Walton Verona 62 Grant County 59

Recommended Posts

Final. Very lackluster performance by the Lady Cats. Grant Co. out hustled them and could have won the game. Without a doubt, Workman was the best player on the floor. She was almost unstoppable. She plays with alot of heart and desire. Very impressive for a freshman.

Hargett - 15 points

Heeger - 11 points (3 Threes)

Sargent - 9 points (3 Threes)

Gin - 10 points (Late three to help Walton come out on top)

Dixon - 10 points

Walton seemed a little slow in this game. Hargett didn't have her best game but still ended with 15. Sargent had 3 Three's in the first half and gave Walton a good lead to start off. Walton soon took a few starters out, and Grant County started to chip away at the lead. They came back hard, but wasn't enough. Good win for Walton, but need to play better when tougher teams come up.

Good play by Grant without their PG. Good win for Walton.

I've seen Walton play several times this year and this ranks up there as one of their worst performances when it comes to intensity. No one showed any fire or desire to win. I thought the senior leadership would step it up but that was not the case. They seemed content to just go through the motions. I knew it would be a difficult game for Walton just watching them warm-up in the pre-game. It was amazing how they clowned around and wasn't focused on the task ahead of them. It resembled something you would see in open gym. In years past, the seniors would have ensured this would not happen and kept the team focused. Give Grant Co. credit, they played their hearts out. Also, Grant was playing without their starting point guard. They appeared to want the win more than Walton but they just couldn't pull it out.

Not sure what your definition of a good win is, but I guess a win is a win. Looked to me like Walton did everything in their power to throw this one away. Good thing Dixon hit her free throws down the stretch. Give credit to Grant and their Coach. They never gave up.

It's a good win because of two reason. Big district win, and a win off a hard "L" to Trimble. Walton just needed a win, and they got it.

This win may give Walton fans that "warm and fuzzy" feeling again.

 I don't think so. Like Catpride said, it was not a pretty win. But a win is a win. I wouldn't be worried about the fan's Madman, I think the girls needed to build off this win and play harder next game. It's at the trail end of the season. It's a long season, the girls need to come together again, and make something happen.

If that's going to happen, the seniors better step-up and show some leadership, desire and fire. Didn't see that tonight. See my previous post.

The game looked to be WV's easily until the 4th. Grant County girls played with a lot of heart & gave it everything they had & more. Well coached game by Grant's Guffy, even when WV held a big lead at times. Grant did not go away.

I have to admit that some of the things WV did baffled me a bit. They did not pressure the ball as much as I thought they would...when they did, they forced TO's. I also don't understand the play they kept running in the 4th. Hargett did not get touches on the play??

Workman for Grant is a player to watch. Getting her under control may be the biggest obstacle to her development, but there is no doubt she brings tons of raw talent & a hard nosed effort to the basket to the floor. I would say the inside/outside game at Grant County (Gorby/Workman combo) will be something to keep any eye on next season. Coach Guffy looks up to the task after the job he & his team did last night. Not a win, but progress! Keep it up.

Madman, what's your beef with the Seniors? Granted not everyone is a "leader". You play as a team and win and lose as a team. I'm tired of reading blame the seniors, blame the coach, blame etc. It's a team effort so quit blaming seniors for not stepping up. Each girl has their talent and just because they are a senior does not mean they are going to excel more than what they are able. As to warm ups, it seems to me most girls teams cut up and don't always take it so serious. Sounds to me you are to upset to be glad about a win. Not all games won look pretty but a win is a win when you read it in the paper.:bunny:
