Ryle 13 Cooper 2

Featured Replies

Final score from University of Cincinnati Medical Center Field (aka Florence Freedom). Ryle's Senior Justin Hoard gets the win and improves his record to 7-0. Cooper's Hunter Dunn gets the loss.

Did Ryle explode late?

I thought I saw it was 2-1 around the 4th or 5th inning.

Boy could I tell you stories about Clyde and some twits. :D

A couple postion questions, but the Raiders took advantage of the Jaguars miscues. 4-5 passed balls and 6 errors made it rough. Dunn threw decent after a 2 week layoff and the Raiders swings were defensive since his FB was clocking 86-87 to start the game. They didn't have an earned run against him, but like usual, took advantage when it was given to them. Still waiting to see the Jags put the line-up on the field to give them the best shot. Plug one position and don't create situations to were you have to plug multiple spots by moving players out of position. That was not the big problem tonight, but still an issue. The passed balls were on the catcher, but then again, he's used to catching kids that don't break 75 and you could throw one kid in there that might hit 80 on a good day. Fussinger is usually the kid that catches him, but not today. Don't know if I can blame the other catcher since he's never caught him though. All I can say is it's a big difference from a MPH level and had to be tough for him. Hat's off to Justin Hoard on keeping the Jags off balance.

Starting pitching was great for both teams. Dunn pitched 5 and 2/3 and had 1 earned run at the most if he had any. Relief pitching came in the 6th and the flood gates opened. 8 runs scored in 6th and the rest in 7th.

Jags couldnt get the bats going, Hoard pitched a great game. Both teams were struggling at the plate against starting pitchers. I believe it was 2-0 through most of the game with only 3 hits by Ryle and 2 hits by Cooper through 4 or 5 innings.

Cooper is getting runners in scoring position but can't seem to drive them in. Been plagued by that lately.

Hopefully they get the sticks working tomorrow against Boone.

Well I did miss the "tweets" but then again, your comment "That me chuckle" made me chuckle!

Question to "TOG". Misplayed balls by outfielders, do you consider an error and passed balls by the catchers, do you put that in as an ER or UER? You seem to know a lot about how these things are scored so would like your opinion? Thanks "TBC"

I won't speak for TOG as he clearly knows how to score a game.

Passed balls are like errors when it comes to calculating ERs.

Misplayed in the outfield is subjective. Bad angle? Not an error thus earned. Camped under it and simply misses it ? Error - unearned. In other words, it depends.

A Passed Ball is just that, a Passed Ball it is "not: an error.

In baseball, a catcher is charged with a passed ball when he fails to hold or control a legally pitched ball that, with ordinary effort, should have been maintained under his control. When, as a result of this loss of control, the batter or a runner on base advances, the catcher is thereby charged with a passed ball. A runner who advances due to a passed ball is not credited with a stolen base unless he breaks for the base before the pitcher begins his delivery.

A passed ball may be scored when a runner on first, second, or third base reaches the next base on a bobble or missed catch by the catcher, or when the batter-runner reaches first base on an uncaught strike three (see also Strikeout).

A closely related statistic is the wild pitch. As with many baseball statistics, whether a pitch that gets away from a catcher is a passed ball or wild pitch is at the discretion of the official scorer. Typically, pitches that are deemed to be ordinarily catchable by the catcher, but are not, are ruled passed balls, while pitches that get by the catcher that are thought to have required extraordinary effort by the catcher in order to stop them are wild pitches. If the pitch was so low as to touch the ground, or so high that the catcher has to rise out of his crouched position to get to it, or so wide that the catcher has to lunge for it, it is usually then considered a wild pitch and not a passed ball.

A scored run due to a passed ball is not recorded as an earned run. However, a scored run due to a wild pitch is recorded as an earned run.

Passed balls and wild pitches are considered to be part of the act of pitching rather than fielding. Thus they are kept as separate statistics and are not recorded as errors.

There tends to be a higher incidence of passed balls when a knuckleballer is pitching. The physics that make a knuckleball so difficult to hit make it similarly difficult to catch. While teams with a knuckleballer on their pitching staff often employ a special "knuckleball catcher" who is equipped with a knuckleball mitt, similar to a first baseman's glove, it is still extremely difficult to catch.

If you notice my stats sheets there is a separate place for PB for the Catcher.

So....First and Second, passed ball, on a waist high fastball, runners 2nd and 3rd. Next pitch WP run is considered an ER?

No run shall be earned when the runner's advance is aided by an error, a passed ball, or defensive interference or obstruction, if the scorer judges that the run would not have scored without the aid of such misplay.

And this is one reason why it takes some time to post the stats as at least for me, I go over the game to recreate the plays to double check or at least try to double check my scoring!

It can get hard at the games at times, to decide what is earned and what is unearned as there are pitch count to keep track of and a lot of other things going on and that is why when I get home I try to go back over my book to double check my scoring.

That's what I thought, but wasn't for sure. Thank you for clearing that up for me. You are the man when it comes to this stuff. Thank You!
