I think that Shelby would have to be leading the way. They have a lot coming back that made it to the 8th Region Championship game. They have kids that have been playing together the last couple of years and now know what it takes to get it done. Pitching will be the key for them. They have good arms but to say a shutdown arm maybe on a good day. Also who will be some of the players to watch for?

I suspect it will come down to Shelby County and Anderson County.

Isn't that the case most every year?

Anderson's been very, very good of late...but they are a relative newcomer to 8th region contention. Historically, it's been Shelby and Oldham over last three decades...

Anderson lost a lot of key players but they still have the man beast in Jacob Russell. That is one good young man and sure if one great player no matter what sport he plays. Oldham has a couple good arms that will help them out just don't hit very well. I like what this region brings as you never know what is going to happen. So lets get going!

Shelby and Oldham should both be solid. I suspect Oldham should have the best pitching, however no team looks to have a dominant pitching staff this season. Oldham and Shelby should be the top dogs however the region is still very much up for grabs. Anderson should have at least one solid lefty from last season and Russell should be a good hitter, however they lost so many others it is hard to tell if they will be solid offensively or defensively.

Historically, Walton-Verona has had a strong baseball program. It would be nice to see the program get back to where it once was. The program is in a total state of disarray and there is no direction or leadership. It would be nice to see a little less emphasis put into how the field looks and more into how the team performs.

With that being said, Shelby will probably be the team to beat in 2010.

who are some of the top players in the region beside Russell (anderson Co.) and Pelphrey (Grant Co.)?

There are always teams that susprise everyone. Baseball has so many factors that play into the making of a good team. Just maybe...... it might be one of the underdogs that susprises everyone:sssh::clap:.

Didn't Russell get a scholarship offer to Purdue for baseball and football? And was told to choose one.

DC Craig and Zack Wise of Carroll County are two of the top players in the region. Wise was invited to a Sophomore showcase at UK last year, I think. I'm not much of a baseball man, but I'd like to get out to a game this year when it warms up to watch them as I have heard a lot of good things. This group has been playing together for many many years and this could be their year to make some noise.

He has gotten a lot of attention, but I haven't heard of any offers from a school the size of Purdue.

Agree. Craig and Wise are very two of the top players. Yes, Wise was selected to the sophomore showcase last summer. According to the KHSBCA website, Wise, Wade Mason of Oldham Co. and Tyler Tipton of Shelby Co. were the other sophomores selected from the 8th Region. Should be a competitive year in the 8th Region.
