I want to chime in and say yes he did. But in Division 1, it i big business. Think of the talented seniors on both teams and think how many got scholarships to Division 1 schools. My quick recollection of the players in Wes' class that went division 1 was Robey, and Matt Smith. Nate Coomes and Jack Hilt got appointments to the Army and Navy. Maybe someone else can jump in but Dutton, Stein, and Kupper are walking on at UK and U of L. WEs told me it just wasn't the same as Trinity and he wasn't having fun. Hats off to Trinity and X for giving great kids great memories and the film captured a slice of what is right about the programs.

Not about CCH -X. But then again, every thing revolves around one school. CCH led St X last year 14-3 at half. Sometimes teams just don't match up well. Looking at records, X by alot but then UofL was favored by 35 against Syracuse last year and 12 this year.

Just FYI- Central outgained X last week and it wasn't just during the 4th quarter. They will score, count on it. They have tremendous speed. The question is when Central turns the corner, can Highlands keep contain. X found out that they couldn't contain the speed if the first tackler misses.

Just a thought-What makes you think Trinity is better than Central? Both teams lost by 4 scores to X this year, Trinity on a neutral field and Central at St X, both won championships last year, both outgained St X in their games ( if Phillips doesn't take a 29 yard loss) Central has 3 D1 athletes versus 2 possibly 3 for Trinity. Me thinks that alot of people haven't seen Coach Ty Scroggins' team and don't know how good they are. They ran very effectively Friday night on X's defense. Understand that this is a pro Central post.

One difference Travis Wright is the best QB at CSAA in 10 years for running and passing. ( remember that Brohm played tackle for Bernard!)

I think it is time for the John L Smith "boat" talk. He was having dissension his first year at U of L and he told them, either you're in the boat rowing the same way or out of the boat. Successful coaches are detail freaks and see things the way they want it to be. I see some one on one boat meetings in CCH future. You know, I can see where the people involved felt they were enpowered to make the decisions they made, maybe they made that decision before in previous coaching regimes. But it sounds like some got some sour grapes and human nature thought they should share their thoughts and comments. Kind of unfortunate but it comes with the territory. All people can be replaced in time.

I think it was illegal procedure on the offense! My sentiments on the offsides comments and all of the referees. It starts with getting inside the rule book for the foundation of the rule. Then as officials get more experience, then it becomes game management. Friday nights are special nights for all.

Actually, it wasn't the cross country speaker who gave the speech. While that young man is a fine speaker, and a great person and comes from excellent parents, Senior MIchael Edelen gave the Notre Dame speech. He has practiced it and delivered it superbly and is a product of a Notre Dame graduate. By the way, St X's cross country came in second in the Great American Cross Country challence in Birmingham. Seems they can run a little too besides giving speeches! ok, back to football.

I'd like to get some of the Northern Ky opinions of how the big two would do against the Cincy big 5, namely Cincy St X, Moeller, Lasalle, Elder and Colerain? Every one of the Big 5 has at least 1 loss with St X having three losses including one to Trinity. 3 games come to mind, Highlands 18-33 to Colerain, Trinity 17-0 over Cincy St X, Louisville St X 30-6 over Trinity. I know you use comparables in real estate but do you think it applies here? Let us know your opinion- congrats Tigers!

I agree. If Phillips doesn't take the 29 yard loss, Trinity outgains X. 10-6 in the third-and then the turnovers changed the game. Carrico is a nice target, especially on the Tight end screen. I think 24-38 278 is a solid game for QB Smyth. As to X, I thought the slants would work against the always blitzing LB's and they did. Deuce and Neal had nice holes to run through-Kudos to Baisch and company. Not sure what happened on the Botner drop but he was being examined by the doctors for a concussion type injury. Good job but we have to do it again.

You know- being devil's advocate I could use the the same thinking and say some X supporters would say it is not the last 6 out of 7 or any of the 18 years T won championship. So you are right. This is this year.

If you base it on Trinity game viewing, I would totally agree with you. Solid efforts against the teams they played. But I saw Elder dismantle Cincy St X- It was 33-0 with 4 minutes left. Without the 51 yard run, the Cincy St X offense had about 175 yards total offense with 3 sacks. Expect Radcliff to move back to DB next week full time. Btw-X had 24 in the regular season last year and Deuce pulled up with cramps on another TD run to possibly give 31. X had 28 plus the field goal giving possibly 31 in the state final. Last three full regular season football games- X scored 36, 48, and 24 respectfully. There were some pretty good players on those teams too!

