Ballard 84 Trinity 70

Featured Replies

The Bruins had too much firepower for Trinity tonight and they really dictated tempo no matter what Trinity did to try to slow it down.

Trinity handled the tempo fine except for a 3 & 1/2 minute stretch in the third quarter which is usually when Jacobs and Chambless get zero touches.

The point guard play usually folds during the third quarter and then shots get thrown up out of panic from everyone other than those who should be shooting. Jacobs loses his cool and trys to take on the load himself. By the time the team settles down it is a ten point game and then baskets are traded, doing no good.

Like I said this morning, Ballard is too athletic.

I agree .......... To many and presure .... Again Scott Co. and Ballard .........

Ballard looked good for a change

Ballard with 8 or 9 that can play ......or more ......... They will be good .......

It didn't seem to me that Trinity even tried to slow it down, even with a big lead in the first and second quarters. With a team as talented as Ballard, you have to take them out of their game a bit, get them thinking, asking questions and wondering what is happening. Take them out of their comfort zone. In my opinion Trinity did not do this. Nor did T (if memory serves) try to play a zone to stop some of the penetration of B's perimeter players. Maybe Coach Szabo will try some of these things when and if they play for keeps in the 7th region tourney, although I don't expect him to call me for my input. I mean T has Jacobs (22 and 19 last night) as a scorer and inside presence in the half-court game. Why not use him to the fullest (and in so doing maybe keep him fresher)?

Good point. What is hard to figure out is why no screens, picks or specific plays are ever ran for shooters. Chambless hits 4 3's all basically with cross-court passes from Jacobs who was being double teamed. Ballard finally put Twanny on Chambless and then in the second half put someone to faceguard even when the ball was 50 ft away. How do you get open yourself on a consistent basis. As I have said before, Doug Beaumont goes through 3 and 4 screens to get a shot. Trinity basically runs plays to isolate Jacobs, which is ok, but after that the guards are on their own. Which is when Ballard overplays and is able to get some steals. Don't get me wrong, Trinity is in every game but if they would run something for a shooter they may win some close ones. Just an opinion.

Some things I've noticed about Trinity this season. First, the Rocks have no ball handlers. We can't stall with a lead (a sound principle in the past) because we will turn the ball over. Second, the Rocks are terrible from the line. I don't follow the stat lines well enough to post this as a fact. But I've been to many games that we couldn't buy a free throw, and not just the big guys. Third, a number of our guys have a shot that they have a comfort level with and really struggle if they are made to do otherwise. Chambliss can catch and shoot with the best from beyond the arc. If he is made to shoot off the dribble he struggles. All others have similar stories. If I had to pick one fault... ball handling. This has been going on for two years now.
