My father never went to college a day in his life, but you'd think he had a Phd from UK the way he is fiercely loyal to the UK basketball program. So we were raised drinking the blue kool-aid too. I think just because they are the University of Kentucky, for people in the state with no loyalty/experience with another college (WKU, Murray, etc.) or a specific city (Louisivlle, Bowling Green, etc.), UK becomes 'your' program by default. If UK had been named the University of Lexington, there would not be the huge number of 'U of Lex' fans as there are for the University of KENTUCKY. Plus I've read that Rupp purposely avoided interstate play back in the day with the intention of making UK THE state team. With a son at WKU, I'm now a proud Topper fan!

I'd argue that I'm one of the biggest UK supporters on this site, but I don't have any issue with Louisville. In fact I like to see them do well, as long as they aren't playing my Cats, or another handful of teams I like more. Louisville being good is better for the rivalry, state, and my friends.

I have been raised that it is UK and that is it, can't root for UL.

 

Plus I can not stand the act higher than mighty Pitino. Who else can commit adultery, pay for abortion, and still be regarded as a great guy in Louisville.

1) Sounds like you're casting the first stone at Pitino. Nobody likes what he did, but he's a basketball coach not a preist.

2)What do you mean by crumb? Like a morsel of food? I never really thought of him that way.

3)Tattoos happened to basketball culture. I'll concede Marra to you, but he hasn't even dressed for a game this year.

Hate is too strong a word. I'm a UK fan and don't care for anyone else. The Pitino/Cal angle has added to the tension. Add Peyton Siva to the mix and ..........................

I have no issue with Louisville, I can't stand their fans though.

I would not be a backer of Pitino if he was still at UK with all of his baggage. I could not wait to have BCG fired and I think MB should of been gone out the door with him. It makes me sick to think that Cal got MB a huge bonus the last couple of seasons. The guy blew it with the hiring of BCG and everyone knows that. Sad. Not a MB fan at all. Still hard for me to fathom that BCG never signed his contract at UK. That is unreal.

 

BCG was the only bad move Mitch has made since he got to UK. And he got rid of him super fast. We'll see how he handles the Joker situation, but other than that, what has Mitch done wrong?

 

Nearly every sport at UK has improved since Mitch arrived.

I used to back Louisville and Kentucky. I had a UL hat and a couple of t-shirts. However, that changed after they won the NCAA Title in 1980. The next few years all I heard from the few UL fans around where I lived was them bashing Kentucky. I never heard much from the rest of the UK fans negatively towards UL until about 1983-84. UK was and is No. 1 and UL was No. 2 for me. I always supported the Cards when they weren't playing Kentucky. I quit doing that in about 1983.

I use to hate Louisville, especially when Pitino swithced over simply because I thought they were gonna spank us every year, and I couldn't stand hearing it from their fans. I actually cheer for Louisville now when they play anyone other than Kentucky, but that may change should they win this weekend.

I like Louisville, just like UK a whole lot more. If Louisville wins this weekend I'll be disappointed but I'll be rooting for them come Monday night.

Being an NKY guy, I wouldn't say I truly dislike UofL. I'm more indifferent towards them than anything. Now OSU, IU and to a lesser extent UC that would be a little more different story.

 

I've got to say though, I've done my fair share a bantering with some UofL faithful and if they do somehow win this game there will be some UofL fans that I will not want to see for quite sometime...

I am ok with UL. Had a problem with the fans during their brief success in football. The "elite" talk was a little over the top. However, I believe the fanbase has come back to earth recently in that regard.

Because BGP had this poster that used to play drums for the Louisville band. Man, he was a tough one to take. :irked: :D:lol:

 

 

 

 

Seriously, I only dislike Louisville two times a year usually. Once during football season, and once during basketball season. I get to dislike them twice during basketball season this year, but like I stated earlier, if they beat Kentucky I'll be rooting for them on Monday night.

Could you imagine a UofL vs. OSU finals. That just sounds terrible to me. I just got a stomach ache thinking about that one.

I come at it from a different perspective than most. A transplant from Maryland who enrolled at Morehead in 1973. I had never seen anything like UK basketball culture - people seemed to be much more supportive of UK than their own (Morehead) school.

 

I found it amusing that it basically took government intervention to get UK and UofL to play basketball on a regular basis.

I loved it when Morehead beat UofL in last year's tourney. But to be fair, I would have loved it had they defeated UK.

 

I side with UK this time around because I'd really, really like to see Darius become the first person in history (that's what I keep hearing) to win KY Mr. Basketball, the Sweet 16 title as a senior and the NCAA title as a senior.
