article 10th Region Week 1 Review

1. Campbell County

The Camels proved with 9 point win over GRC they are still the top dogs in the 10th Region. They lost the next day to Walnut Ridge, OH. Drew Wilson led the Camels in scoring I believe with 21 (stats not on KHSAA). Reid Jolly was in foul trouble early in the 1st half but still managed a double double.

2. George Rogers Clark

They lost to Campbell County, but they are still tough to beat. Jordan Graham only scored 4 points in this one, Brennan Canada scored 13. They started off the week with a blowout over Bath County.

3. Scott

Scott had led by 17 in the 2nd half, but a career high 53 point performance by Dontaie Allen brought the game within 4. But Scott closed the door and won 83-73. Chad Ohmer scored his 1,000th point as well. Scott also added a 78-55 win the next day over Montgomery County. Tempted to move them up to two.

4. Pendleton County

Dontaie Allen had a phenomenal scoring week. Averaging 43 points a game through the first slate of games. After a convincing win over Williamstown and loss to Scott, the Wildcats went down to the Hoopfest and came away with signature 50-45 comeback win over the Marshalls.

5. Harrison County

Harrison County split games this week, starting with a 76-59 win over Breathitt County, and 70-58 loss to Collins, where Spencer Free and Quenten Turley both scored their 1,000th point.

6. Bishop Brossart

The Mustangs split game this week. They had a convincing 77-38 win over Villa Madonna at home, and a loss against a top 9th Region team Newport 70-53.

7. Montgomery County

They started off the week with a tough 66-61 loss to Rowan County, where Myron Ralls scored 23 points. They followed that with a 78-55 loss across the region to Scott.

8. Robertson County

The Black Devils started out by beating the brakes off Augusta at home 79-41, where 4 Devils had double figure scoring. They had another win 66-45 over Fleming County. The Black Devils are looking tough.

9. Mason County

Mason County had a rough rough week, even though it was against tough opponents, things are not looking good early for the Royals. 68-33 loss to LexCath and a 68-43 loss to Simon Kenton. Turnovers, trouble scoring, and inexperience are the key themes Brian Kirk's Royals should improve on this week with tough games vs. Bourbon and Scott.

10. Paris

The Greyhounds had two tough losses to two tough opponents, Lexington Christian 64-48, and Holmes 65-61, where Jalen Bryars scored 25 points.

11. Bourbon County

The Colonels took a loss to West Jessamine 79-62, and a loss to Frederick Douglass 88-59.

12. Bracken County

The Polar Bears look much improved from last year already with 2 wins as opposed to last years 5, with a 77-53 win over Nicholas County and a 74-24 win over Villa Madonna.

13. Calvary Christian

They had a good win at Augusta 85-73, but took a loss to a good Grant County team 78-60. Mason Rusch averaging 26.5 points per game.

14. Augusta

A busy week for the Panthers, starting with a blowout loss to Robertson County, followed by an 11 point loss to Calvary. The turned the page and got a solid 20 point win over Nicholas, and tough 2 point loss to Greenup County.

15. Nicholas County

The Bluejackets took two 20 point losses to Bracken and Augusta, and things don't look better next week as they play Pendelton and Harrison in district seeding games.

16. Silver Grove

Spencer Macke averaging 34 points this week, with a 25 point win over Covington Latin, but losess to Gallatin County on the road to Walden.

17. Saint Patrick

3 losses for the Saints this week to Walden, Dayton, and Hillsboro, OH.

You are correct this early in the season. But, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and these old eyes saw a team with size, beef, speed and the ability to shoot. Smarts are just around the corner with this young, but experienced group. RC is going to disrupt a lot of the traditonal 10th Region powers. IMO

Alex Schalch from Robertson Co. also surpassed the 1000 pt plateau this week in a victory over Bracken Co. Alex is a junior.

I really like Robertson Co.

They have all the tools to compete with anyone and Coach Kelch is a great coach!!! These are my sleepers of the region. The Devils are for real!!

Sounds like they may be a Top 5.

I wish Robertson Co. All the luck this season. It is great to see small schools be able to compete with the larger schools. They will have a great year but before we put them up with the top of the region they must prove it against better competition on a weekly basis. Looking back to last year and this year they have only beaten one real good team and that was Paris in 18. They have the talent and coaching but you must prove it with quality wins. We are rooting for ya but go get some good wins.

Mason County struggling out of the gate.

He just did it Tuesday after the week review was completed. I was just letting people know.

Can Bracken contend for the 39th District? I wish the Championship was on Tuesday when Bracken and Mason plays. Because I’m afraid at the end of the season Mason County will have worked out all their problems, and Bracken is playing well right now.

I won’t be shocked if Bracken Co. beats them Tuesday. Impressed with how hard BC plays. Better than most will give them credit for.
