Holiday Tournaments are in full swing. For a lot of teams it is the first time this year they will play back to back games, some teams may even have to play twice in the same day. It is hard to judge teams because of this. They may not be quite prepared to play with such turn around games so close. Regardless, UHA saw their first losses of the year and Madisonville had some scares. Only real change on this weeks ranking is Union County moving up a few spots. Here are the rankings:

1. University Heights Academy – Coach Grant Shouse

BGP#3

2018-19 record: 6-2

Week’s Record: 2-2

The Blazers didn’t have as good a run at the King of the Bluegrass tournament as they would have liked. They suffered their first loss of the season to BGP #7 Lexington Christian 63-51. It was a poor offensive showing for UHA. Tandy led with 19 points, but no one else saw double digit scoring. They rebounded to defeat BGP#5 LaRue County 68-65 and BGP #20 Louisville Male 67-65. The ended the tournament getting scorched by Evanston, Illinois 95-63.

The Blazers will move forward this weekend in the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic. They will open play against Frederick Douglass.

2. Madisonville North Hopkins – Coach Matt Beshear

2018-19 record: 7-4

Week’s Record: 3-2

Madisonville played a full schedule this past week. They survived a scare at Christian County needing Overtime to defeat the Colonels 69-64. They went on the split their games at the King of the Bluegrass Tournament losing to BGP #19 Collins 55-51, and Brentwood Academy out of Nashville 72-57. They defeated Fairdale 67-56 and BGP #7 Lexington Christian 50-35, showcasing a great defensive effort. Ksuan Casey made the King of the Bluegrass all-tournament team for the Maroons.

Madisonville will continue their Holiday Tournament schedule Dec 27 in Bowling Green at the Meijer Holiday Classic.

3. Hopkinsville – Coach Larry Miller

2018-19 record: 8-3

Week’s Record: 3-1

The Tigers look like they are improving every week. They played in the Owensboro Invitational Tournament winning their first three games against Owensboro, Monroe County, and Owensboro Catholic. They looked pretty good in all three games, really showcasing a defensive effort. They continued that great defense against John Hardin, but ultimately lost by one point 45-44.

This is not the Tiger teams of the past that scored 80+ points a game, they do not have the high powered offense they had in the past under Tim Haworth. Instead they play intense defense and try to get enough offense to win the game. Hopkinsville plays next at the Machens Great 8 Classic in Jefferson City, Missiouri.

4. Caldwell County – Coach Daniel Kukahiko

2018-19 record: 7-3

Week’s Record: 3-1

The Tigers played in the Limestone Bank Christmas Classic at Butler County this week. They lost the first game they played 77-64 to Logan County. They rebounded however to defeat Franklin Simpson 67-63, and Butler County 67-65. The Logan County game was the toughest opponent, and it was thought the game would be closer than it was. Caldwell seemed to struggle a little bit with teams in this tournament. Let’s hope they can get some confidence back as they host the West KY Hoops Classic.

5. Christian County – Coach Kerry Stovall

2018-19 record: 4-5

Week’s Record: 1-2

The Colonels have had a rough go of it the past few games dropping 3 of their last 4. This week they lost in overtime to Madisonville North-Hopkins. If they could have pulled that off, it would have been quite the upset. They also were defeated by First Love Christian Academy from Pennsylvania before getting back in the win column 69-50 versus Floyd Central. Christian County will play in the Poplar Bluff Showdown starting on Dec 27.

6. Webster County – Coach Jon Newton

2018-19 record: 8-3

Week’s Record: 2-1

The Trojans continue their sporadic up and down play. Webster came out and defeated Livingston Central 53-44, but then two days later lost to a struggling Franklin Simpson team, before putting a hurt on a one loss Logan County team. Not really sure what to make of this team right now. Webster will try to get things straight as they play at the Hilliard Lyons Holiday Hoop Classic in Danville. They are very capable of winning all 3 games they play (Danville, Metcalfe Co, Whitefield Academy), However the Danville game will be their biggest test.

7. Henderson County – Coach Tyler Smithhart

2018-19 record: 7-3

Week’s Record: 2-2

Henderson County started the year winning their first 5 games, they have now lost 3 of the last 5 as they play some tougher competition. They defeated Crittenden Co to start the week before heading to Bowling Green for the Warren East Holiday Hoops Classic. There they dropped the first two games to Bardstown 61-60 in a close one, and Marion County 74-59. They convincingly won the last game they played against Greenwood 82-46. Off to Allen County to play in the South Central Bank Halton Classic this week.

8. Lyon County – Coach Jeff Embrey

2018-19 record: 8-5

Week’s Record: 2-1

The Lyons were looking really good for a while, but teams from Region 1 really gave them a wake up call. They lost to Carlisle County before getting smacked by BPG#11 McCracken County 64-37. They did rebound nicely by defeating Butler County 62-57 and Fulton City 78-39. Up next for Lyon County is the Stewart County Christmas Classic in Tennessee.

9. Union County – Coach Shane Smith

2018-19 record: 4-3

Week’s Record: 1-0

Union played Hopkins County Central in their only game of the week. Kale Gaither scored 20 to lead to Braves to the 60-49 victory. Elex Dunford added 16 points in the win. They will travel to Pinckneyville, IL to faceoff in the Duster Thomas Hoops Classic.

10. Hopkins County Central – Coach Lee James

2018-19 record: 4-5

Week’s Record: 2-2

Hopkins County split their games this week defeating McLean County and Franklin-Simpson while losing to Union County and Logan County. Both the wins were close games. Blasin Moore had 29 and Tylan Mann had 27 in the win over McLean. While four different players scored in double digits in the Franklin-Simpson win. They will head to Marshall County to play in the Holiday Classic there.

11. Livingston Central – Coach Chris Green

14. Dawson Springs – Coach Chad Burgett

2018-19 record: 4-5

Week’s Record: 0-1

The Panthers lost to McLean County in the only game on the schedule this past week. They start play in the Williamstown Holiday Tournament on Dec 27.

15. Crittenden County – Coach Denis Hodge

2018-19 record: 4-7
