DevilMayCare
Quarterbacks Beau Buchanan, Bowling Green (9-3, lost in the Second Round) Season Complete Final Numbers: 176 of 295 for 2,050 yards and 25 TDs with 6 ints. Joey Cambron, Daviess County (6-5, lost in the First Round) Season Complete Final Numbers: 203 of 361 for 2,910 yards and 35 with 14 ints. Gavin Spurrier, South Warren (14-0, advanced to the 5A Finals) State Semi-Final: Spurrier was at the center of a big third quarter that helped the Spartans distance themselves from South Oldham following a 10-10 tie at the half. He connected on two of his three touchdown passes during a third frame that saw the Spartans outscore the Dragons 21-0 en route to a 31-10 victory. All together, Spurrier was 18 of 25 for 237 yards and three touchdown tosses. South Oldham's pass defense had only allowed about 65 yards per game entering this contest. Season to date: 159 of 224 for 2,257 yards and 36 TDs with 3 ints. Stock: UP South Oldham High School - Gavin Spurrier highlights - Hudl Braxton Ratliff, Ashland (11-2, lost in the Region Final) Season Complete Final Numbers: 125 of 200 for 2,047 yards and 21 TDs with 7 ints. ; 110 rushes for 809 yards and 7 TDs Chase Estep, Corbin (13-1, advanced to the 3A Finals) State Semi-Final: The numbers don't jump off the page, but the result was arguably the biggest attention grabber of semi-final weekend. Estep accounted for 145 yards (75 passing, 70 rushing) of total offense and two rushing touchdowns as Corbin shutout 3A favorite Boyle County, 21-0. The defense was the star of the show for the Hounds. Boyle's collection of offensive skill was unrivaled in 3A this year. Season to date: 163 of 247 for 2,847 yards with 38 TDs and 4 ints. ; 93 rushes for 508 yards and 10 TDs Stock: Cameron Jones, Frederick Douglass (11-1, lost in the Second Round) Season Complete Final Numbers: 145 of 199 for 2,714 yards and 31 TDs with 5 ints. Wiley Cain, Pulaski County (11-3, lost in the 5A Semi-Finals) State Semi-Final: It's been a great year for Cain, capping off a great career for a quarterback tasked with filling the shoes of Riley Hall. In his final game, CovCath proved to be a monster unlike any Cain had seen in a couple of years. The majority of his 249 yards and both of his touchdown passes came against CovCath backups. Final Numbers: 329 of 501 for 3,987 yards and 35 TDs with 9 ints. Stock: DOWN Will Warren, Owensboro (10-3, lost in the Region Final) Season Complete Final Numbers: 204 of 335 for 3,090 yards and 37 TDs with 11 ints. Running Backs Wandale Robinson, Western Hills (7-4, lost in the First Round) Season Complete Final Numbers: 206 carries for 1,973 yards and 30 TDs ; 31 catches for 725 yards and 11 TDs ; 2 TD passes ; 2 kick return TDs ; 119 tackles (12 TFL) ; 3 interceptions (1 pick-six) ; 6 forced fumbles (1 fumble recovery for a TD) Casey McGinness, Covington Catholic (14-0, advanced to the 5A Finals) State Semi-Final: A short night's work against Pulaski County means you won't see his typical numbers here. McGinness only got his hands on the ball eight times, but did score twice. His 70 rushing yards pushed him past 2k for the season. Season to date: 224 carries for 2,045 yards and 34 TDs ; 21 catches for 317 yards and 5 TDs Stock: Pulaski County High School - Casey McGinness highlights - Hudl Tre’ Bass, Franklin-Simpson (13-1, advanced to the 4A Finals) State Semi-Final: Workmanlike isn't necessarily an adjective that people would typically apply to Bass. Usually he's racing past opposing defenses for big yardage on relatively few carries (he was averaging just 10 a game entering the semis). His 27 carries against Taylor County were by far his career high. He's now knocking on the door of a 2,000 yard season entering the 4A title game. Season to date: 157 carries for 1,963 yards and 29 TDs Stock: UP Taylor County High - Tre' Bass highlights - Hudl Jayden Neace, Perry County Central (8-3, lost in the First Round) Season Complete Final Numbers: 277 carries for 2,309 yards and 34 TDs Kent Trey Matthews, Mayfield (14-0, advanced to the 2A Finals) State Semi-Final: Matthews logged his fourth straight 100 yard game in the playoffs with 156 and a touchdown versus Walton-Verona. He's accounted for 539 yards and nine touchdowns through Mayfield's first four postseason games despite not seeing much action in the second half. Season to date: 210 carries for 1,872 yards and 29 TDs Stock: UP Landan Swartz, Bath County (7-4, lost in the First Round) Season Complete Final Numbers: 253 rushes for 2,069 