Madison Central 72 Berea 45
MC was horrible shooting the ball in this game, it was only a 10 point lead at halftime....they can still do that and win these easy district games but if they want to get out of the 1st round of region (for only the 2nd time since 2002) they better shoot better...

Keyshawn Simpson (Madison Central) commits to WKU
Simpson to WKU It seems as if Keyshawn has played football and basketball at Madison Central forever. If not for an injury plagued Jr. year, Keyshawn would have gotten much more interest from bigger schools IMO. He is a big, athletic kid who could play several positions for the Toppers, but I see him as an OLB or DE...

Sweet 16 Draw on Jan. 30
:thumb: I will throw in the 16th too as I wanted to see more of Elliott County last year but they ran into a great team in Round 1 (and they should be back this year)...

Rd. 3: Who's the next coach at Covington Catholic?
Kenny Turner to CovCath? Where did this come from? :idunno: Turner coached at Holmes years ago, but has been at Madison Central as an assistant to Bill Cronin (1 year I think) or Paul Rains until he took over the head coaching responsibilities in 2003. I think he is very close, if not already there when it comes to time put in for retirement. I think his son was an assistant football coach at CovCath around 1999-2001.

Kentucky Football
I agree with several others in that I thought the state was down this year as a whole, the top dogs just keep getting better while everyone else is losing ground. 2007 was down compared to the previous seasons as well IMO. Lack of talent may be a reason in some areas, but I blame some of this on coaches trying to run spread offenses when they have no business doing it. Colleges can do it when they have the athletes, and especially the QB to do it, but a lot of schools in KY would be better suited working on fundamentals to death and lining up and playing in simpler schemes.

Playoff Home Field Advantage
I agree with this, logistical nightmare IMO......what if say Boyle County and Bell County this year would have played at Henry Clay's field in the semi's, but Henry Clay would have been playing Trinity somwhere else the same night. Who works the concessions/gate/etc. at Henry Clay? Wouldn't all the usual Henry Clay supporters be at that game? Would Bell and Boyle's supporters have to try and bring food to supply a concession stand or just take a complete loss on concessions? These schools were just used as an example. Also, no college fields in central KY have turf either, so if the state finals can't be held at UK or EKU, multiple high school playoff games in one day wouldn't work either...

If only Four classes, who doesn't have a '08 title
Based on 2006 classifications: 4A Trinity (over Simon Kenton and Christian County) 3A Highlands (over Central, Bell County, Bullitt East (?)) 2A Fort Campbell (over Breathitt County) 1A Newport Central Catholic (over Beechwood, Hazard)

Now that the Championships have been decided...
1. Trinity 2. St. X 3. Highlands 4. Bell County 5. Boyle County 6. Central 7. Ft. Campbell 8. Johnson Central 9. Beechwood 10. Christain County

Class 3A: Central 40 Breathitt County 19
I noticed this in the Estill County game as well. Anyone? I was impressed with Central's QB throwing the ball. He was elusive in the pocket but put some very nice zip on the ball.

Madison Central 51 Clark Co. 46
Is the 11th that much better than any other region (excluding the 7th)? Madison Central is a middle of the pack 11th region team and GRC is the favorite in the 10th, right?

Madison Central 51 Clark Co. 46
How did Zollo play? He should have dominated in this game since Madison Central's biggest player is Keyshawn Simpson, who is a beast, but only 6'2"....

Hazard 28 Lexington Christian Academy 21
Didn't this Hazard team return nearly every contributing player from last season? Sounds like LCA will be in a similar position next year...

Home field advantage strikes again in this series; there must be something about that busride between Hazard and Reynolds Road...

Highlands 42 Whitley County 16
The play of the game IMO was in the 1st quarter with Whitley leading 8-7, Highlands converts a 3rd and 13 to Collinsworth on a GREAT catch around midfield. Birds scored a few plays later and took all the momentum from Whitley. Whitley fumbled at least 3 times and 2 of those were on 4th and short. They had the inside trap going early but way too much Highlands overall.

Richmond Model
Same old story....if they manage to beat Madison Southern or Berea in the 1st round of districts, they will get rolled by Madison Central in the finals and get overwhelmed again in the 1st round of the 11th region tourney.

1A: Lexington Christian Academy Eagles (10-3) at Hazard Bulldogs (10-3)
I know LCA has won the past 2 meetings at home, but didn't LCA travel to Hazard at the end of the 2007 season and get beat?

6A: St. Xavier Tigers (12-0) vs. Trinity Shamrocks (12-1) (at PJCS)
X men 31-28 No doubt about it the winner of this wins December 13 as well.....although I think you could also argue that the 5A Highlands/Johnson Central and the 4A Boyle County/Bell County playoff matchups were/are for the rights to the state titles as well...

Male 41 Madison Central 14
Terrible, terrible performance by Madison Central. I haven't been this disappointed in a team in a long time....if you come out that flat in a 2nd round playoff game you are going to get it handed to you, and they did. The story of the first half was this: Male kickoff, MC return to the 20 yard line, 3 and out, punt.........the punt was either returned for a TD, returned inside the 5, or Male football with great field position. I wasn't overlly impressed with Male's offense since they had such a short field to go on nearly every possession, but Justin Green is very good. Halftime score was 34-0 H. MC has had trouble protecting the passer all year and H exploited this...with 9 men in the box they shut down MC's ground game for the most part and smothered QB Zach Coldiron on every drop back. MC offense looked much better in the 2nd half and should have cut the lead to 34-21 with 10 minutes to go in the game but Tyler Mays dropped a TD pass. The worst part is Madison Central is a very, very Senior laden team...they are going to lose basically everything on offense but RB Shane King and a couple of lineman........defensively they lose 6 or 7 starters...rebuilding years could take place since this years sophmore class is very weak....with T and X on the opposite bracket and 6A being down this year, I thought this was MC's chance at a run, guess not. I agree with colonelfan2001, same old story
