10th Region Class A Championship
I saw that on the Bracken County scoreboard but it didn't have the "10th Region All A Tourney" out to the side so I wondered if it was, coincidentally, a regular season game that was already on the schedule. So tonight's game is the Championship game?

Lady Saints Softball
The Lady Saints team is coming together nicely. They are several players that are new to softball, but are improving everyday. Two of the four games that they won Saturday were won on comebacks on the other team in the last two innnings. Good job Lady Saints. Good Luck on the rest of your season. :thumb:

Lady Saints Softball
Lady Saints departed for Silver Grove early on Saturday to play two double headers and came home with a 4-0 record for the day improving their season record to 7-1. The Lady Saints started the day against Silver Grove, winning the first game 11-4 and coming back in the second to win 13-10. After a short break the Saints took on Holy Cross and won the first game 6-2 and again came back in the second game to win 11-8. With only 13 girls on the team, one of which is on the DL, I have to say they stood up to the challenge pretty well. The injured player is also a pitcher, so they played the four games (28 innings) with a very limited pitching staff. Good Job Lady Saints!!!!

St. Patrick 3 Mason County 2
Why is it very young. Mason County is a school system with probably 400 girls in the high school. How come there is so little interest in sports that the girls programs have to bring up middle school students to have a team. Are the younger players that talented? Do the coaches try to encourage high school girls to play before going down to younger grades to get players?

St. Patrick 3 Mason County 2
Saint Patrick wins their opener against Mason Co. 3-2. SPS JV also victorious with a 9-5 win (correct me if I am wrong on that score). St. Patrick has a very small team with several new players with very little or no fast pitch experience (3 of the 13 that I know for sure). Kudos to coach Crawford and girls on the win.

Scott 71 St. Patrick 63
That seems to happen on a lot of teams. Funny thing is, I saw this with St. Pat's former coach on many occasions, so this is nothing new. Matter of fact, I saw this quite often with the former coach giving the "green light" to players with no "repercussions" while equally (or more) talented players sat the bench the whole game. So If that's the point you were trying to make with your initial comment, I have to say, I still don't get the point. And as far as the coaching comment being questioned, I think it could be a valid point since a team needs a good coach to show them how to execute their abilities. I believe the Lady Saints wouldn't be what they are if they had been coached well coming up through grade school. So it isn't just the players, the coach does factor into the equation. I just don't think you can compare past and present at St. Patrick, especially on this thread. Apples and oranges, if you ask me. Besides, I think the subject was covered extensively in a previous thread about two years ago.

I wish you would elaborate on that comment. What do you think the outcome would have been?

Scott 71 St. Patrick 63
I'm not blaming the officials. St. Patrick was not having their best game and Scott apparantly was having their best game of the season, according to chuckhayes. With that said, it is hard for a team to play defense when they are going to get fouls called for every little bump or touch. And there were bumps and touches on both ends of the court, (on a couple of occasions, more tnhan a bump or touchnot called) but it seemed the whistles only worked on one end. Could be it wasn't the refs fault. It may have been some unexplained natural phenomenon (possibly something associated with global warming) that kept the whistles from working near the St. Patrick goal.:D:D

Scott 71 St. Patrick 63
Seemed a little one-sided when Scott got their first foul of the second half with only 3:31 left in the fourth and the Saints already had 9 or 10 team fouls at that point. The refs got a standing ovation from Saints fans when they finally blew the whistle for that foul. How many times do you see the refs get that much love? LOL :taz::lol::taz::lol::taz:

10th Region Draws
Does anyone know why?

St. Patrick 72 Mason County 39
Are referring to the claim that Buser ran scores up or was never voted coach of the year in the 10th? Please explain.. thanks!

I wasn't referring to coach O'Hearn. never mentioned his name. I was just pointing out that in the past (not necessarily the recent past)padding the stats has happened on the boys teams as well as the girls.

You obviously don't know her well. If you have followed the Lady Saints this season, you will know that they have palyed several games where they had a 20 point lead and by the end of the game they were scrambling to pull out a win. Coach douglas has learned not to take a lead for granted, especially in a game where emotions play a big part. There is a lot off the court with these girls, friendships, rivalries. A couple of the Lady Royals used to attend St. Patrick so there are former classmates on the court, as well. If you were at last nights game, you would have noticed that in the second half a 30 point lead was cut to a 20 point lead at one point. I'm sure Coach Douglas knew that anything could happen in this game, so she wasn't going to take any risks. A 30+ loss to Mason County shouldn't be such a big deal, after all they have been dishing them out (boys and girls) to other teams for years. I guess some people see it differently when they are on the receiving end. The bright point for the Lady Royals is that they all return next year, so this wasn't the end of anyone's high school career on their team. They all get another chance next year. And the Saints Seniors get to advance to the district finals and the region tournament to extend theirs. Good Luck Lady Saints!- Mason County @ Montgomery County

I am glad she got to play most of the season. As bad as it is to be out at tournament time, I think it would be far worse for this happen early in the season and have to miss the majority or all of the season. Not that there is any bright side to her injury. Get well soon, Kelsey!!!!!:jump::thumb::jump:- Kelsey Carmack
I heard this last night from a pretty good source. I hated to hear it.- St. Patrick 34 Campbell County 22 (Frosh)
The freshmen at St. Patrick have been playing two games back to back for the last few of years due to playing up with the grade above them that currently has only one girl that plays ball and in Jr. High only had two girls. With that said, these girls have the conditioning to play two games from start to finish (which several girls did in Jr. High) and not get wore out. In high school it is different because even though numbers are low..... there is a bigger pool of players to put in the game, so the girls get a break now and then so they are playing less now than they were the last couple of years. At St. Pat this year what you see on the varsity bench is all the girls in the high school that want to play ball. I think there are 13 total. There are eigth graders that play JV and Freshmen but in all fairness the current freshmen class has played freshmen all season and they wanted a chance at the title and to not have them play on the freshmen team their freshmen year would not have been an option for these girls. Plus they have a playing up rule at SPS and if you took the freshmen who play JV and Varsity off the freshmen team that would leave only five eigth graders on the team and they wouldn't have enough to have a team.- St. Patrick 34 Campbell County 22 (Frosh)
Four of St. Patrick's Freshmen start JV and the remainder of the freshmen team (three freshmen and five 8th graders) all play on the JV team. All seven of the freshmen at St. Patrick are on the Varsity team as well. Small school....resources are spread thin. The good thing is they are very well conditioned and don't tire easy. They are used to having to play one game and then turn around and play another. The St Pat freshmen girls had 12 games from Thurday night through Monday night (6 freshmen, 3 JV and 3 varsity games).- St. Patrick 64 Bishop Brossart 53
Lady Saints have a good night winning all three contests, varsity, JV and Frosh! - Saint Patrick 81 Bracken County 71 (2 OT)
