#22 (One of the Payne twins) did a great job on Menke. She had 8 at the half, and only 2 in the second quarter, when St. Pat extended their lead. She did score around 20 or so, but most of those came late in the second half when the game was out of reach.

I think she was returning the favor to Mason County. You know that Mason County has delivered it's share of beatings to St. Pat over the last 5 years. I'm not saying it's right, but I think she was just returning the favor.

Mason Co will remember this I hope, and use this blowout as motivation next year. Should be a good matchup next year Mason Co has everyone back and the Lady Saints will be good next year too.

Many times coaches, especially with teams that may not have experience in the post season, will continue to work on things during blowouts. Don't know that this is the case, but she has the right to play whoever she wants for as long as she wants to prepare for the next tourney game. People get caught up in the score, and many times there is more to it than just being considered a poor sport by beating someone soundly. I was never a fan of that "clearing the bench" argument when it comes to the post season. Lots of coaches stick to their rotation patterns and the experience they gain in game situations is much more valuable than any thing that can be simulated in practice.

You obviously don't know her well. If you have followed the Lady Saints this season, you will know that they have palyed several games where they had a 20 point lead and by the end of the game they were scrambling to pull out a win. Coach douglas has learned not to take a lead for granted, especially in a game where emotions play a big part. There is a lot off the court with these girls, friendships, rivalries. A couple of the Lady Royals used to attend St. Patrick so there are former classmates on the court, as well. If you were at last nights game, you would have noticed that in the second half a 30 point lead was cut to a 20 point lead at one point. I'm sure Coach Douglas knew that anything could happen in this game, so she wasn't going to take any risks.

 

 

A 30+ loss to Mason County shouldn't be such a big deal, after all they have been dishing them out (boys and girls) to other teams for years. I guess some people see it differently when they are on the receiving end. :cry:

 

The bright point for the Lady Royals is that they all return next year, so this wasn't the end of anyone's high school career on their team. They all get another chance next year. And the Saints Seniors get to advance to the district finals and the region tournament to extend theirs.

In terms of Coach Douglas coaching, I would tend to agree with IMO. Also, if you look at the stats, you see where the bench had 26+ points last night and I believe with a 8 to 9 man rotation and this team has lost some big leads during this season, so if there was a time to leave a team in and talk about maintaining intensity and not laying back, this game hopefully was a lesson for that

Megan Reese tore her ACL the first time when playing against Pendleton County, and they were up by 50+ points late in the second half, and the starters were in, including her. Then she got hurt, and there was no excuse for it.

First, I know Coach Douglas well enough to feel justified in my statement. Secondly, if Coach Buser were still around or if it was Coach O'Hearn I would say go after it. I have never been, nor ever will be a Mason County fan. However, I believe that Coach Butcher should be given a fair opportunity to change Mason's reputation in matters of kicking someone when they are already down. Or beating the dead horse. LOL!!
