April 24, 201214 yr I just started this year. I'm a mid 90's player for the most part. Occasionally I'll shoot high 80's. I've been about ten times this year already. I'm hooked. Got an eagle on the first par 5 at Sandy Creek near Ashland, KY. About freaked out when I saw my second shot with a 3 wood hit a few feet from the hole. Ever since then, I've hit my 3 wood better than any club in my bag. My driving is terrible. I have the most wicked slice on every single one of my drives. I aim about 45 degrees to the left on every drive to get it close to the fairway. Sometimes that doesn't even help. Weird though... I can hit my woods straight as an arrow. I've only played at Sandy Creek and Austin Hills in Ashland. Picadome in Lexington. I'll move to tougher courses when I get a little better. I am beyond addicted right now. I plan to spend many days this summer out on the links.

Grip your club normally with your left hand (if you are right handed) and then when you bring your right hand in rotate your club face gradually until it takes your slice out. It will feel very uncomfortable and abnormal at first but it works. Just be sure to bring your club straight back and keep your club face the way you had it locked with your right wrist. Do not turn your club face in too much though or you will cause your shots to hook. Just takes a slight turn inward on the club face and you should start seeing straighter balls. Another common mistake people make is trying to kill the ball. With all the technology clubs these days do all the work themselves. The main thing is to focus on smooth contact with the ball and club face and if struck properly the ball will fly. When you start trying to kill the ball is usually when your swing comes apart and you have terrible shots off the tee. A good smooth swing for contact will usually net you way more yardage and a much better shot. Hope this helps........

I went golfing last year and someone mentioned that my swing was ok but I just needed to turn my wrists over like I was trying to hit a ball down the third base line. That made all the difference in the world.

April 24, 201214 yr Author Congrats Sportsfan, just keep with it. Golf is a beautiful game, but its also a game that can get you pretty worked up if you really stress about it. Main thing is to always enjoy being out on the course no matter how good/bad you are playing. I've been playing for almost 12 years now (started around the age of 12) and only really got pretty decent at it 4 or 5 years ago. Made it out for the first time of the year last week and I can already tell I'm hit with the bug. Going to try to play a few times a week from now until it gets too cold. Love it. I think this is my favorite part, when I get out on the course I just throw my cell phone in the bag and don't look at it until we get done playing. Such a great feeling to not be worrying about any thing else at all.

Just have fun with it. If you don't play at 2-3 times a week chances are you aren't going to be that great so don't get mad or frustrated after every shot. Once I realized I was an 80-95 (Depending on how often I play) player instead of thinking I should be in the 70's it was a lot more relaxing.
April 25, 201214 yr The best is when you play in scrambles and you can really focus on playing one shot at a time, instead of string 3-6 good ones together. I'm playing in one this weekend and really looking forward to it.
April 25, 201214 yr Author We will need to play some, especially since our mutual friend is now my roommate haha! I'm off on Thurs, Fri, Sat every week, all you guys have to do is let me know when. Now that I've got a car he doesn't even have to come pick me up any more.

Some of the best times on the course for me have been in scrambles with a couple of the guys my dad plays with. I don't think I've ever laughed as hard in my life, some of those cats had some one liners for the ages.
