it made sense but tell that to the unemployed. Not an easy hurdle for him. He's also going to have to overcome saying the auto industry should go through bankruptcy. Again, textbook finance says that may have been smart. Again, though, tell that to the auto workers and suppliers who would have been out of work.

 

He's also going to have to try to distinguish his state's insurance plan vs the plan put forth and passed by President Obama and Congress. I'm not sure if nitpicking will work.

 

I would try to keep it high level when on the stump if I were him. The criticism he has received rings true with many especially those unemployed or underemployed. The President obviously doesn't have much to stand on when it comes to the economy. I'm just not sure Gov Romney will be able to get down to brass tacks and show the differences that will ring true with those in the middle.

I hear what you are saying Clyde. The unemployed and underemployed will vote for Obama again, because he promises to keep their benefits going.

 

The crash will come when other countries (like China) decide to call in their debts. We (USA) will look like fools then.

 

I don't blame Obama for taking credit for eliminating Osama bin Laden. my thoughts tend to echo Leathernecks from an earlier post in this thread. I continue to believe the best military posture is to be equally as secretive as our enemies, and when at war we kill, and DON"T rebuild. That should be up to the loser. In a fight, the loser doesn't get lifted up by the winner and then trained so they can fight again. That is the equivalent of our military position since WWII.

It will certainly take some spin to tout economic success.

 

My guess is we'll see something about energy ie US oil consumption down while supply up. US troops withdrawing from Iraq and soon Afghanistan. I'm sure the car companies will be mentioned. Probably something about green jobs created.

 

I'd also expect to see Karl Rove run an ad showing President Obama saying he would be a one-term POTUS if he didn't get the economy turned around.

 

I don't think Obama wants' to talk energy too much when the extent of what most people pay attention to is the price of a gallon of gasoline.

George W/ Bush would have done the same thing if the Iraq War had turned out to be as easy as the administration expected it to ... that's what the "Mission Accomplished" press conference on the aircraft carrier was for. If Iraq had turned out to be a cakewalk, that imagery was going to be in every campaign ad in 2004.

I'm with UKMF. Why wouldn't he use the slaying of OBL as political gain? I think it'd be foolish not to.

The point here is, that 3 years ago, Obama said that (EIT"S) were torture. Obama said he would eliminate these tactics. Had it not been for these tactics, we would not have got the intell we needed to capture the man that led us to OBL. It took 2 weeks of proding Obama that the window of opportunity was vanishing, before he FINALLY relented and gane the order to proceed. And then after OBL was killed, Obama said he would not (spike the ball) as in a victory celebration. NOW,,,,,,, as he has NOTHING positve to run on, he is (spiknig the ball)

It's the mindset Obama hopes for. Exactly why his ad questions if Romney would have given the order to take out Osama, and for those that think that way, the ad will work for him.

As was stated early on hin this thread, Bush and some republicans used things like 9/11, Iraq and Osama for political gain. Have people forgotten the word "9/11" being repeated over and over during the 2004 and 2008 elections by republicans? Just one of those things that one side does it they don't see why anyone would have an issue with it, until the other side does the same thing to them.