Just kidding on that. Certainly the Trinity coaching staff uses the regular season game to analyze and prepare for the BIG game. I made the comment after the regular season game that the Rocks seemed to hold something back and the quick wide passes in the state final proved to be an excellent adjustment to St X's pass rush. I don't think T's defensive coordinator gets enough credit among the Rock faithful. The switch of defenses in the state final also slowed down the Tigers who had scored 60+ points in 3 games including twice in the playoffs. As to the coaching staff in the green and gold, they are very capable and know the game inside and out. IMVHO at times, they seem to overcoach and overthink the situation. It seems as though they feel it would be better to throw a play action pass to fool the defense rather than just to put the ball in the belly of the RB and take 6 yards straight ahead. Yes that's boring. So are field goals to go up two scores. In 2005, with Curley out and a young inexperienced sophomore QB in, they threw 4 straight first downs resulting in 4 straight 2nd and long instead of giving the ball to Mattingly, running behind Justin Jeffries (on first sound!) a 300 pound future UK lineman going against a 187 pound defensive end. The 2006 playoff loss to Male had a great number of solid offensive plays that broke down in execution because they were added that week, not the freshman year and practiced for 4 years. I honestly believe the St X coaching staff can taste the state championship so bad that they may try to tack on more scores in the regular season game if given the chance to prove a point. But remember what makes a good coach-good players. I think the Tigers will overcome all opponents this year. I see it as 31-20 Tigers.

This is really good match up this year with a number of stars on both teams. I too can't wait to see this game. Expect a pretty wide open offense on X's side with Trinity keeping things closer to the vest. Here's how I see it. Kamber, Galbraith, Hall, and Sears are all pretty solid DBs for St X and T won't have that much time so the shorter dump off passes to Phillips and Carrico are going to the main targets I predict against a LB crew not as quick as last years. Expect the Trinity QB to be pressured as X's DL has a decided advantage and expect Foy to knock down at least 2 passes with him being 6'7 going up against much smaller QB. Foy doesn't have to get to the QB-rather he can just wait for the pass and jump then. It isn't something you see everyday and the Cincy St Defense strength was in the LB crew. Once again, Phillips will be made into a blocker on those deep passes but really dumping it off to him will be to Trinity's favor and he has the potential to run away from a covering LB. When X has the ball, expect them to go four and five wide early and see if Trinity will change up from the defensive scheme from 2 weeks ago. Cincy St X couldn't keep the Trinity DL off Luke Massa who broke his collarbone and continued to play under the barrage of 7 sacks and multiple pressures into bad decisions. One difference is the size of St X's backs. While Neal is not that big, Finch and Beach are monsters that can be used in the helping in pass protection or lead blockers on running plays. The difference in the size of the blocking back will allow Brutscher the time to test Trinity deep away from Messina. It is not any secret that Trinity will bring safetys up for run support but expect Bauscher the TE or Goodwin to be the intended receiver deep middle. The difference this year is not the plays called but the hands on their quick receivers and TE. I haven't seen more than 1 drop this year while the Tigers averaged 3 a game last year. Expect play action to Finch and quick passes into Whiting's zone as he blitzes. Also expect a lot of the runs to Whiting's side with 6'6 320 pound Harvey providing the double team and Beach kicking out the end. As to Finch's speed, don't think that foot speed makes Deuce the running back. It is ability to read blocks and cut off them. Speed and size makes this matchup the interesting one as to who walks away with the win. Special teams- Last year X dominated with Chase Carraro and field position in the regular season game. Z had a bad game but expect the Rocks to be solid. Understand that both teams don't punt alot but with Buehner back punting, expect a fake just like Whiting will run the fake punt for T. Prediction: Cameron Smyth is a capable QB who knows the Rock offense inside and out. He is capable of creating big plays. If allowed time, the Rocks can get to 21. It won't be enough.

I can't believe this thread has gone on for this long. The 'it's the rule and they have to enforce it" gang have to understand that the Federation rule book is about 65 pages and are chock full of rules but are much thinner than the 187 page NCAA rule book. Sunday rules are different than Saturday and Friday rules. I am sure that offsides has heard " he's outside the tackles, or the ball was uncatchable, or where's the horse collar flag" this season on a high school game. It is usually followed up with "you gotta call that!" I have some more electronic additions and rules to consider then. Have a sensor along the sideline if a coach steps on the field to coach his team. Remember, it's the rule and the team is gaining an advantage. Install a video camera for the umpire to wear with a wide angle lens because he can't possibly see all of the holding. He reviews after every play. Install a motion detector at the line of scrimmage to determine who jumped first. Have all elgible backs and receivers have electronic kneepads to register where their knee touched. Change the ball to have every other panel with velcro to stop those pesky Tim Phillips' fumbles. It would make catching it easier by not bobbling it. Install an electronic force field between goal posts to register if the kick is good. Lay down a neutral zone rug to insure all offensive lineman's feet are within the required distance on all snaps. That outside lineman's foot seems to make the "straight line" look like an airplane wing. Shouldn't every high school field install the yellow yard-to-gain line across the field? Install a microphone in the facemask to pick up any profanity. Helmet lights up and sends a text message to his mom. What do you think? :lol:
