  1. So what specific actions or inactions did he take that are behind the firing? "Going a different direction" sounds pretty and all, but doesn't say much. There must have been something (or things) very specific that had someone important all bent out of shape. You don't let this send this kind of success packing unless there's a story behind the story.
  2. Some of the leaps and innuendos this guy takes in the storyline are ridiculous.
  3. That is great. Super nice kid from a super family. Really hoping he makes it big (so I can get him to autograph a bunch of stuff and put it on eBay - haha).
  4. Well then that's going to make it extremely tough for him to win this award again next year. Was thinking he was a junior. Starting with my Halfziemer's medication soon.
  5. Neither BB or NCC is my team, but if it turns out to be an all-NKY final, I'm heading down. Neat place to watch a ballgame anyways.
  6. So I assume pitcher Nate Verst is the head coach's son?
  7. I think it hurt him this year because there was that one player out there (Maile) who put up such stellar number in multiple areas. If Maile had hit .100 less or had several more losses pitching than he did, it probably would have been very close. The right choice was made. Though I agree that on a single given night, Downs was the most dominant player in NKY. Maile will be tough to beat out again next year. It'll probably take someone else who can up numbers both pitching and hitting to push him - perhaps players like Bartels, Cain, Maines, Collins, Tiberi, etc..
  8. Junior game to be played at Dixie at 5:00 p.m. Senior game will start following (roughly 7:30 p.m.) Ryle junior selectees: OF Thomas Baumann (also a selection for NKYBCA All-Region team) and OF Tyler Mason Ryle senior selectees: 1B Bryan Comora (NKYBCA All-Region team) and SS Leiff Clarkson. Mark Downs was selected to represent the Ninth Region in the KHSBCA State All Star Series on June 19-20 at Uof L. I believe each region selects two players. Not sure who the other selection is.
  9. While I didn't realize hiswas the coaches' award, it really doesn't change my opinion all that much. Coaches don't see players from other teams other than a few times a year (at most) either. Definitely the case with the Enquirer award. It would be impossible for Enquirer guys to see enough of each possible POY candidate to truly assess their defensive skills. Catcher would certainly be the easiest to do, since he's active on every play. But you could go to a game of a CF in the running for the award and only see him catch one routine fly ball. Doesn't tell you much. Maile was the logical choice because he put up such stellar numbers both pitching and hitting. I do, however, think the Pitcher of the Year (if they give that award) is unquestionably Downs.
  10. I would submit that the people voting on the awards generally aren't all that familiar with a player's defense, as they simply don't see enough of each potential candidate's games to know where they stand defensively. Most of the other kids considered usually play meaningful defensive positions as well - CF, SS, 3B, etc. Don't disagree that C is not an extremely important - maybe the most important - defensive position, but very much doubt that Enquirer voters have seen enough of Lankheit to know if defensively he was the second coming of Johnny Bench or second coming of Mike Piazza. By and large, this is an offensive/pitching based award.
  11. So can we assume that anyone chosen other than your grandson would not be deemed a legitimate pick in your eyes? Wow, just congratulate the kids that won and move on. I could rail on (and post stats) about how Downs from Ryle should've been in the mix, but not much purpose served. Congrats to Lankheit. Congrats to Maile. Both excellent players that deserved the accolades. To the other very high quality players out there that didn't get selected, congrats on your fine performances and careers as well.
  12. 10-0 Record for Verst is pretty good. Amazing he's not considered one of the top pitchers in the region by some. I know nothing about him. Does he throw hard? Good offspeed pitches? Good control? What year is he?
  13. I'm thinking they may show up on the end-of-year one. :thumb:
  14. Absolutely huge win! If you're from NKY, no way not to be fired up about this. I am all for an NCC-Brossart final!!
  15. Nicely done. I was wondering if anyone would catch the Shawshank connection (greatest movie in the history of the world BTW).
  16. Out of this entire thread, I will give you this - and only this - point. Withholding a piece of paper is one thing. Refusing to send a transcript and affecting his potential to attend college is something completely different and over-the-top.
  17. I accept your gracious acknowedgement of defeat.
  18. I'm sure you already realized this, but the analogy was to point out that an action is not serious simply because no one may have "suffered". Don't be too intentionally obtuse. I wish I had written the policy. I fully support it and wouldn't back down one iota.
  19. The kid graduated. He just temporarily doesn't have the official piece of paper. I'm sure any college considering him can easily verify the fact that he met all graduation requirements. Wow. 20 hours of community service. Brutal. Almost like a life sentence on Alcatraz.
  20. No, I'm really not. Sorry, but don't think you are the one seeing this one clearly. MY view of how to behave at a graduation ceremony is the time-honored, established view and the one that follows the explicit rules set forth by just about every school out there. THEIR view - and I suppose YOURS - is that everyone is free to do whatever the hell they want and then justify it because of their economic or racial status. So I can assume you also feel that if someone tries to commit murder by shooting someone, but misses, the matter should be dropped because no one was harmed or suffered? You have a rule because it's important and you don't selectively enforce rules only in those situations in which someone "suffered" as a result of breaking the rule.
  21. It's hardly unreasonable. Could it be less? Sure. But it's just not exactly a death sentence.
  22. So agree. I found this to be a huge issue at my daughter's school (Ryle) this year. Ryle graduates around 400 or so. The number of people that get up and leave - and in none too quiet a fashion - after their kid's name is called is ridiculous. Our last name starts with one of the first letters in the alphabet, so my daughter was called early on. It would have been great to get up and leave at that point, but it also would have been wrong - and rude - and disrespectful. So we sat there, like the vast majority of folks, so others could have their moment as well. But the number of people who apparently had the mindset, "Well, I heard my kid's name. Screw everyone else. We're outta here" was unreal. The noise caused when a group of people tramples down bleachers is quite loud and distracting. Oh, and Ryle has no "socio-economic" issues. It just involved several selfish, arrogant people.
  23. Certainly other solid juniors out there this year - Collins, Maines, Maile, etc - but Bartels has to be considered as one of top two pitchers heading into 2013 season. And the other may very well be his teammate Cain. Very, very solid 1-2 combination for NCC. You can do a lot of damage with a pitching lineup like that.
