Inside the 16th Region - Week 8

1.Elliott County (14-1):

The Lions continue to impress people. Having won 8 straight including winning the 16th Region All “A” Classic. Their opening first round game in the KHSAA All “A” State Tournament with Paris should be nothing less than a barn burner Thursday night.

 

2.Boyd County (15-4):

Boyd County has won 5 straight and 6 of their last 7 games. During that stretch, the Lions have outscored their opponents 558 to 447, that’s an average of 80 points a game and only giving up 64 points a game during that stretch, that’s filling up the basket in a hurry.

 

3.Greenup County (13-6):

After having won 6 straight, Greenup County has lost 3 of their last 5 games including a 86-73 deficit to East Carter, the #6 team in the region.

 

4.Rowan County (14-5):

Since starting the season 2-3 in their first 5 games, the Rowan County Vikings have gone 12-2. 5 of those 12 wins have been by double digits. This week doesn’t get any easier for the Vikings as they host #5 West Carter tomorrow night and Mason County on Friday.

 

5.West Carter (12-5):

The Comets have been playing good ball all season, In fact, 2 of their 5 losses this season were by double digits, the rest were by single digits. West Carter will host both Rowan County and Raceland tomorrow night and Tuesday night and travel to East Carter on Friday.

 

6.East Carter (10-10):

The Raiders are 6-6 against region opponents One of those wins came against #3 Greenup County. East Carter is starting to play some good ball after having a rough road throughout the season. Can they keep putting up W’s?

 

7.Bath County (9-10):

After losing 3 straight and 5 of their previous 6 games, the Wildcats have won 3 of their last 4 games. However, the Wildcats still continue to struggle putting multiple wins together.

 

8.Ashland (7-13):

The Tomcats have gotten things turned around and headed in the right direction, after going 3-12 for the biggest part of the season, Ashland has now gone 4-1 in their last 5 games. East Carter and Fairview await them this week, however.

 

9.Russell (9-13):

The Red Devils have now lost 4 straight and 5 of their last 6 games, actually, since going 5-3 in their first 8 games, Russell has gone 4-10 since.

 

10.Morgan County (8-12):

Morgan County is starting to play better ball after that horrendous 1-7 start to the season, the question is, can they keep this momentum up?

 

11.Fleming County (5-17):

The Panthers finally picked up a big win over Menifee County to snap that 7 game losing streak.

 

12.Lewis County (4-15):

3 of the Lions 4 wins have came against region opponents but 8 of their 15 losses have also came against region opponents..

 

13.Fairview (6-11):

Fairview has now won 2 of their last 3 games with the lone loss coming to Morgan County 54-53.

 

14.Raceland (5-13):

Raceland is playing better ball then what they had been when the season started but they still continue to struggle putting wins together. 3 of their 12 losses were by just a few points….that’s a lot of points that the Rams have gave up.

 

15.Rose Hill (9-15):

The Royals have now lost 9 straight games since their last win.

 

16.Menifee County (3-14):

The Wildcats have lost 7 straight games since their last win. The Wildcats have only won 2 games at home this season.
