  1. Hitting wasn't all that common for Ryle either. :lol2: Just three hits for Ryle as well, but two come in 1st inning with big one being RBI single by Craven. Great performance by both pitchers - Smith has been lights out for Ryle all season.
  2. Ryle is having such a stellar season they might be top seed in the 36th as well???
  3. Ryle should end up top seed in 33rd (currently 2-0), but still has final seeding game against Boone, who is (I believe) also undeafeated within the district (1-0).
  4. 7-0 for Ryle's Justin Hoard this season! Impressive, to say the least. Has pitched very well all season long.

  6. In an extremely exciting and all-around well-played game by both teams on Saturday (4/27) afternoon, Ryle beats PRP in 11 innings to go 3-0 for the weekend and the overall winner in the Kentucky Futures Showcase Tournament hosted by Lexington Dunbar. Ryle got tremendous pitching throughout the tournament. The PRP win was handled by Alex Goodridge (6 inn), Trent Mills (2 inn), and Max Lonnemann (3 inn). Big two-out RBI singles by Marshall Rich, as well as some timely bunting by the Raiders. Ryle played exceptional defense, highlighted by Lonnemann (SS) and Brady Ast (2B/SS). PRP got an outstanding pitched game as well from #33, who went 9 innings before being relieved. Raiders beat Lexington Christian 9-3 earlier in the day behind the pitching of Jake Ziegelmeyer. Key hits by Ziegelmeyer and Collin Craven. On Friday evening, the Raiders defeated Dunbar by the score of 5-2 behind a first-rate, complete-game pitching performance by Tyler Smith.
  7. Congrats! Campbell must have some pretty solid JV pitching then, as I was very impressed with the Eblin (sp?) kid as well when Ryle faced them
  8. Not at all, TOG! Especially if you buy me a Gruber burger next time I'm at CCH. :lol2: I have not seen any of the top teams in the state play and, frankly, not all that many teams around here locally due to commitments elsewhere within Ryle's program. I have seen the Ryle varsity team a couple of times. They are very good, no doubt about it. I do think they are odds on favorite to win region at this point, but the region is just so hard to predict (plus NCC frequently throws a wrench in a lot of people's plans). Based on top ten teams I have seen in past years, I absolutely agree with you, TOG. As good though they may be, I do not see Ryle at that level - yet. They are probably worthy of being a couple notches above where they are at currently ranked though.
  9. Told by one Anderson parent today that it was probably their best all-around game of the season. And I agree, the play by Mason was stellar. Jumped high in the air to catch line drive hit by batter and then made a mid-air turnaround swipe tag of 1B runner as he was trying to get back to bag.
  10. Huge first inning RBI single by Marshall Rich to cap 3-run inning. Eventual game winning run scored in 3rd inning on suicide bunt by Andrew Louden. Goodridge pitched an outstanding game against an absolutely brutal-hitting Highlands team. Even the bottom of the order mashes the ball on that team. Brooks Robinson-type play down at 3B by Jake Puthoff and terrific game ending catch in CF by Noah Berg. Biggest play of the game, however, may have been by SS Max Lonneman on shallow fly ball in 5th inning that LF'er couldn't quite hang on to as he dove to catch. Ball ball popped out of glove, Lonneman grabs loose ball, turns and fires dart to 2B to catch batter-runner trying to stretch into double. Nice comeback game by Raiders, who had been beat up on 2 weeks earlier by same Highlands club.
  11. Agree about See, though I would still call his fastball "sneaky fast." You throw 3 different pitches for strikes, as does See, and you will be very, very effective in high school, even if you don't have some blazing fastball. Coach Roesel showed a lot of confidence in him by starting him in a huge district game such a this.
  12. I said early on that this is an extremely deep and talented Ryle squad with a lot of quality pitching. They are in the midst of an outstanding year to date and I believe will make some serious noise in region. Tyler Mason with three more hits tonight has been on a tear and he's just one of many. Congrats Raiders.
