  1. I say let Montgomery host it and wish them well. Give them a chance. Wait and see what happens. Then start this thread over in March. When Plato started this thread it was with an appeal to Mason Co. to be good sports and help advise Montgomery on how to make this years tournament a success. After all, no other school administration in the region has had the experience of hosting the tournament because Mason Co. has had the exclusive on that for years. One Ledger Ind reader accused the voting schools of being greedy, choosing money and showing off their new school over comfort and seating capacity. Comfort for who.....the Mason County fans who will have to drive to Mont. Co. for the game. I'd say the voting schools will be pretty comfortable with the shorter drive... and Mont. Co. voted for comfort with the home court advantage.
  2. Let me rephrase....basketball is not meant to be a contact sport. I know that it can't help but be when there are ten players running up and down a court. Any contact in basketball can be called a foul, whether it is a push while blocking out, a reach in foul trying to steal the ball, a pick or a screen where a player uses their body to push or just runs into the opposing player. Any contact is considered "illegal", and can be called a foul. Yes, I too hate it when refs call every little touch or hand check, but I don't think that is what LadiesBBallCoach was referring to when she started this thread. I think she was referring to the more blatant fouls that are not the result of accidental contact on the floor. I, for one, thought she was talking about the intentional pushing holding and shoving that goes on in some games. I must have misunderstood. By all means ...let those kids go out and slug each other....let 'em play!
  3. Parents can't enjoy a game if they are holding their breath and hoping their child doesn't end up in the hospital with an injury. Basketball should not be this physical. It is not supposed to be a contact sport. Some coaches want to teach the game of basketball, but they also have to teach their players to be physical, because if they don't they will get run over by teams that don't want to play basketball, but want to play what looks like football. I saw a takedown at a game once that would have been illegal in football, no call!. I would like to see the refs take control of the game, and if they do it early in the game, and often the players will realize they need to play clean and the rest of the game should be enjoyable as a result. As for the arguement that it prepares them for college play, well college ball shouldn't be as physical as it is, either. So clean it up now and they will play better ball at the college level.
  4. hoops gal, I had to LOL when I read your post....Sparks must not have kids or he would know that it is a seventh grader's nature to look at you wrong. Also, can you tell me where Joe Billman is from? I am not sure if I know who you are talking about?
  5. Harrison County squeaks by Mason County tonight with a one point win. Close one.
  6. I am glad to see that scores and records are being posted, which, I think was the intention of this thread. Things got off topic there for a while.
  7. Anyone have a final score from this one?
  8. I have to give props to Lady Saint, Cora Chamberlain. She had an excellent game!
  9. St. Pat was the winner........can't tell you the score, though.
  10. Ooohhh! Thanks for the info, bigblue!
  11. I quit listening in the third. Why did Anderson get T'd up?
  12. St. Patrick Freshmen are 5-0 beating Brossart, Fleming, Campbell Co, St. Henry, & Mason Co. Anybody else have any Freshmen records to post? There is nowhere to find Freshmen news, other than here. It would be nice to know how some other teams are doing.
  13. Harrison County has Coke sponsored scoreboards, which unfortunately translates to Coke at the concession stand.........I agree, a four letter word. But the Snappy Tomato Pizza is pretty good. Somewhere I remember pizza that was like those frozen, microwave pizzas, ...tasted like cardboard. May have been Nicholas County.... I'm not sure.
  14. Bourbon County's is too far from the gym.......if you ask me. Augusta's is tops!
  15. Hard to beat Fleming in Fleming.... Fleming shoots a lot of threes and if they are hitting them, Deming needs to stay on FC outside. I really think Deming has a good chance, though.
  16. I didn't hear the first half, but it sounds like St Pat had to climb out of a hole twice to take this one. Exciting game!
  17. What was that technical foul about????
  18. St. Henry Freshmen lost to St. Patrick last night. I believe St. Henry was undefeated going into that one.
  19. St. Pat having a bad night, hitting only 19% from the floor (not an official number, just what I heard) and maybe even worse from the charity stripe. Nicholas Co. hit a lot of 3's.
  20. I am suprised that Fleming is 1-4. I went back and checked and they were #9 in the 16th Region in the CJ coaches poll. Have they just played really tough teams or are they just not that strong?
  21. I heard it was the 1000th point for D. Alex as well....congrats to both!
  22. I, too, would like to know some freshman scores. What region is St. Henry in? I know B. Brossart lost to Maysville St. Patrick by about 20 pts. I would like to know what the other region 10 teams are doing?
  23. I heard the score could have been worse but the Saints spent the last half of the fourth quarter feeding the ball to a few players who are less experienced and will not get much playing time so they could shoot and hopefully get in the books. So there were a lot of open shots that were passed off to other players to let them shoot. And as far as the LI article being cut off I was only remarking that the last sentence on the sports page just ends abruptly, I wasn't insinuating that they need a two page story, just remarking that I thought the paper made a mistake with the layout.
  24. Wow, we were all way off......St Patrick 71, Augusta 26 according to the LI. Ouch!Although, the story is chopped up. It says it continues on page A8 when it actually continues on A11 and it seems some of the story is missing.
