Top 5 Shooters/Scorers at your high school/10th Region
At St. Patrick I would have to give props to Jay Gast. He made a lot of outside shots before there was a three point goal and still averaged about 30 points a game, if I remember correctly.

St. Patrick girls coach
ladiesbballcoach earlier posted that in high school you are playing your best vs their best as opposed to grade level vs grade level. I didn't attend either Mason County / St. Patrick game this past season, but I listened on the radio and in the second game it seemed that the St. Patrick coach played his bench a whole lot more. That could have been the reason for the smaller margin of victory by Mason County. I think there was a lot of talent on the bench that wasn't being utilized earlier in the season, proving the point that you play your best players regardless of their grade level.

St. Patrick girls coach
My understanding is that St. Patrick isn't going to play in the Mason County summer league. Right? I don't know that there is anything being decided about playing Mason County in the regular season. Does somebody know for sure? I think that was just a comment by "All In".

St. Patrick girls coach
I happened to be out on my lunch break and with St. Patrick having prom tonight there were girls that were dismissed early to go get their hair done, etc. and one told me that it was announced to the girl players this morning that Elaine Douglas will be the new coach. Just what I was told...nothing official yet.

Needing a new coach at St. Patrick
okay, LBM, but if your daughter comes home and tells you something was said, and several other players also tell their parents the same thing, couldn't there be some truth to it? For example....one of my children came home from kindergarden and told me something one day that was said by the teacher, totally unappropriate and I thought "surely the teacher would not have told a room of first graders that" and later that day I saw the grandfather of one of her classmates who asked about my child and how they were doing with school and I told him about the comment my child made and he said "well now that's strange, because I picked my grandson up today and he told me the same thing" soon other parents were telling the same story so I have to believe my child wasn't fabricating it. This btw was something that the teacher also told the kids not to tell their parents about. I have a little more sense than to act on something just because my child said it was true....I usually check the story out first, not because I think my child lies, but I do believe children can get confused and tend to twist the facts sometimes. Usually when my child informs me of something that has happened that seems unusual, I will tell them to let it go, if it's not a big thing. But if it is something I think I should be concerned about, I will investigate it before I act on it. Trust me I am not a parent who thinks their child can do no wrong. I am probably far too critical of my children, at times. They will gladly second that comment, I'm sure. When my children complain to me that they are not getting enough playing time (whatever the sport), my response is "then you need to practice harder, step up your game and earn more playing time." That's pretty much my atitude, if you want it - earn it.

I don't mean that question in the way that you took it. I don't mean in the respect that relatives want more playing time for their daughter because they think that their child is better than that. I mean relatives that would know what goes on in the locker room or at practice...not anything to do with their childs ability. It was not a question about the physical aspect of being on the team...more the mental and emotional aspect. Does that make sense at all??

Needing a new coach at St. Patrick
I agree about John Chamberlain. He does a good job! Back to my other question. Does anyone here have a relative who has played girls ball at St. Pat in the last ten years that has an opinion on why they think the school wants to "go in a different direction"?

Needing a new coach at St. Patrick
Can I ask....how many here have a daughter, granddaughter, or relative that has played ball at St. Pat? If not, how many St. Pat games do you attend each year? If you don't know first hand what the situation was, why do you feel like you know all the facts? If you know the coach and you get your info from him, do you think his side of the story could be just that, his side of the story. After all could he be a little bitter? Most people I know who are let go or fired are bitter, and it's never their fault. That's natural. Do you know the other side? Why do you think the school was so unjust in letting a coach go? Just asking because I would like to know where you get your info and what you have based your opinions on? Maybe you know something I don't. Enlighten me.

Needing a new coach at St. Patrick
You know, when you go back to the first years of St. Patrick girls basketball, I don't think you can really compare those records. I remember those years and the thing is, most of those girls had only played ball for a couple of years if any. Somebody needs to go back and see when St. Pat actually started having grade school girls teams. When they started a high school team most of those girls were just learning the fundamentals, as opposed to recent years when they start at the third and fourth grade level (or younger if they play at the boys club starting in kindergarden).

