6A Notebook 10/2: Two unbeatens remain

 

#1 Trinity and #7 Simon Kenton are the only two undefeated in the Commonwealth’s largest football class. In 6A Poll threads for ranked teams last week, the BluegrassPreps voters were a perfect 5 for 5. The choices were #1 Trinity over #2 St. Xavier; #4 Male over #5 Pleasure Ridge Park; #8 Butler over #9 Manual; Cathedral (IN) over #7 Ryle; Campbell County over Mt. Healthy (OH). This brings the season total to 41 of 46 for 89.1%.

 

The feature games this week include #4 St. Xavier at #9 Manual; #3 Scott County vs. #10 Douglass; #5 Pleasure Ridge Park at #6 Butler in a rare Thursday night matchup (St. James Art Fair begins Friday). Please see game threads with polls for more details.

 

In other games involving BluegrassPreps 6A top ten teams:

 

#1 Trinity hosts the Eastern Eagles. Trinity looks to raise their all-time series record to 38-2. These two first met in 1977. The Eagles defeated the Shamrocks in 1993 20-4 and 1994 21-14 in overtime. Both wins by the Eagles were in regular season games. Trinity is 7-0 on the year and has a 22 game winning streak. The Eagles are 3-3.

 

#4 Male hosts Bryan Station. The Bulldogs are 6-1 and the Defenders are winless in 6 games. These two programs have not met for more than 20 years.

 

#6 Ryle plays at Cooper. The Raiders are 4-2 and are coming off a tough 23-17 loss on ESPNU to Cathedral (IN). Cooper in winless in 6 games this season. This is a key district five contest with post-season seeding implications. The Jaguars fell to Ryle 49-12 in last season’s game.

 

#7 Simon Kenton visits Boone County. The Pioneers have a sparkling 7-0 record after their win over 1A #1 Beechwood last week. Boone County is 1-5 and enters the week on a three game losing streak. This is a district 6 game. The Pioneers won last year’s contest 52-0.

 

Central Hardin (4-3), Meade County (4-3), North Hardin (2-5) and fifth place from district 1 will play the top 4 in district 1 in the first three rounds of the playoffs.

 

District 4 (Trinity, Eastern, Ballard, Jeffersontown, and Seneca plays district 6 (Simon Kenton, Campbell County, Boone County with fifth place from District 4 acting as fourth place in District 6.

 

District 5 ( Male, St. Xavier, Manual, Pleasure Ridge Park, and Butler) plays District 3 (Ryle, Cooper , and Conner with the fifth place team from District 5 acting as fourth place team in District 6.

 

District 1 plays district 2 and district 7 plays district 8.
