You seem to really know your basketball in this area, thats great, finally someone who knows some history about the game. Its funny how once you build a Mall and bring in 10 screen Movie theaters, kids decide to no longer play 8-10 hours a day, at the park, projects, public pools, and etc. I know there are that few...Vanhoose, Barker, and some others that work, but IMO that is why ball is down, kids no longer play in the off season. I remember growing up that so many people played ball that even play ground players were as good as the starters...maybe we can get it back to that..

Yeah, I see your point but I think the last two years that teams have been improving. As for the teams you mentioned in that time era, they were good but not compared to the previous 20 years, say...1960-82, and no I am not living in the past or comparing teams, just the parity of it. I personally think that for the 16th region some of its best years were from 1974-1982. Some might argue that fact but that is just MO, and no I did not play in that time, only watched. Good to see you up this late.. ha ha In another thread, I will name the players and the coaches from all the teams during that time period and we will compare notes...

Agree and Disagree...He always was great about keeping his team in striking distance against a better team but I personally thought the year (maybe 82-83) that they should have won the entire state tourney. 1. Boo Williams 2. Andy Garvin (74 inch Vertical, not really but seemed like it) 3. Mark Fuller 4. Mike Scott 5. Either it was Diller, Fraley, Euton, someone That was a team that should have won it all. Cant really blame Coach for the loss but he is the Coach. But he still was a great coach in this region

From about 1984 - 2002, I personally thought that those years were the worse years for Basketball overall in the region. Dont get me wrong there were great great players to come out of that time but I am speaking of overall parity. During those years there were some very good teams but only 2 or 3 in the region. Parity always makes the region more fun and interesting to watch. I mean other than going to watch OJ dunk, who really wants to go watch that team play a local team and beat them by 60. I would much rather watch teams of equal ability go head to head.

The region is another story within itself...things have changed over the years but the future looks bright again for the region

Russell really hasnt peaked , I was seeing how many people were still up. On serious note, it seems that over the last three years that there aare always some distractions on this team. This is a team that can play and beat anyone when they show up to play. Cant look back on last year, and think it is going to be easy, not saying that the kids are doing that either, what I am getting at is that you have to be mentally focused night in and night out, no matter if you are shooting bad, you still have to find a way to win. I wish them well, just dont know what team is going to show up. You know what I mean? Boyd and Fairview is consistent on their play and minset, Russell and Ashland have too many ups and downs, even when they win you look back and think things could have been done differently.

Russell has peaked to early.

I believe you were the one who started disrespecting him first. There is more to being a top 5 player than height, weight, and stats. It is called heart and leadership and Alex has all these qualities and more that make him a complete player.

As I stated in a previous thred, Russell is not going to state. They have good players. Vanhoose is great, but this team has something missing, cant quite put my finger on it. I wish them well but just dont see them going to state. I think there is going to be a big surprise this year come tourney time

CHS, I'm just saying you can show a little class and respect to an obviously struggling program. We are not talking 25, 50, 75 point margin. 101 point margin is IMO a very classless coaching move. I have seen this happen in other games, in other regions, where a team could beat the opposing team by 100 if they wanted. I guess those coaches just wanted to show some (cough, cough) class.

So your saying it is okay to beat someone 101 points for the sake of the younger kids getting to score? Let them score in JV games then. When you know you are going to blow out a team, there is a way of keeping it respectable. Other good teams beat them with the largest margin being 65 points. I'm sure the BH coach knew he would get beaten badly but I would bet if he knew Hart would run the score up (there is no other way of putting it in a 101 pt. win) he would have pulled that game. I fully understand that "younger" players want to score when they get to play varsity but that is no excuse in a margin like this. I would love to see a roster for the teams to see grade levels here. I wonder if BH's roster would even match up to Hart's freshman team? I'm just an outsider looking in, but that score speaks volumes. BTW, I'm sure BH's team works hard everyday in practice too.
