  1. Nice W considering it was on the road.............. Good Job Tigers!!!!
  2. ^^^ Thanks for the correction. Cats are 3 - 3. Yes, they have matched last years win record.... Still nothing to really hang your hat on. Sounds, again as if a lot of the UK posters are pleased with the status of the program. I raised this point a few weeks ago.... if 5 or 6 W's a season is all your looking for, then hey, things are in great shape.... At this pace, UK will get to the 7 or 8 Win season in 2015. Keep buyin those tickets..... Its the best way to say you enjoy 3, 4 or 5 win seasons....
  3. Vintage UK Football...... Played pretty good but not good enough to get the W..... So, what has changed in the UK program???? Nothing in the w-l column, same ole same ole..... 2 - 4 now..... Comments on the game: UK defense against the run reinforced their national ranking of 100 something out of 118... Just way, way to soft.... D line was totally ineffective. LB and end could not fight off a block utill the opposing ball carrier had netted 4 + yards... This was consistent all night.... I thought UK was supposed to be more physical team this year..... Sure did not show any progress in that department last night. Your playing Spurrier, he is going to have several trick plays, always has always will...... How come UK is so surprised when USC runs these plays???? Poor preparation and poor exicution of UK D game plan.... UK did not play with emotion the first half and the crowd went to sleep.... I did get a laugh in the ESPN2 common tater say that the UK QB Woodson was the best QB "fundamentally" in the country..... Did any one else pick this up??? Hats of to UK for the attempt although "significant" progress was not shown in that game........ so the record stands at 2 - 4 *( But we played Fla tough for a half and we only lost to USC by 7...) This just doesnt cut it for this fan....
  4. Lets look at it this way: UK gets the W against USC. Big blue nation is all hyped up, talks of going bowling are on every talk show, the program is making progress...... Note: This is all theoretical with a UK W over USC... the record stands at 4 - 2 with games @ Miss. ST., Vandy (H) and La - Monroe (H) still on the schedule. Games w/ LSU, GA and TN also.... One can see there is a list of games that are "certianly winnable" and a list of games which are "Iffy at best".... This means UK needs to win 2 out of the 3 games with Miss St, Vandy or La-Monroe...... This situation can cause some major enthusiasum around this part of the country. This is great, it is certianly achieveable given the opponents...... Also, wrt the negative folks (like my self giving them heck prior to the season) will stirr some positive yakers..... Now if UK loses against USC.....3 - 3... UK Must win at MIss. St, beat Vandy and La-Monroe....this can be done but winning on the road is something that UK is not very well versed at..... Lots of speculations here, but losses at LSU, Miss. St leaves the season at 3 - 5 and UK has to win 3 out of the last 4.... one of which has to be GA or TN....... I hope this clears it a little of why this is such a big game against USC...... A w puts the cats on the way to where they want to be.... a L puts them behind the 8 ball with little or no margin for error..... With the internal expectations of 6+ victores (Brooks), this seems to be a potentially great situation or a potentially very negative situation. Its very rare that something positive comes from a negetive situation in UK football.
  5. The Bullseye is clearly on the Bulldogs.....................
  6. ^ Yes you caught me.... Im not your typical bleed big blue die hard fan. A 4 - 8 record is not something I get excited about..... I support good football when I see it, regardless of team. Ive paid attention enough to know that this is the game for UK football this year. A UK loss spells disaster for the rest of the season..... A win spells increased hope and possible bowling...... definite improvement...... UK football does not need me to validate their season. They are earning it each week. When the D is ranked 100 something out of 118.... Its really kinda hard to get into this kind of football. Much better and entertaining football to watch than that product...... I will be watching this sat.
  7. As am X tiger fan I just dont see the rankings..... Does X have talent to end up No. 1, I would say yes but there are a lot af factors that go into that equations. 1. I would not say X is playing at any level deserving of a No. 1 ranking in any pole...... 2. X is supposed to have a boat load of talent in many skilled players, Im not douting coach G, just I have not seen this talent gusing from the field or sidelines just yet. Players showing potential and promise, yes... yet way, way underutilized... Just MHO.... 3. St. X has the beef of the schedule yet to play... PRP (supposed to be v. good this year??), Male ( Certianly a 1 or 2 in the state) and Butler... But befor you cry foul, Playoffs look like this: 1st round => Assuming X Finishes 1 or 2 in the District... vs. Manual, PRP or Butler.... 2nd Round => Male 3rd Round => Trinity 4th Round => Lexington area team....on the road Finals => Western Ky Team or Mountian team.... I really need to see some significant progress in the Tigers to give me an indication that they can make this haul through the playoffs. I dont see any other team making, taking such a road.... This will be a tough road to hold no question...... Either we show progress or we will see fireworks like we have never seen..... I choose to see progress. I dont think is is sound football to keep all your taletnt and tricks bundled for the last three, two weeks of the season. Just not enough time to develop the kids and psychology of what you are trying to achieve...... It will either be a very entertaining run in the playoffs or it will be a short one in my opinion...... Time will tell................ Go Tigers......
