Who will they hire at Morehead State?

Featured Replies

Didn't he apply when they hired Tyndall?

If he did, the addition of a National Championship to his resume will improve his chances.

Agree

I am talking about overall community support and facilities. Murray State, Belmont, and APSU I assume would be at the top of the list as far as OVC schools go. Just like in any conference there would be a pecking order of tradition and university commitment.
I would agree ... in the OVC, that's probably it, aside from maybe Southeast Missouri..

I would be stunned if Wells didn't get serious consideration for the job, given his local ties. I don't see a whole lot of Division I assistants knocking down the door to get the job.

Wells would be a good choice.

Wow, still that much hate for the "Smith's"?

Not me personally, but I know a lot that do. Let's just say I can't see Saul Smith helping with some donors.

- Kelly Wells

- Sean Woods

- Wade O'Connor

- Allen Edwards

- John Brannen

There are a couple of others who could emerge. MSU will likely have a new coach in about a week or maybe a little longer.

In talking to sources around college basketball, John Pelphrey, Darrin Horn and Happy Osborne are not candidates. Phil Cunningham just accepted a job on Ray Harper's staff at WKU.

Not sure why Sean Woods would be interested. If he was a serious candidate for Southern Miss, I see no reason he should settle for a school like Morehead.

I would like to see Edwards or Brannen be given the opportunity.

My Brother is a MSU alumni. He says that Tyndall and Wells did not like each other at all and that MSU pushed hard to keep Pikeville from becoming a state sponsored school. Does that mean anything with Hiring Wells dont know? Coach Tyndall pushed hard for his Asst. Wade O'connor to get the job in an article in the courier-journal. Pikeville certainly has put the money into the basketball program. Will MSU do the same for Coach Wells to be successful there?

Does anyone know if Coach Wells is interested?

That is what I was thinking as well.

Agree on the bolded and good question. This could have some input on, if Well's will even get a interview. Will be interesting to see.

That is true, but it didn't have anything to do with the basketball coaches.

I would think there first choice would be Kelly Wells. Played there. Has a very good coaching resume. No brainer if you ask me. I guess the question would be does he want the job?

Nobody like Tyndall at Morehead. He sat the bench and backed up a very average guard in Patrick Tubbs. Kelly coming home from Tulsa was big news back then. He probably didn't like Kelly getting the attention that he got. I know both of them, Kelly better than Donnie. And no love is lost between those two at all.
