First, I know Coach Douglas well enough to feel justified in my statement. Secondly, if Coach Buser were still around or if it was Coach O'Hearn I would say go after it. I have never been, nor ever will be a Mason County fan. However, I believe that Coach Butcher should be given a fair opportunity to change Mason's reputation in matters of kicking someone when they are already down. Or beating the dead horse. LOL!! Sorry, I really wanted to use the new Smilies.

I think Butcher will change Mason's reputation for running up the score, but it's still too fresh on people's minds, being his first year. He seems like a great coach, and Mason hasn't won big this year except when they played Augusta, and he did a great job of giving his bench their time to shine. Butcher will turn their program around.

If you follow Mason County, then you will know that statement is correct. Megan Reese tore her ACL the first time when playing against Pendleton County, and they were up by 50+ points late in the second half, and the starters were in, including her. Then she got hurt, and there was no excuse for it.

That's just one example of my statement, there are many others.

I'm not going to get into this because I know it wasn't this way but the bottom line was the Lady Saints were clearly the better team this year. Hope they can knock off Bracken Co for the district championship.

Well I'm not a Mason or St.Pat fan and if it makes you all feel better to try and justify not playing kids that may never have the chance to play in a district game again, so be it. Its funny Mason cleared its bench at the 3 minute or better mark.

I didn't know the district was over yet. Maybe it is for you.:isurrender:

I can't believe I am reading these comments about Coach Douglas. How when the tables are turned the other coach is the bad guy. Mason lost and by a big margin. Quit crying.

It is obvious you dont know Coach Douglas as well as you think you do. I do know her very well and she is one of the top coaches in the region or state. Her defensive coaching is second to none. She played eight different players in the first half and all of them scored. I remember that the jv game at Mason and I dont think putting in the JV would have made much of a difference since they are very talented as well.

And for all those with short memories here are a few scores from the past two season of some local games

07-08

Mason 86 Ripley 44

Mason 86 Pendleton 57

Mason 85 Bracken 49 (anyone from Bracken remember any mercy in this one)

Mason 75 Augusta 37

06-07

Mason 80 Ripley 49

Mason 84 Bracken 43

Mason 77 St Pat 29 hummmmmm I guess this is not running up the score.:idunno:

I am sure Coach Butcher is a great guy and will turn the program around but the memories are way to fresh and unfortunately Coach Butcher is catching the fallout.

I am not a ST. Patrick fan but how is it a big deal when Mason loses by 30 points. I think some people need to get over it and join the crowd.

I do know her very well. Running up the score on weak opponents does not change how well you teach basketball. Coach Douglas has some great players and they play really sound defensively. My comments have to do with what I call sportsmanship, not coaching skills.

It was disappointing to see coach Douglas not clear the bench until 1:01 mark and up 31.

I am a Mason fan all the way,But im sure this was just a returned favor from the last 3 years,Where this group of young Lady Royals could have been learning and playing late in some of those 30+ point blowouts the big 3 stayed in till the end and paded those stats.

You obviously don't know her well. If you have followed the Lady Saints this season, you will know that they have palyed several games where they had a 20 point lead and by the end of the game they were scrambling to pull out a win. Coach douglas has learned not to take a lead for granted, especially in a game where emotions play a big part. There is a lot off the court with these girls, friendships, rivalries. A couple of the Lady Royals used to attend St. Patrick so there are former classmates on the court, as well. If you were at last nights game, you would have noticed that in the second half a 30 point lead was cut to a 20 point lead at one point. I'm sure Coach Douglas knew that anything could happen in this game, so she wasn't going to take any risks.

A 30+ loss to Mason County shouldn't be such a big deal, after all they have been dishing them out (boys and girls) to other teams for years. I guess some people see it differently when they are on the receiving end.

The bright point for the Lady Royals is that they all return next year, so this wasn't the end of anyone's high school career on their team. They all get another chance next year. And the Saints Seniors get to advance to the district finals and the region tournament to extend theirs.

Good Luck Lady Saints!

I would disagree here Coach O'hearn don't run up the score,He plays his bench a whole to keep the score at bay a lot!

Congrats to the Lady Saints on the win,Look for these Young Lady Royals to be back in the thick of it next year.

Well Said.

Thank You!!!!!!!!!!

Funny the two people on this thread who have the biggest problem with a thirty point win over Mason seem to connected to Bracken County and Deming........not Mason.

I wasn't referring to coach O'Hearn. never mentioned his name. I was just pointing out that in the past (not necessarily the recent past)padding the stats has happened on the boys teams as well as the girls.

Absolutely without a doubt Coach Buser ran the score up on people, leaving her starters into press till late in the game. Did it over and over and over.

I could be wrong but I do not think the 10th region coaches ever voted her coach of the year and I believe you could trace it to this.
