  1. Below is the updated list of Schools with the most Sweet 16 wins during the past 10 year period. 1. Scott County 15 2 tie. Ballard 11 2 tie. Warren Central 11 4 tie. Mason County 9 4 tie. Lexington Catholic 9 6 tie. PRP 7 6 tie. South Laural 7 8. Male 6 9 tie. Paducah Tilghman 5 9 tie. Elizabethtown 5
  2. And that aint happening. I guarantee it
  3. Complimentary is the wrong word. According to the school board attorney, if the coaches sell the ticket his employers purchased for him at any price he could be fired.
  4. At the Sweet 16 I noticed a steady stream of high school basketball coaches selling their complimentary tickets to scalpers in front of DeShae's restaurant. When I casually mentioned this to a friend who happens to be a school board attorney, he said those coaches would probably lose their jobs if caught. Do you think these guys know the chance they are taking to make a few bucks at the Sweet 16?
  5. $100,000? Thats more than Hicks, Renner, or Listerman make. Maybe they should apply for the Hazard job.
  6. It was just one year ago that Hazard pushed Spurlock out to get Morris. Where is Morris going?
  7. He is the best coach in Kentucky High School basketball. Period. Coach Hicks has never and will never draw anything up in a timeout. Have you ever seen the man with a clipboard in his hand? He doesn't have one. That's because he knows winning basketball games is all about INDIVIDUAL PLAYER DEVELOPMENT, not Xs and Os.
  8. I don't know. Wouldn't they have improved more playing and practicing than not?
  9. Having 7 kids suspended for much of the season didn't help much eigher.
  10. You mean the new sports reporter in town didn't attend the celebration?
  11. 4) It was Scott Hundley's first state championship. He was runner-up and final four as a player. 5) Jimmy Warren deserves most of the credit for Beckham being held to 2 points. Warren was the reason SC was almost impossible to beat after he earned his way into the starting lineup. Warren locked up the other team's best guard. Good post and good observations.
  12. Is Hundley interested in Danville or is that only rumor. He would probably make a good one at whichever school he goes to.
  13. Greenup County is a done deal. They brought in the superintendant's son in law before the season started and gave him the title of "Dean of Students". He had a 1-24 record his last season of coaching in Ohio. He will be the coach in Greenup County.
  14. I don't have a clue either, but I am guessing there is not a huge amount of difference.
  15. He says that he has no desire for college coaching either. Did you know the small college jobs in Kentucky such as Cumberlands and Union pay about 1/2 of what a decent high school job pays? If Tony went from Corbin to the head man at Union he would take a 50% cut in pay.
  16. Bryan Station must have really felt cheated this year. I felt sorry for them. They may have had the third best team in the whole state but were thrown into a district with Scott Co. I hope the people at BSHS appreciate what they have in Champ.
  17. He has mentioned that he would like to build one more program before he retires. However, I don't think Harlan Co High will be it. Mike Jones wants the job and it is his for the taking. I think if Bobby Keith, Billy Hicks, John Wooden, Billy Donavan, and Mike Jones applied Jones would get this job.
  18. I think you're beating a dead horse. It aint goina happen anytime soon.
  19. Yes. Scott Co will be preseason #1. I think has just as much to do with respect for the SC basketball program as the players they have coming back. I know there were several years that Shelby Co and/or Oldham Co had much more talent coming back but Scott Co would be choosen as the #1 team in the 8th region in preseason. It was hard to believe that Oldham Co had Donta Smith and was never voted preseason #1 and Shelby Co had Silverhorn and Daniels and were never voted #1. Scott Co had noone close to those three during those years.
  20. The schools I listed above were only the class A schools.
  21. Its minners not minnows where me and Bill come from. As far as cooking, its by nessissity. Betsy aint goina cook nothin'. lol.
  22. Class A Paintsville 1987 1991 Covington Holy Cross Lex Cath 1992 (state runner-up) University Heights 1992 (state champion) Harlan 1995 Paintsville 1996 (state champion) Paintsville 1997 Paintsville 1998 (state runner-up) Russellville 2000 Russellville 2001 It looks like to me that out of the 80 teams that have been in the final four in the last 20 years over 13% have been Class A size schools. That averages to 1 Class A size school in the final four every other year.
  23. Mason and Scott Co will be contenders. Don't count out Bryan Station. If Henry Clay develops a point guard they could contend. Elliott Co will be world beaters in the 15th and 15th regions but I don't see them sweeping the state.
  24. Have you ever been to a Kentucky State Football finals? If you have you will know that a Class AA football championship does not compare in excitement or emotion to last night's state basketball championship. I bet if I asked most Kentucky sports fans who won the AAA state football championship in 1999 they would have to look it up unless their team was in it. But if you ask a Kentucky sports fan who won the Sweet 16 in 1999 they will reply Ballard without hesitation. I think the All A is fine. If you want a tournament for super small schools that would be a nice tournament also. But let's don't kill our Sweet 16.
