Johnson Central's use of ineligible player
not so true.... If something is reported annonymously and the law looks into it and finds suspected wrong doing then they can open and investigation. There's many of cases, millions that go prosecuted that don't have the accuser brought in front of a jury. As far as this goes, I do not understand how they can rule the player to practice but not play in a game. It does seem like a error somewhere. I had a son who transferred and the school he went to had to request from the school he left to be released and the AD at that school had to send paperwork to KHSAA. In this case, JC asked for the release, and MC release and sing off on it and send it to KHSAA. Then they release and let JC know the outcome. Good luck to all on this one. But it is always mentioned in our state clinics in which all head coaches and officials must attend and this transfer thing always is a topic. It does not concern officials at all but this is a administrative thing for the schools.

Best Game to visit 11/2/07
A game that would be great to call.... Are the officials local or brought in for this game?

Hazard 17 Lynn Camp 13
If a player has indeed kicked or attempted to strike, he can be ejected by any of the five officials on the field. No, it cannot be re-instated by any other official. If an ejected player does report after being ejected, it is another foul for illegal participation and can be justified as unsporting to the head coach and disqualified himself.

Rules Question Help Needed
no it does not but the question did not mention anything about momentum playing a factor, therefore fumbling would make a huge difference, well, 2 points worth.... I only brought out the momentum rule to educate non-officials of the rule. Check the Reddings book, the underline part is in the more expanded rules book that NFHS does not have but does endorse the Reddings Book.

Rules Question Help Needed
The rule does not mention anything about 12 men in the huddle.... yes, they do have more than 11 on the field when they break is Illegal sub. Understand, when a sub comes into the game, their replacement must leave immediately! At times, during hurry up stuff, this tends to happen but the replaced player does leave immediately. #2 the momentum rule could come into effect. It is neither a safety or a touchback if a defensive player is inside his five yard line when he intercepts a forward pass, or catches or recovers a kick, backwards pass or fumbleand his MOMENTUM carries him into the endzone where he is downed or loses possession of the ball. In this scenario I mentioned, the ball would come out to the 2 yard line if your play had momentum. Now, if it did not have momentum and B took the ball into the EZ, in the scenario you mentioned, the officials got it right. If B took the ball into the EZ on his own and fumbles and B recovers in the EZ, safety.

Rules Question Help Needed
This is the rule that they get from the great commentators on television.... Comment on the inelgible number, your example, if 70 caught the forward pass downfield, it is now illegal touching, 5 yard penalty from previous spot and a loss of down..... This rule was changed a couple of years ago, use to be OPI, 15 and a LOD..... sorry for all the abbrev, if I lose you, just ask what the heck is that.... good questions and please keep asking, we learn as well....

Actually, if A is pushed out by B and at the moment the official judges A's forward progress has been stopped, the clock could continue to run. By rule, this is the way it should be but most officials kill the clock.... If A is pushed forward and goes OOB, the clock will be stopped. It's all about the judgement of the official on that particular play.

offside and MT has answered the question.... The one thing I do see is that officials will do this in first half but in the second, they tend to stop it depending on the situation. I don't think is good, it needs to be consistent throughout the game, regardless of the score or situation. Good officials manage the clock....

Rules Question Help Needed
blocking below the waist.... As mentioned, the only time you can block legally below the waist is while the ball is in the free blocking zone, basically at the snap. The only players that can do it must be on the line at the snap! Yes, if you have a LB seaking up into a slot, he can be blocked below the waist. Also, RB's cannot block below the waist of a defender coming to sack the qb. Neither can a defensive man hit a pulling guard to attempt to break the play up.

Another rules question - TD or spot of foul infraction?
Not sure of the rule at that time, but now it IS a touchdown regardless if there was a chance because of not knowing that the runner could have avoided the tackle. Oh yea, the non-player, gets an early shower, 15 yard penalty which by rule now can be on the extra point or taken on the kick off since the foul was a live ball foul.

