Maybe this upcoming year there will be a bump, but in the long run the program will be just fine. I think it would be a great mistake to limit the search to just assistants who are there now. Why not go after an assistant at a program that has had great success, ala a guy like Dale Anderson from Southwestern several years ago.

 

While WHitley may not be a plum job in the state, it is a good job that many assistants would jump at.

There are some EXCELLENT assistants who will make great head coaches if given the chance. In fact, there is one who is up for the SL job who would be a GREAT fit for Whitley County if he doesn't get the SL job, knows the district well, and is hungry to be a head coach. :sssh:

I don't believe that Scenters would be interested in being the D coordinator as is being rumored. However, my sources have indicated that SL really likes him and would love to have him on board. They could be trying to get him as an associate head coach, but I don't think with the pay scale he could relocate his family for that or afford to buy gas to drive from Richmond every day, especially right now. Scenters will make SOMEONE a great head coach. Mark it down. While I sincerely hope it is South Laurel, it could be Whitley County if indeed Gentry leaves and Scenters applies for that job. However, I don't have enough reliable sources in Whitley to know that situation very well right now.

They deserve better than what they are getting right now. If he is staying, he ought to go to Les or someone and say "Please quote me as saying in big bold letters 'I am staying at Whitley County, end of discussion' ". If he is going, then do the same. But let the kids and the program move forward. This is getting ridiculous. Somebody needs to think about the impact on the kids.

The program has tradition, the facilities are outstanding, the entire administration is very supportive of the sports program, the talent level is up, this years team is talented and experienced, the job will pay among the best in the state and the administration will arrange it so that the coach will not have to spend very much time in the classroom. A coach could come in, win a couple of districts (very doable), and basically write his own check. Whitley County is hungry for a winner.

 

Additionally, Whitley County is a beautiful place to live with the mountains and lakes. Knoxville and Lexington with their shopping and cultural activities are easy one hour drives. Corbin and London are wet. There are three new golf course moving into the immediate area.

Alan Ysidro has shown that he is loyal to the program, loves the kids, and can get the job done.

It would be nice to have Coach Campbell and his staff back. If Coach Campbell is not a possibility, my vote is for either Al Yasidro or Cotton Adams. Al can do the job and do it well but, it would be fun to see Cotton back on the sidelines as a head coach for a couple of years..

Just talked to my friend from the area about election results etc. and he said that there was a for sale sign out in Gentry's yard. I think that the job at Whitley would be a difficult one at best, simply because it plays in 4 A, and to get outside of the region is extremely tough, they might win a district here or there, but when region or state is highly unlikely.

So I would not want to coach there, just because of that fact, St. X and Trinity. But if Whitley would go to a three A then I think it would be a great job, because at that point they would have numbers. Also is it true that the sup. put an ad in the paper saying Gentry would stay, what is to make of that? Does he not control that school, just curious, would someone please respond, thanks...
