  1. Looks as if the districts are pretty much the same as befor: St. X has a tougher district and trinity has the weaker district..... Whats new.... 6-3 Butler, Manual, PRP and St. X... Butler has been consistently respectable over the years, winning a couple of State Championships in good years. Manual is improving and they too have a tradition of State Championships and State game appearances in recent years. PRP is supposed to be loaded this year and is probable the big contender to St. X out side of Male for this years district title. It is a relief that Male is not in the district, although, playing against some of the best players this state has ever produced has been a challenge and has helped St. X to where they are today... 6-5 Ballard, Eastern, Seneca and Trinity... Ballard - a step or two below Butler.... Never won a state title and has been the brides maid for many years at the expense of trinity. Dont see this changing.... Eastern - well they are not a team that one is accustomed to seeing compete in the second and third rounds of the playoffs.... .500 at best... Seneca, well except for a very nice year a couple ago, not heard much out of this program either.... From my perspective, sounds as if the St. X bunch got the good tough competition.... the trinity bunch got the watered down version, again...... Your thoughts and comments are welcome.........
  2. Wow, that trinity following sounds convinced that the Tigers have a football team this year...! Not sure where that is coming from, based off of the performance in BG. It is reassuring to note that your arch rival fans have so much respect for you that they try to inflate reality such that you think their tales of 70 point romps are real..... Tigers, keep your head in the game and season at hand and dont pay attention to this stuff..... If you win by 70 points all the St. X fans will talk about the victory...... those rock club fans will be saying something else...... Go get Tigers.......
  3. How well does the Lex Cath fan base travel???
  4. I would suspect Petrino at QB but what about the other positions???
  5. Any word as to who will be starting for trinity in the backfield???? RB, FB, QB, WO etc.
  6. Tigers 28 - 10.... Special teams give up points and score points in this game.....
  7. We have heard freguently just how great the rocks were last year and this year.... We are just passing the word.........
  8. rocks by at least 28..... Could be worse if rocks keep starters in for three full quarters....
  9. Just back from BG (Overnight Roadtrip..) My observations and points of emphasis for both teams.... Conditions: Extremely hot and both delt with the heat the best they could. First half, was bright sun and direct sun light.... Had to such any energy out of all the players.... I was dying siting and watching in the stands.... @nd half a little cooler, overcast... Field did appear to be moist and slippery. Ball carriers on both side lost footing several times when making cuts.... Observations: BG has good size on the line and really played well. Should be prepared for an outstanding season in the chase for the 3A crown. BG will have to settle on a QB. The taller of the two kids they played, is problably more athletic and needs to get comfortable in the pocket and passing game, timing... Even though the Tigers got the W and the statistics were pretty ugly from BG perspective, it was a one play game....Anything can happen in a one play game. My hats off to BG and their team. Great host and great environment for opening weekend football. St.X also needs to find a QB. A least two passes could have been picked by BG. Another couple were "up for grabs and thorwn into double coverage" and there were some floaters....... We all know what floaters turn into...turnovers.... A very poor decision on the pitch out deep in St.X's own territory.... The TO cost 7 points... A couple of balls were droped that were certianlly "catchable". Overall, I was kinda surprised that the X passing game did as well as it did.... several key plays on 3rd and long were execuited..... Not used to seeing that in late August from St. X...... 97 yards passing.... not a bad way to start...We have had much lower passing yard stats for early games..... Anderson was a work horse in the first half. BG keyed on him and St. X did as well ...... No big gainers, several for loss early, then several 7 - 11 yard runs with initial contact after 6 yards.... Finch contributed very well and their is significant potential to cause a lot of people some major headachs...... Need to keep getting reps... Special Teams were not Special..... St. X kicker and punter needs to work on speed of impact on the ball. TWO extra points were blocked because he is too slow to kick the ball... He is actually to slow to get himself in position to kick the ball... Did anyone else see this??? It occured on both extra points and the field goal, so I know it was not a one time thing.... On Kick offs, one went about 6 yards deep in endzone. The other three were to about the 10 or 15...? Not sure what to think about this but, Lots of work to be done.... Punts were slow to get off.... This will be a problem if it is not corrected..... To many steps, etc.... Now, once the kick was in the air.... good hang time and distance.... Good punt coverage aswell...... Gave away a key first down late in ballgame by not focusing on punter and ball...... Overall - First Game, lots of mistakes, plenty to learn from.... Good to get the W and BG has nothing to be ashamed of... BG is very good and they will have a great year. Lots of work to do on the St. X side, I am confident the problems will be corrected. Go Tigers and on to Lex Catholic at the Fort.....
  10. McCreary Co. 1 - 0..... Great start and congratulations. Now make to two in a row......
  11. I have never heard the reason for the restructuring to 6 classes based off of the interest to get more kids in the playoffs..... That explaination does not hold water with the reason for the push to the 6 class system. Now your points are valid, yet all the discussion Ive heard is based on more public schools winning championships (ie. unfair advantage for privates...) These are two separate issues and I think your getting them mixed.... If your point is the true essensce of the restructure.... then why dont we open the playoffs to all the team or the first 5 in each district???? See, that would solve your issue of more kids playing in post season.... Its much more involved that that...You may want to ask your Principal what his position is???? I realize that you probable have your own ideas, but the push from the state AD's and Principles was about "too many titles going to private schools"........ Hence the segregation push and 6 class compromise............ Lets play football, its that time of year.....