  8. Hey Run First; are you trying to say that there is some competition in the district??? If so, Im not buyin it..... I here you, Eastern may have put up some numbers against somebody, but that is a waist of effort against the Trinity D. Rocks roll big time. Several statements to make..... one of which is a thorough wippin on Eastern....... If it will make you feel better, Ill take Eastern and 50..... Ill still loose.......
  9. Will Wolford from St. X => Bills (4 Super Bowls) and Colts Carwell Gardner Trinity => Not sure where, But I know he played several years in the pros.
  10. ^ All of the above is just a small reason it is named "Historic Manual Stsdium". Any other stadium in the state lay claim to having such history? Please share stories of your program and or stadium.
  11. So, in 1924 who played games there??? Male? St. X, Flaget? U of L ? and of course Manual... Just wondering who all used the stadium over the years.... I do remember stories of the stadium hosting the state championship..... Any posters with more experience than me, please help....
  12. I knew it was a few moons ago but just not exactly when.... Thanks Ram
  13. ^ Ive watched many a game in this stadium since 1975. Great place to watch a game with a unique setup with respect to the stands, locker rooms and hill.... I can remember many years ago that the roof tops of the houses on the west and east ends of the stadium would have several people on them watching the games. It got to be quite a "normal" thing back in the late 70's... I understand that many a great football players played on that field over the years: Hornung, Lyons, just to name two.... Many of the Male vs, Manual T-Day games.... St. X games etc... I hope that Manual can keep up the property and maintain the stadium where it is today with respect to facilities etc. Need new lights and restrooms, concession stands etc.... Just how many a young man, middle aged man, old men have visited the local neighborhood pubs over the years on there way to or from Manual stadium??? Great tradition.....
  14. What year was the first year that ballgames were played at Manual stadium??
  15. I think for the most part the ref's do a good job. Obviously, there are times when we all feel as if we have been given the short end, but I truly believe that they try to do their best. Coaches and players are the same, they are trying to do their best..... However, I feel Refs should call what they see, dont anticipate anything, just call what you see ( I must say that you cant see something if your not looking..... be in the right position to make the calls and call what you see....) and be very knowledgeable of the rules... the last point cannot be over emphasized...
  16. I lot of the names I recognize from the past 20+ years. I agree on all accounts. I will add Terry Cooper from St. X to the list. He kicked a 51 yr field goal as time expired in the first half against BD at Old Cardinal Stadium ~1977. To clairify: Bosschers field goal to beat Trinity in the 1997 State game was 26 yards. The fumble that St. X recovered to set up the field position was recovered at the 16. So, X netted about 7 yards to the 9 on three plays.
  17. ^ I dont think they will move the TN game to Lexington. Its going to take a special effort by the coaching staff, players and fans to pull this off Saturday. UK needs to prove they are up to the challenge. Has all the pieces to be one of the best games in Commonwealth this season....
  18. Anything is possible. Im sure UK will dress a football team and show up at game time..... BUT, When was the last time UK beat GA other than a few years back? I dont know exactly but I would guess 20 or 30 years. When was the last time UK won in Knoxville?? Probably 20 or 30 years as well. I keep thinking 1977...as a possibility. Now for the kicker, when was the last time UK beat GA and TN in the same year, regardless of sites..... ever??? I wont be putting any 401K's on the cats in these games.... If you think its a shoe in, have at it... Cats have all the fish they need to fry sat with SC.
  19. ^ Thanks for the clairification. My schedule has Miss. (the "ST" was omitted)... Still not any easier....
  20. Looking at the schedule, I would say UK absolutly needs to get the W against USC. LSU on the road... Mississippi on the road.... (Toss UP, will take a very agressive and focused effort for UK to bring home the W => Not saying it cant be done, but its something the cats are not used to doing at all ....) Georgia at Home.... Vandy at Home.... La-Monroe at Home... Tennessee on the road... Current Record 3 - 2 (Should be ) Victories => Vandy, La-Monroe ( Who knows ) Victories => USC at Home, Mississippi on the road..... I see a better chance for UK to get the key W at Home vs. on the road at Mississippi... Losses => LSU, Georgia, Tennessee This is a must game.........If Big Blue Nation is to go Bowling!!! I WILL WATCH THIS GAME DUE TO THE IMPLICATIONS AND THE SIGNIFICANCE TO THE UK SEASON..... I HOPE IM STILL INTERESTED AT THE START OF THE 4TH QUARTER........
  21. This game is certianly no "softy".... If UK gets the W they deserve it.... Would be a very nice step for the program. Here we go again "IF" and "Would" ....... UK just needs to make it happen. Win baby Win.....
  22. After the first game of the season, the UK progress and the Uof L progress have nothing to do with each other. If U of L finished 10 -2 and UK finished 4 - 8 so what..... The UofL won loss record has nothing to do with UK and vise versa, except for the head to head competition in game 1. One may come to the realization that U of L football is good, maybe very good, but this means nothing for or against the UK program. UK has to earn their own victories. UK fans can come to the understanding that U OF L is in the top 10 and has a nice program (season).... but this does nothing to boost UK's stature? I really am missing your point.