yards and 25 TDs ; 3 kick return TDs ; 50 tackles ; 5 ints. Joe Jackson, Johnson Central (13-1, advanced to the 4A Finals) State Semi-Final: Jackson continued his playoff roll versus Knox Central. His 179 yards and two touchdowns against the Panthers gives him 1,601 yards and 26 touchdowns over his last nine playoff games. The 4A championship game versus Franklin-Simpson should feature the best running back duel among all the final games. Jackson and Bass have combined for over 4,000 yards and 60 touchdowns this season. Season to date: 199 rushes for 2,203 yards and 32 TDs ; 11 catches for 226 yards and 3 TDs Stock: UP Dalton Cook, Lynn Camp (10-2, lost in the Second Round) Season Complete Final Numbers: 173 carries for 2,495 yards and 29 TDs Demarco Fishback, Frederick Douglass (11-1, lost in the Second Round) Season Complete Final Numbers: 137 rushes for 1,296 yards and 22 TDs ; 19 catches for 253 yards and 4 TDs Wide Receivers Demontae Crumes, Butler (8-4, lost in the Second Round) Season Complete Final Numbers: 42 catches for 877 yards and 14 TDs Marquel Tinsley, Daviess County (6-5, lost in the First Round) Season Complete Final Numbers: 70 receptions for 1,307 yards and 17 TDs Linemen Bryan Hudson, Scott County (11-3, advanced to the 6A Finals) State Semi-Final: The Cardinals failed to reach 200 yards rushing for the second time this season, but that was largely due to the success they had through the air. Cade McKee was 4 of 5 for 180 yards and two touchdowns. Hudson logged six tackles, including 3 TFL as Scott County’s defense only allowed 135 yards of offense to Madison Central. Season to date: Scott County averages a 6A best 309 rushing yards per game ; 74 tackles (28 TFL) ; 8 sacks Stock: UP Madison Central High School - Bryan Hudson highlights - Hudl Jacob Lacey, South Warren (14-0, advanced to the 5A Finals) State Semi-Final: SW’s offense took a little while to get going, but the defense was on point again, limiting South Oldham to just a third of its usual rushing output. Lacey finished with six tackles (2 TFL), including a sack. Season to date: 74 tackles (33 TFL) ; 14 sacks ; 2 forced fumbles Stock: UP Tanner Bowles, Glasgow (11-2, lost in the Region Finals) Season Complete Final Numbers: The Scotties averaged 297 ypg rushing and 385 ypg of total offense. They scored 508 points on the year, or 39 ppg. JJ Weaver, Moore (11-2, lost in the Region Final) Season Complete Final Numbers: 70 tackles ; 10 sacks ; 3 ints. (one pick-six) ; 6 catches for 102 yards and 3 TDs Athletes Milton Wright, Christian Academy of Louisville (14-0, advanced to the 2A Finals) State Semi-Final: Wright would have been hard pressed to top his performance from two games ago versus DeSales. So, no matter what he did against Somerset would almost certainly be considered a step down. He only handled the ball three times on offense, but managed 75 yards and a rushing touchdown. Defensively, he had his busiest night since very early in the season, totalling seven tackles and an interception. Season to date: 66 catches for 997 yards and 12 TDs ; 29 rushes for 400 yards and 7 TDs ; 3 kick return TDs ; 41 tackles (4.5 TFL) ; 3 ints. (1 pick-six) Stock : Somerset High School - Milton Wright highlights - Hudl Logan Castleman, Beechwood (11-2, advanced to the 1A Finals) State Semi-Final: Throughout his career in Fort Mitchell, Castleman has typically done a little of this, a little of that. No matter how big or small the task, he did whatever his team required of him. We've now reached the point of the season, and his career, where much is being placed on his shoulders. Starting with the regular season capper versus NewCath, Castleman has taken his game to a whole other level. Over his last four games, he's amassed 810 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns, including 509 yards and 10 scores in the past two weeks alone. Right now, no one's stock is up more than his. Look for him to leave it all on the field this weekend versus Pikeville. Season to date: 185 carries for 1,593 yards and 28 TDs ; 13 catches for 110 yards and 3 TDs ; 4 ints. (2 returned for TDs) Stock: UP Drew Sawyers, Southwestern (10-3, lost in the Region Final) Season Complete Final Numbers: 60 of 103 for 1,124 yards and 8 TDs ; 122 rushes for 1,227 and 13 TDs ; 2 interceptions (1 pick-six) ; 4 kick return TDs
The Double Deuce
I'm not sure who is going to win the 2nd Flight award (golf joke, sorry), but the real hardware already has Wandale Robinson's name on it.
