May 10, 201214 yr Which 3 are left? ANy idea why Brannen pulled out? I have no clue. I actually was told that at like 11 p.m. last night so I haven't had a chance to see what's going on. My guess is that Graves, O'Connor, Woods and Brannen (if he hasn't pulled out) would be those in the mix.

Wade O'Connor, Matthew Graves (Associated Head Coach at Butler) Sean Woods (Mississippi Valley State) John Brennan (assistant at Alabama) and Brett Nelson (assistant at Drake) Of those five, Matthew Graves should be heads and shoulders above the rest. He is the associated head coach at a school who went to back-to-back NCAA runner-ups. He has success with recruiting in the state of Kentucky, i.e. Sheldon Mack from Bryan Station and Kameron Woods from Louisville Eastern. He has also been listed as one of the top assistants at the mid-major level for the last couple of years. He has been a coach at Butler for nine seasons and is looking to get a head coaching job. I really think he should be the top choice. We have already talked about Woods and Brennan. Nelson was an All-American player at Florida. He was an assistant under Donnie Jones at Marshall and UCF. He has also had stops at Alabama and Florida before ending up at Drake. May 11, 201214 yr Coach Wells wasn't going to apply at all but was asked to by Hutchinson so if he pulled himself after this report I don't blame him. If Morehead wanted to build a program and have someone who stayed for the LONG haul, Wells is was THE guy. If they want to be a stepping stone for other jobs, hire one of the "Top 5"........ :thumb: I agree. It is amazing what Wells has done at Pikeville. Basically started a team over from scratch and won a national championship within about five years. I believe he would be even more successful at MSU given all the ties and motivation to succeed that would have likely came with it. I do understand his wives family is from Delbarton WV, I'm wanting to say, so staying in Pikeville keeps him close to her family. However, Morehead still isn't that far away and would put Kelly closer to his family. Wells has made a big difference at Pikeville College (UPike ), but what most people don't see is the difference he has made in Pike County in general. He has done so much for the area just being the basketball coach at the local college, I couldn't imagine the impact he would have at home. People talking about being able to recruit, well he has got some pretty nice talent to come play for Pikeville, if he can do that I have no doubt he could get guys to come to MSU.

Not Knocking MSU. WHat I am saying there is not standard set at MSVS. If he can continue to build on his current success and turn MSVS in a constant tourney team other bigger Mid-majors may tak notice faster than at MSU. He is setting the standard. Also able to leave his mark easier at MSVS than MSU. Tyndall raised the bar at MSU. Woods can set the bar at MSVS. My thinking behind is the OVC is a tougher league. Plus Tyndall left a higher standard.

Interviews are ongoing and there is speculation that a decision could be made as early as today (almost certainly by Monday). The final three are (in no particular order): - Wade O'Connor - Associate Head Coach, Morehead State - Sean Woods - Head Coach, Mississippi Valley State - Matthew Graves - Associate Head Coach, Butler University