  13. Ryle Head Coach Pat Roesel picked up his 400th career win in tonight's victory over Covington Catholic. Especially sweet in that Coach Roesel picked up the milestone win over his mentor and friend, Coach Kumplebeck, who was head coach at CCH when Coach Roesel played there. Coach Roesel is in his 21st year at Ryle and is the only varsity coach in the history of the school. Only Coach Krumpelbeck and Coach Maxwell in this area have more wins.
  14. I can name many, many players that love playing at Freedom. You may not like it, and certainly there are some players and coaches that don't, but it's hardly a universal feeling.
  15. I would be somewhat suspicious of someone touting a 1.8 sec high school pop time unless it has occurred at a Perfect Game camp or something similar. 1.8 is a very good time for a major league catcher, much less a high schooler. I suspect this falls into the same category of every fast high school school runner automatically running "4.6" or a high school pitcher that throws hard automatically throwing in the "mid-80's." Certainly not saying impossible by any means, but I'd be curious to know the basis for crediting some catcher around here with a 1.8 pop time.
  16. Believe you're likely talking about Dylan Plvan. Thomas Baumann has also started out the year very strong for Ryle. In fact, Baumann just set Ryle's career triples record last week.
  17. Admittedly a little biased, but I think you'd have to rank Ryle as one of your top two teams right now.
  18. My understanding is that Freedom gets the entire gate durng the games and obviously all of the conccession proceeds. I don't think there is any cost to the schools, other than umpires, unless lights are needed and even then it is possible there might not be a charge if the gate numbers are sufficient. Lights would be required early in the season with more limited daylight and with smaller crowds due to colder weather, teams don't want to incur that expense. I also think part of the reason is due to the loss of gate/concesssions proceeds. Most teams are given very little, if any, money directly from the school and need to raise their own operating funds. Gate and concessions are an important money maker for a lot of the schools.
  19. Outstanding pitching performance for both teams - Ziegelmeyer for Ryle and Edlin for Campbell. Both pitchers gave up only two hits and no earned runs. Campbell won in walk-off fashion in bottom of the 7th on a mishandled ground ball. Ryle back at it today against Conner.
  20. Who has Dunn pitched against this year and what were the results?
  21. To state it mildly. I didn't grow up on a farm, so I was never taken out behind the woodshed (I did get hit with a belt and hairbrush though :lol2:), but would have to assume it would look and feel something like what happened to Ryle today. From the first pitch of the CCH game until the last pitch of the HHS game, they were outpitched, outhit, outdefended, and outplayed. Add in that their opponents are both very good teams and it was pretty much a beatdown. Congrats to CCH and HHS. I believe the Raiders will have a chance for redemption later this season. The good news for the Raiders is that they are 50x better than what they showed yesterday and still very capable of winning the region. I would expect them to come out with a ton of energy and intensity against Campbell tomorrow and erase the memories of two very ugly games.
  22. The thing that makes Ryle especially dangerous this year is that they truly do have all three parts of the game - very good pitching, excellent defense, solid hitting. Not that all three parts necessary show up every game, but if you can get at least two of those parts to show up - and Ryle usually does - it's a pretty safe assumption you will be in the game and have a good chance to win it.
  23. Zig is one of the top pitchers on a very deep squad and an excellent player. He is going to have a killer career at Ryle. Nice kid to bootl
  24. Wow, I am stunned that a mod didn't put this thing to end long before now. WAY off track here.
  25. Excellent test of Ryle's pitching depth, which honestly is very, very impressive for a JV team. Ryle defense has been solid, not spectacular, but will improve as the weather warms up. I expect the bats for them (and all teams) to start to liven up a bit more now that we are hopefully finished with 40-degree weather games. This is a deep, talented Raider JV team and the DH Saturday against two very good teams is a great test for them. Throw in the 70 degree temps and it's going to be fun!!
