June 23, 201214 yr Author The 1/2 price Fox Run deal is back after getting sold out quickly the last time. I just bought 8 of them. Cincinnati Coupons, Save money, Grocery - CincySavers.com That deal always goes EXTREMELY fast and rightfully so.
June 24, 201214 yr I feel the need to share because I am extremely proud of my round I had on Sunday. I woke up Sunday morning around 8 and just had an overwhelming feeling to go golf. It had been about 2 weeks since I'd golfed last and the crave finally got to me. So, I got on GolfNow and looked for a good price around Lexington. Came across a deal for a course called Cassell Creek in Winchester for 10:00, which would give me enough time to run by Wal Mart and pick up some golf balls on my way out. I'd never played there before, but the course looked fairly open and not too difficult when I arrived. At this point, please note that I am generally a mid-90's player who can occasionally score in the high 80's. My first drive went dead straight, a rare occurrence for me due to my nasty slice. Second shot put me on the green and I proceeded to 2-putt for par. Great way to start the day, if I do say so myself. Next, I pull up to a 195 yard par 3. Whip out my 3 iron and give it a good whack. Again, I'm on the green in regulation and I 2-putt to another par. Man, this is going to be a GREAT day! The goal now is to not fall apart completely. Then comes the 525 yard par 5 with a dogleg right. My drive goes a little short of the bend, a pathetic 225 yard drive that had way too much loft to it. 300 yards to the hole... I can't really see the hole from where I'm at, but I have a decent line with my naturally occurring slice. Out comes my 3-wood (best club in my bag) and I give it what feels like the best hit of my life. I mean this ball ROCKETED off my club and went exactly where I wanted it. I've got to be dead middle of the fairway, maybe 50 yards short of the cup. So as I'm driving up and looking for my ball, I just can't seem to find it anywhere. How do you lose your ball in the middle of the fairway?? You place it 4 feet from the cup is how. Tap in for Eagle. Skip ahead to the back 9, and I'm lying about 120 yards out from the hole. Let's use a 9-iron for this one. Smooth hit and the ball sails on a perfect line towards the flag stick. Lands a few feet short, but rolling... Rolling.... OH BABY!!!! Another Eagle!!!! This is where I decided I'm going to at least par out the last several holes, because I'm looking at a great score as it is. I end up going -2 the rest of the way and finishing with a score of 75... 3 over par. This was officially the best round of golf I will ever play in my life, and I still don't know what the heck came over me. It felt like every shot went exactly where I wanted for the entire day. I'm sure I'll be back to my old self next time I go out, but I'm considering retiring on top at this point. I love this sport. Great round of golf! Cassel Creek used to be known as Sportland. It is the first 18 hole course I ever played, back in 1982, the first year I started playing golf. I haven't played there in a couple of years but it is a fun course to play, open and no sand traps. Another 18 hole course in Winchester not far from Cassel Creek is Southwind. It plays about 6200 from the tips, the other set of tees plays about 5800. They also have a nice restuarant there after your round is over. The prices are very reasonable: Golf around $22 (that was last year) and food is not expensive...and they fix a great steak.
June 25, 201214 yr I took my 13 year old out to Fox Run around 5pm today for 9 holes. We had the entire course to ourselves. He birdied # 8. Playing from the ladies tees he hit it about 20 yards short of the green chipped to the fringe and drained a 30 footer. He was very excited. I've had a lot of great times golfing this year but his expression and excitement after his birdie tops the list.

I've had a lot of great times golfing this year but his expression and excitement after his birdie tops the list. That's good stuff. Ironically I have a 13yo that's a very athletic kid. His best sport is football, but loves to hunt and fish and flatly told me that he'd rather do those things. I commended him for the decision. He's a pretty solid basketball player. He runs, jumps, handles the ball well, but doesn't love the game enough to put the work in to be as good as he could be. I said to my wife, I wished he'd find something he's passionate about. Well, one year ago, it became golf. He plays every day. I gave him my G15s and he literally plays every day of the week. I am lucky to play once a week. The little fart shot an 88 with me the other day and I only beat him by 5 strokes. It won't be long and he's gonna get me. I love the fact that it's a game we can play together for years. Enjoy that young man shutitdown. Won't be long til he's airmailing you off the tee. I look forward to and dread that all at the same time.
June 25, 201214 yr Great post Spindoc. Our boys are very similar. My boy is a hell of a baseball player and can light it up from 3 land but he doesn't enjoy them and had some major anxiety issues when he did play. He was on a baseball team that didn't lose a game for about 4 years and he played a great 1B, hit the hell out of the ball and pitches lefty. Ironically he bats and golfs righty. He got to where he didn't enjoy it and it was a challenge to get him to the games. He struggled a little tonight but shot 93 from the ladies tees at Fox Run a couple of weeks ago. I'm hoping I've found his thing and he's doing a golf camp at The Golf Ranch in Burlington this summer. I got him started with lessons as well at the Ranch with Andrew Stephens who shot a 61 at Triple Crown and has 3 other course records. I showed my boy that on Andrew's website and that has him excited. I'm giving him about 2 years until he's beating me as I'm a lowly 12 handicapper. I can't wait till that day and look forward to many years of enjoying golf with both of my boys.

