Grant County's Shayna Lockard scored a game high 21pts. She has been working hard & it is showing on the court.

Another tough loss for Grant County, who led until the 3rd. Williamstown played a zone for the first half. They came out in a full court press & went man to man for the 2nd half. Grant County played well, but it wasn't quite enough tonight. On a sidenote, the Williamstown team & their coach gave Grant County's Candace Gorby, sidelined the rest of the season with an ACL injury, a get well card signed by the whole Williamstown team & coaches. Gorby was humbled & brought to tears by the gesture (in addition to the tears she shed after the loss). Isn't that what athletics is all about? Great sportmanship & a great deal of respect shown to a fellow athlete. Congrats to the Lady Demons on the win. Keep your heads up Grant County...a lot of season is left!

Agreed. 3 seniors at Grant County have never lost to Williamstown in their high school careers. I don't think they will want their last game against Williamstown to be a loss. Grant County with the win, but it will be a battle!

WV with the win if they put them away early & maintain it through the 4th qtr. The 4th qtr blues seems to be a pattern as of late.

Big game because of district seeding & avoiding Simon Kenton in the first round. Grant County won the first match-up earlier this year. Who wins Friday night?

The game looked to be WV's easily until the 4th. Grant County girls played with a lot of heart & gave it everything they had & more. Well coached game by Grant's Guffy, even when WV held a big lead at times. Grant did not go away. I have to admit that some of the things WV did baffled me a bit. They did not pressure the ball as much as I thought they would...when they did, they forced TO's. I also don't understand the play they kept running in the 4th. Hargett did not get touches on the play?? Workman for Grant is a player to watch. Getting her under control may be the biggest obstacle to her development, but there is no doubt she brings tons of raw talent & a hard nosed effort to the basket to the floor. I would say the inside/outside game at Grant County (Gorby/Workman combo) will be something to keep any eye on next season. Coach Guffy looks up to the task after the job he & his team did last night. Not a win, but progress! Keep it up.

One of those players that you found yourself watching all of the time in a game to the exclusion of all the other players on the court. He can still play. :ylsuper: He has been awesome training with my daughter & his work with her shows in her play.

Grant County, I believe Allen Shafer scored 49 against Lexington Catholic a few seasons back. He was making unbelievable shots. I have this one on film & pull it out every once in a while for my daughter, who trains with Allen, to watch!

No one else should be out now. All should be suited up & playing tonight. Morgan missed Saturday's game because of illness & Hopperton had been out due to illness, but she was back playing Saturday.

Losing Gorby for the season will weigh on the Grant team, but district games are always what seniors seem to focus on & they will try to step up, especially knowing that Williamstown is later this week. These are must win games for WV, Grant & Williamstown. No on wants the 4th seed & have Simon Kenton first up in district play. Grant is a team still searching for an identity, hopefully they find it tonight. This team showed a lot of promise over the summer & at the beginning of the season with wins over Owen, Trimble & barely losing to Oldham Co, but losing Gorby may be too much to overcome because of position changes. I hate to say it, but it will be WV tonight. They have been playing with a new found confidence as we approach the latter part of the season & are just too deep. Never know though! Someone at Grant may have a break out game tonight & be unstoppable: it could be an "any given sunday" night!

#24 Candace Gorby, the starting junior PG at Grant County, will be out the rest of the season with knee injuries that occurred earlier this week in a game at Pendleton County. She will have ACL replacement & meniscus repair surgery very soon & will have a long road to recovery, but her prognosis is excellent & she is expected to return for her senior year at 100%. Thank you to all the BGP'rs out there who have wished her well & sent their prayers after hearing of her injury! She is in great spirits & determined in her effort toward recovery.

I think this is a great thread. I agree, it is a physical game, but at what point do we draw the line on what is too physical to the point of it being "dirty"? At this point, you are right, players have no choice but to play "physical" right back or get run out of a gym, or at the worst extreme, get hurt. I think consistency in officiating is a huge problem. You never know what you are going to get! It makes a coach's job very difficult. You can play up close & personal defense without being "dirty". I think Simon Kenton is a great example of that.

Although a trainer was not at Pendleton's game, the folks at Pendleton were very caring & wished Candace Gorby well as she was wheeled out of the gym. Some Pendleton folks outside (and Grant folks too) helped get her into the car & were very concerned for her. I did not know a lady from Pendleton who came up to her as she was getting ready to leave the gym at the half to tell Candace how much she appreciated watching her play over the years & how much she enjoyed talking to Candace before the game. I know at the time Candace was in a lot of pain & upset about how she had been playing, but I know after she was calmer, she was appreciative of the Pendleton folks that helped her. Thanks to all of them from Candace! She did say though she will be back & next time she will work on a different outcome!

Gorby, PG for Grant went out at the beginning of the 2nd with a knee injury. Left the gym at the half. Her return is uncertain. Hopperton, another starter for Grant did not play due to illness. Officiating was interesting. Grant has struggled all year with adjusting to it when playing in a game when they let everything go & let it get physical. The same kind of play that normally gets them into foul trouble wasn't getting called. They did not adjust to the push-offs & Pendleton's very physical play. Gotta learn to adjust to any kind of officiating & be ready for it. Congrats to Pendleton. They just outright out-hustled Grant County & deserved the win.

I thought the WV younger generation did a great job sparking the team in the Grant game. Finishing for Grant has been a problem & continues to be. Grant had a double digit lead at some points in the game. As Jeanie mentioned, speed from an opponents guard(s) was a problem for WV. Gorby (PG for Grant) was especially difficult for the WV guards to handle, at least until the 4th when she went down (calf problems) & returned late in the game. WV subbed deep into their bench & tried to work on the Grant guards heavily in the 2nd half. Grant played 7. I agree with Jeanie, if Grant had finished their shots & hadn't gotten tired, it would have been a different outcome. But back to the thread! If WV continues on their current path, stick with bringing in the younger gals & keep Hargett in a scoring position (NOT the point), they will continue to improve. I thought some of the adjustments they made in that game to what they had been doing before in the season was much needed! Look out in the next few years! The younger generation is strong. If WV sticks to their recent game plan, WV with the win over Wmstown. WV fans, keep positive! You have a lot to look forward to over the rest of the season & in the next few years.
