State Preview by the Herald Leader
I don't know how much stock you can take in predictions when the author picks a regional champ who is not in that region.

Great game. Conner was up late but quit playing zone. Sandfoss and Taulbee both had 17.

Walton Verona 34 Carroll County 29
I'm really glad the NCKC conference elected that you must play each conference team only once starting next year. Playing a team 3 times is not easy. The teams know each other so well. Not sure what you get out of a game that is 11-11 at halftime. Good luck to Coach Mefford and his team in next weeks district tournament. It was nice to see Valerie Warren go out with a win on her senior night. Hopefully Walton can find a way to win on Monday when they play Grant for a 3rd time.

Gallatin County 63 Oldham County 61
Congrats to Zach Jones. If you have not seen him play - he is worth the price of admission. Hard nosed kid who plays the right way.
-
Lauren Tibbs scores her 2000th career point
Congrats on a great accomplishment.
-
Walton Verona 76 Lloyd 27
Final from Walton. I believe all 14 girls scored for Walton, but someone will have to verify that.
-
Walton Verona 48 Owen County 46
Don't know if I would call 35-30 rebound margin dominating. Burns didn't score but he was a factor on defense. He made Owen's players adjust shots. Part of the reason they shot around 30% for the game as a team.

Walton Verona 46 Gallatin County 44 OT
I thought Gallatin played with a lot of energy on both ends. Coach Roberts had a very good game plan. A bounce one way or the other and it is a different outcome. I know officials take a beating most time, but I thought the game was very well officiated. Maybe the best game I've seen this year.

Walton Verona 48 Owen County 46
Owen didn't help themselves going 10-21 from the free throw line. I do agree with weakside - Osborne and Williams are going to be special players.
-
Peyton Wright scores 1000 career points
Congrats to Peyton, she is a very talented player. I would expect she will hit at least 2000 before she is finished playing for Owsley.
-
Walton Verona 49 Owen County 43
Final from Walton. I believe this wraps up the conference for Walton.

Walton Verona 48 Owen County 46
Final from Walton.

Owen County/Walton Verona Predictions
Owen County travels to Walton tonight. It will be interesting to see how these two teams match up against each other.

2010 8th Region?
:thumb: Walton has not won the region since 1993. With that victory I believe they won 7 regional titles out of 14 seasons (79, 83, 85, 86, 88, 90 & 93), but a couple were in the 10th before they were moved to the 8th. I agree it is going to be a while before Walton competes for another region title.
-
Walton Verona 46 Grant County 35
Congrats to the lady Bearcats.
-
Boy-Girl Doubleheaders
I would agree - one bus makes the most sense.
-
7th grade middle school State tournament Feb.5-7
Will Ockerman play today?
-
Elizabethtown 128 Fort Knox 13
I don't blame the girls. I would believe it is the coach who would make that call. And, that is sad if that is the case.
-
Walton Verona 47 Williamstown 38
Walton has one more district game against Grant. If Walton wins then I believe there will be a coin flip for 3rd.
-
Boone County 58 Ryle 53 (OT)
I do not have a dog in this fight, here are the facts of the game last night: 1) anyone discarding Nell as a coach is a hater with an agenda. Facts are facts. 2) the referees did not favor Boone, if anything it was maybe Ryle on the timeout call and not giving 25 a flagrant on the play that everyone is disputing 3) Crittendon and Moss are both fantastic and good kids. People should quit talking about these players like they are pros. They are 15 or 16 and should not be criticized by obsessive parents/ 4) Great crowd, good for Girls basketball (Ryle and Boone fans) 5) Ryle did not get the ball to Crittendon in the last 7 minutes of game. I think Ryle has more talent from player 2 to player 5, but didnt have the coaching last night to let their best player lead them. Especially when Moss had the cramp and was limping while guarding Jenna 6) Anyone who blames the referees for the game last night needs to watch the game again. I have seen poorly officiated games and that was not one of them. Boone coach was not saying anything directly to 25, she repeatedly said flagrant foul, flagrant foul. She was staring at 25 but didnt even come close to bumping her. Watch it again before making such accusations. 7) Contrary to one coaches assessment, there were 2 Division 1 athletes on the floor last night, not 6 like reported early in the year. That is a fact. 8) Outstanding effort by both teams. Those girls played their hearts out. 9) Newport Catholic may be the favorite to win the region

Walton Verona 47 Williamstown 38
Congrats to Kelli Dixon for scoring her 1000th point during the game.
-
Simon Kenton 41 Walton Verona 34
Game was tied with 1 minute to go and Walton misplayed a high screen and Wainscott hit a three. Walton came down and got an open look and missed from 3 to tie. Wainscott was then fouled and connected on both free throws. In both games this year Wainscott has made critical plays in the last minute of play to seal wins for Simon.

Walton Verona/Simon Kenton Predictions 2/1/10
Improving the schedule should be a big priority for next year.