Unfortunately, I am going to be broke for the next several weeks (dang furniture for the new house I'm renting starting in August. :irked: ) so that means no golf for a little while. I'm quite depressed about that...

So, of course, I bought him some junior clubs (lefty) when he was around 8 just to beat around. Then he took an old set of Taylormade Burners I had (righty) and looked very comfortable with them. So, he now whacks em right handed. We signed him up for the EKJGA (Eastern KY Jr Golf Assoc.) and he's played in 3 meets so far. The first one was a father and son match and we had a blast. It's not ridiculously expensive, and it's gotten him exposed to other courses and how matchplay works away from typical school matches that he played in for the middle school. I suppose he's been asked to play for the high school this fall and he's totally geeked about it. And he's playing as I type, lucky turd.
June 25, 201214 yr I just got the new Rocketballz Driver for my birthday. I still haven't hit it yet but I can't wait to try it out. I've heard great things about it. Great stories, I didn't start beating my dad till I was about 18 because I had a ton of free time and he didn't. Now it's the other way around and he beats me again. :irked: Them old guys that drive it 220-250 but straight down the middle every time. Drives me nuts. :irked:

June 25, 201214 yr I'm just getting back into golf after about 5 years that I haven't really played at all...My current set of clubs are all Arnold Palmer clubs that was one of those box set deals, I got them probably 10 years ago for christmas at that time I was 14...I didn't really take very good care of them and they are in pretty rough condition so I am looking to upgrade...I have a nice stand bag that I bought a few years ago but I am looking to try to piece a complete set together on my own without buying a box set...Yesterday I bought the 2010 Nike vr str8-fit tour driver for $80 brand new at Dunhams which seemed like a good deal it said it was originally $400 I believe, has anyone swung one of these? Now I'm looking to upgrade my Irons and get a new Putter...I'm very close to buying the Nickent 6DX Hybrid-Iron Set 3H-5H, 6-PW from Dicks for $199 originally $599 but I wanted to see if anyone on here has any experience with those or that brand...From what I can gather it seems to be a decent brand but one that was recently bought out by Dicks because they were going under...I'm also looking at buying a Pinemeadow Putter from Dunhams that seems to be a clone of Oddysey Putter, I have also researched Pinemeadow and it seems they make quality products... I just thought some of you guys might know a little more than me since I haven't been in the game for a while...I'm trying to put together a decent set of clubs without buying a full set of Nike or Callaway's or one of the big brands and without having to buy a cheap box set like an Intek or Acuity or whatever all those brands make...I'll probably just keep my Arnold Palmer 3&5 Woods for now, I never seemed to use them a whole lot anyways...So between the Nike Driver I already purchased, the Nickent Irons/Hybrids and the Pinemeadow Putter I will be looking at a total of around $300 which doesn't seem to bad...
June 25, 201214 yr I got a brand new set of Callaway x20 irons on eBay for 270 bucks. Great clubs. For a novice golfer, I wouldn't recommend spending money on a putter quite yet. You can find a good deal on some irons on eBay. I'd recommend going that route. After I got those, I had a Taylormade r7 drive that I got last year for like 100 bucks and added a Titleist vokey wedge, traded my x20 4 iron for a Hybrid Walter Hagen 4 iron. I spent a total of about 400 bucks and have a solid set of clubs. You don't have to settle for the less expensive brands. Just buy them at the right place at the right price.

It's money in the bank. I play with my uncle every now and then. Out drive him by 100-150 yards and he still finds a way to beat me every other round.
June 25, 201214 yr Great advice. I went to Golf Galaxy in Louisville and they had a really solid deal to upgrade by giving you the value of your clubs + 50% if you bought new set of irons or new driver. So, you don't have to drop 1500 bucks to get a quality set.

I'm very happy with it..the ball definately rockets off of it!!!