  12. Where's all the love for Boone Co. I am not from NKY, but I would anticipate that Boone Co. has a pretty good team. Nothing against Cov Cath, but NOBODY is picking Boone...? Whats going on at Boone???
  13. Looking forward to the first grilled brats of the 06 season..... Any word on what uni's the Tigers will were???
  14. I here you.... Never know whats going on in a coaches mind....
  15. Yes - I agree... But under the seceniro you describe, does it fullfill the objective of the push for realignment??? So we are to have 6 classes in football such that by chance, a smaller or medium size school (which has never won a championship) wins the title game. Great experience I agree... Now lets put that into perspective, we changed all HS football (teams , players etc) to benefit 50 kids at the max...... Why dont we just mail a state championship trophy to all schools..... that way everyone would feel special and would save a lot of money....................... I do not see this truly accomplishing anything. There will be more schools (students) to suffer than benefit from the new format. I believe the new format will not hurt the St. X's and Trinity's, they will still win their fair share of titles. So What have we accomplished????? All of the change, increased expenses, etc for the benefit of the possibility that someone is going to win a championship for the first time..........? I think we have lost perspective on the issue at hand...Kids....!!!!!!!!
  16. What was the ultimate objective of the proposed realingment? From what I understand, in essence was to give more schools (public) a chance to win a state championship... Really, cut through all the discussion, recuriting etc. that to me was the real issue, Look at who's winning all the time.... Now the Accepted system for 2007 will have 6 classes.... How many schools outside of the top 10 that consistently win championships (all classes) will this benefit????? As in winning a championship..... I think the loss of revenue coupled with the increased cost associated with 6 classes will prove to be mistake for the medium and smaller school in all classes. It will not penialize the St. X's and Trinity's of Ky. It will penialize many schools that it is supposed to help........... As in all decisions for HS athletics, the kids need to come to thought befor any irrational decisions are made........
  17. I was surprised that the CJ put X as no 1 preseason. Not sure that is the most objective of decisions. Male is supposed to have all kinds of talent returning. We know what trinity is returning from last years team.... I think it should be T, H, X for preseason.... After that, let the fur and clippings start flying... Should be a very competitive year for most local teams.... Cant want to get over all this preseason hype stuff..... Get on with it......
  18. If presented with a similar situation as the Scott Co. scrimmage last week, do you think that the rocks will go for two points and the win or just work on the line up??? I know its small potatoes but, there seems to be a discripency between what happened last week and the prevailing thought of the rock club? It was communicated on a post earlier this week that the rocks were not trying to win (go for 2) .... ??
  19. If your not pleased with the "Choices" of educational opportunity for your child then explore options.... consider moving to the nearest county which has an outstanding public school. Attend school board meetings and voice concerns and suggestions for improvement.... You see, there are options and choices. I for one just dont see pointing the finger at private schools as an option or a solution to the problem....
  20. I here what you are saying.... Maybe Bob White knows something that he is not supposed to write about???? Lets just talk football and sweep this "speculation" under the rug and forget about it and its existence... I too was a little disappointed in the preview. I must say that, in general, the CJ has lowered its own standards at these type of publications. I would attribute all of it to cost cutting measures.... For instance, look at any Monday CJ.... The Voice Reporter of the mid 70's had just as many pages... It is all a sign of the times.... Overall I think the CJ does a good job of reporting on local HS football. They try to cover the big games and get an opportunity to cover as many different teams as possible... I realize many dont see it that way, but its true...
  21. I thought it was very interesting to note that four out of the five top ranked 4A preseason teams are from the same district..... There is SEC football and then there is OVC football.....
  22. I never said anything against a public school education....or teachers. I am a firm beliver that what makes a quality education is not limited to the following: 1> Whats put on the blackboard.... ciriculum ( a Senior taking Physics and Calculus is getting a better education than one who takes algebra II and consumer mathematics...) 2> Teachers... ( I will leave this subject as is..... I could explain many cases of outstanding examples) Im sure we all can..... 3> Environment => Including expectations for achievement, discipline and respect for other individuals and their property... Educational environment must be conducive for learning.... 4> Facilities... In this day and age... the most advanced computers and science labs are necessary to prepare students for success in higher education. 5> Much like sports.... Students must be challenged. Students must work hard, very hard.... 2 - 3 hours of homework each day, minimum, 6 days a week. These are just some thoughts based off of my experience and education. Again this is NOT an inclusive list.... However, I do challenge the public school system in that the great majority of its students are not completly and consistently subjected to the criteria standards (my suggestions) I have out lined above. I do believe there are some very good public schools and one can get a good education at these schools and any other... However, I think that the public school does not try to exploit the talents on all its students. Yes, I know they say they do, and they are supposed to, but really, when a kid come home from school for four years and never brings home a book.... ??????? 4>
  23. Thats why Im sticking with my prediction of several weeks ago.... probably 3...TD.s.....