How many people on this site are girl players at St Patrick or the parents of a player at St. Patrick? How many of you have been to all the games. Pick your daughter up from practice to hear complaints, invest time any money into having your child on this team? If you answer "no", then maybe you don't know all the facts. I don't even know all the facts but I have more sense than to believe this happened because a "few" parents complained Some of you make it sound like the administration at St. Patricks are bumbling idiots, but from my experience I have found they don't do what is popular, they do what is best for the school. The school comes first, before sports. Again, I will say that I feel 100% sure that any complaints made by parents or students were not the reason for a coach not being asked back, but probably the reason for the school to take a closer look into those complaints and make a decision based on their findings. Anyone who would believe that a few parents complained and they let a caoch go really needs to get a clue. And as for loyalty...I agree if Jerry Orme had left on his own, no matter what the circumstances it wouldn't have been looked at as if he had no loyalty. Would it get a front page story? If he had quit the day of the season opener it wouldn't have gotten this much attention. And to shamrock fan.....I have to agree it is a horrible, horrible place full of horrible people and incompetent administrators. I think everyone should take their kids out of St. Patrick, right now, in protest!!!!!! LOL- Needing a new coach at St. Patrick
Thank you All In ....I couldn't remember coach Starns' name. I wanted to bring that up about how he was passed over and it being an issue at MCHS and yet life goes on and so does basketball. I don't even remember it making the headlines when Starns was overlooked. I think news of that came when O'Hearn was named as coach and it was all about As far as those who want to dis Mrs. Douglas because you think she doesn't have experience because she is only a Jr High coach, I think you should look back at Mr. Ormes coaching experience. I'm not sure he had ever coached before being contracted to coach at St. Patrick. If anyone can correct me on that, please do. I remember him being a referee. And yet he was given a chance and did well. And can someone verify that Danny McKay coached St. Pat girls???? I really don't remember that. After all it was the 80's and I'm trying to forget the 80's...maybe I blocked that out along with the "New Kids on The Block". LOL- Needing a new coach at St. Patrick
I don't know about a questionaire, but I find it hard to believe that it would dictate an outcome. I do think it would give the administration a reason to take a closer look at the program.- Needing a new coach at St. Patrick
I do not know why Mr Orme was let go in the manner that he was, but I for one do not feel like we know all of the story. I find it hard to believe that the AD did not know what was going on, and I wonder if he was mis-quoted in the LI story. He may not have known that Orme was being informed of the decision, but surely he knew what was going on. In the defense of Mrs. Douglas...I happen to know that she is a wonderful coach, and I know this because I have followed her teams for several years. She expects the best from her players and she gets it because her players respect her. I for one think she would be a wonderful replacement. Saint patrick does not care about winning titles....I'm sure this had nothing to do with that. It had nothing to do with Mr. Ormes record as a coach. It is my understanding that many parents had some issues and complained. Mr. Ormes was not let-go because they complained, but it was probably those complaints that gave the administration a reason to take a closer look at the girls program. I feel sure a decision was made based on what was observed. As far as parents threatening to pull their kids out of St. Patrick if Ormes stayed, I heard it differently. I heard that the girls were threatening to not play if he stayed. That is just what I have heard and I don't know if either is true. As far as Mr Kirry, the principal...it is my understanding that he has coached basketball and and he does have knowledge of the game. I personally have dealt with St. Patrick school and I know from experience that the administration is not going to dismiss someone just because some parents complain. Anyway, parents pay for everyting their kids do so they should have some say....parents pay tuition and have to help earn the money that pays for all sports, they should be able to express their opinion if they have an issue. If you do not know the full story, you shouldn't be posting an opinion. I for one think Mr. Orme should be complimented for the job he has done at Saint Patrick, and it should be left at that. Move on. Yes, I agree that it was not handled they way it should have been (if the LI story is accurate) but that should be the only controversy here. Qiut making more of it than what it is. - Needing a new coach at St. Patrick