Rules Question Help Needed
you are correct about officials at times have different interps of the rules and we are trying to be more consistent. As far as this thread, the rule in not intended to penalize a team unless there is intent to deceive. The play it is trying to penalize is the so called "hide out" play. For example, if A has the ball with only 10 players, the sub can walk onto the field prior to the snap and position himself within the ticks and be elgible to participate. The rule is to catch A when the player steps onto the filed, near sideline and goes down the field to participate. Another example similar to the thread, A has 11 on the field and send in two subs but three leave the huddle. One of the three leaving remains on the field near the sideline and B does not react to the player. He then proceeds at the snap and catches a pass, that is deception and a 15 yarder... Again, it really relies on the rules interp and the intent of the play. Does the player come off the field in the manner that he is questioning the coach why he is being replaced but then participates.... ? Foul Does he come out looking back to the huddle and lines up as if he is going to be participating, no foul.... It's about deception.....

Rules Question Help Needed
Substitutions: 11 players on offense. A sub comes onto the field, the player being replaced must leave the field immediately. If not, the WH or U will flag for illegal sub. If the ball is snapped and more than 11 O is on the field, you will have a 15 yard penalty for illegal participation. The play to begin the thread is legal, 10 on the field, sub comes in and player goes near the sideline, is it deception? If an official deems that in their judgement you can use rule 10 but is highly unlikely to do so. As long as no deception is noted, this play is legal. Ask some official in your area for their old rules books. I gave mine away but always keep the previous year to refer back. Hey, better, join the KHSAA and officiate.....

Legal or Illegal Block???
That is a foul, you are correct......... Does it get missed? Yes, why, a lot of officials continue to concentrate on the RB, not the entire picture of blockers.... and it does get missed. That has been a point of emphasis this year.

Louisville Central vs. Johnson Central Predictions
Thanks, but one thing you must understand is that most fans, know rules from college and NFL. Those rules differ on Friday night. I cannot tell you how many times I have been cursed because I flag pass int when the ball is well over the receivers' head or when we flag qb for grounding when he is outside the pocket, wrong level..... These are the bad calls that most folks mention. Understand, officiating is all about philosophy and understanding the game while using judgement to make the RIGHT call. kypride Somerset football I'm going to agree with you on this. When a good team from 1 region travels to play a good team in another region the officiating has always been lopsided in my 19 years of watching high school football. It seems that officials let thier regional pride get in the way. IMO. It however is not just an EKY thing. When does a team go into NKY and beat a good team? Or WKY or LOU. I don't see this, not in my games or with the crew that I call with. We work some big games during reg and in post season, I just don't see it. I would like to see officials to be put into four regions and work that entire region. That means if I live in the 13th, I could possibly work in the 15th on some games.... I would really like to see this happen and I hear it maybe happening as soon as next year.

16th. Region Football Officials...What's going on?
The one thing that assignors fall prey to is the "buddy" system. When you try and not work within that framework, you tend to pee people off..... I have seen this time in and time out within the officiating ranks, it happens, deal with it and go on.... is typically how I deal with it..... It's like play-off games and working a state game, most times it is by seniority and not the best official. You would think the KHSAA would want the best working the most important game, I am sure the teams would. The two new classes will give more officials the chance to work a state game. Any chances that the last two rounds will ever be a 7 man crew?

no way, cannot be in the mountains, W of 75! Anyway, I am still trying to figure out this comment.....? Is it the officiating? I have called with folks across the state and I do not see much difference with officiating.... Now as far as the numbers game, regions do differ....

16th. Region Football Officials...What's going on?
As an official, working new folks in is great, on a game that's going to have an obvious winner. We know those blow out games without mentioning any teams. Most know the outcome. That is the game the younger officials are going to get. Working a first year guy or two in on a game that is the so called, big game, not so sure that is a good idea. However, as an official, when I get my schedule, I say very little and work my games. If I get pulled off a game and placed on another, fine. There's a shortage of officials across the state, across the nation and at all levels. Officiating can be tough if you are the official who wants to move into other levels and for the official who is not, that is fine. Most of us work extremely hard to make it better and still get all the crap from fans on forums such as this. At games, I don't really hear them as I am concentrating on my job! Split crews? If it works great, leave it up to your assignor and ratings and leave it at that.... As far as the 16th, they have just as good officials than any other region. I hope if they have problems inside that they can fix it and move on.
