I believe the cutoff for 4A was 1040 students, based on KHSAA's website for next year's alignment Mercer has 515 boys, double that and that is 1030, also there are usually more females than males.

Both defenses were good against the run, both stacked 9 sometimes everyone in the box. So I think next year it will be a defensive battle, both teams had really good backs, but even better D. Corbin's big back looked tough, I think he was a soph. Russell held Belfry in check rushing, but I still have no doubts of the talent of their backs, it was just Russell's turn, how else were you gonna have a 6 page argument over Merger Co. All Belfry and Corbin fans are welcome to sit on the Russell side and cheer.

Petrino has twice the talent surrounding him, Mathews had those numbers and his team didnt even make the playoffs. Also, with the voting Im sure some thought went ito the fact that Trinity will probably win another State Title, and Petrino will probably get the MVP.

I dont think anyone in their right mind thinks the merger was done for football reasons. I think that people feel Mercer Co. took advantage of the Situation. There is no reason not to have 2 teams that I can think of. That said I still think my Alma-Matter will come home with a repeat. Russell was 5 or 6 maybe 7 touchdowns better than Mercer last yr.

I think the question most Russell fans have, is that why didn't they keep the football teams seperate when they knew how much trouble it was gonna cause, you already said that 9 teams were left without games, some got new ones, some didn't. That means some seniors from those teams got shorted on how many games they get to play, and each one means alot to every player. With the change of classes next yr, it would have been perfect to come in as a merged team, no games would have had to of been dropped. Your number of students are atleast 60% more of our total students. That could mean another player of Clark, Jones, Wills or Frazier's caliber. If not all 4 when you add that many more students. Sure would like to have 4 more of them.

Well either I'm reading it wrong, or it contradicts itself, because on the bottom of page 4 and into 5 under coin toss, it says the top half will be the visiting team. Might be a typo. looks like they may have sent out last yr's paper and just changed the date and some details, possibly overlooked that.

Im just excited to watch this game, win or lose I think it will be a great game, noone has ever answered me on the size of Mercer's line, or the actual timed speed of their back. Did any of them run track last spring? I have heard all about how they have the fastest backs in the state, so I'm sure they are State Champion track stars, or atleast in the final heat.

How big is Mercer Co. across the front lines? What are the times that these backs run? Did they run track last year? I would like to see some real recorded times, not someone just saying, they run a 4.2. I think after watching last weeks Belfry/Russell game, if the Devils can control the line with size and power, I think they have a very good chance to beat a great team.

They will be 3A next year. There district will be compiled of East Carter, West Carter, Lewis County, and Mason. Non-District games, Greenup Co, Boyd Co, Simon Kenton, Raceland, Lawrence Co., and Ashland.

Is any tuition assistance offered to football players that come and play? and how is there travel covered if they come in as a freshman? do their parents have to take them? thats why in these larger counties that have only public schools, you goto the school where you are districted. how far apart are CCHS, HHS, and NCC from the major public schools in the area? If someone from Greenup Co. wanted to goto Russell, depending on where they live, it could very well be a 30-45 min drive.

Can someone explain the no call on the safety? I heard someone say it was a touchback because he never had control, but he touched it at about the 12yd line, and then it rolled into the endzone where he jumped on it and slid out of bounds? Wasn't a big factor in the game because Belfry fumbled shortly after, but I was just wandering if that was the correct call.

Is there a station in Belfry I can pick up and listen to this game?

Will I be able to catch the JC/CCH game on the radio, while Im at the Russell/Belfry game? If so what station will I need to tune into?

My grandparents both went to Easton High back in the late 30's. He also played at Lehigh, they called me at 9 am to tell me the game was on. I couldnt imagine playing football at 9am.

You have 515 boys in your school, which the biggest school in our area is Ashland with 515.5 boys, Russell has 350

I dont believe there are enough "nice" college football fields to do this. even for just semi finals, you would need 8 nice stadiums. I would rather just rotate years with belfry.

I think its going to require russell to goto the pass alot, atleast 20 times to win this game, belfry will be stacking the box like corbin and running alot of stunts, shotgun would be nice to give jones sometime to throw, dont see that happening though, just wishful thinking. 5 guys however cannot block 7-9 guys if they man up with the corners. also, is there any buses being charted by russell? Im thinking of taking one, and saving on some gas, plus I dont know where the new field is at.

when you consolidate, how come they were not moved up in class? with more and more consolidating, this could cause problems in the future, for example, if greenup and russell consolidated with raceland, it would seem quite unfair for them to play in 1a. not that im saying it about mercer they dont have that many more students anyways, but is there a plan by the khsaa to correct this? if it was to happen and a huge gap was created?
