Just turned the radio on to listen to Mason Co. and heard the final score. Lady Fillies win 49 to 36 if I heard correctly. Didn't see this comming.

I dont see the 10th Region powers to be agreeing on a three year deal like the 9th Region. Montgomery Co. is going to want to host at least every 4th year as is Mason Co. I can see the 38th District voting to have NKU host at least once and everyone else in the 10th whether or not they will say it publically or not would like to play it at least once there too. It's all going to come down to the money earned or lost by having it at another location other than the Fieldhouse. Montgomery Co. is on the hot seat this year as far as hosting a good tourny which I am sure they will do with their fine facilities. But every one on this site and those who are not know that the first time this week that someone is turned away because of a sold out crowd all the complaints and bashers will come out of the woodwork. This will be said the same for the NKU folks hosting the tournament and 10th Region officials complaining they want to much of a take for hosting the tournament and everyone saying lets move it back the way it was before. I'm not saying that other people don't deserve a chance to host but we all know how tinkering with something that is a proven moneymaker can play havoc with some people. Good or bad, right or wrong, the days of Mason Co. hosting the 10th Regional Tournament for extended peroiods of time are over with.

Had to listen on the radio and couldn't attend. I belive the radio reported that Augusta shot 64 or 65 percent the first half. The difference in the score being 17 turnovers the first half for the Panthers. Might have been a little closer if they could have handled the pressure. Hope to see Augusta give someone fits next week.

Sorry I did'nt read the newspaper article before posting. I guess the tenth region is still in the mix for moving to NKU on a rotating basis.

I guess this announcement takes the tenth region out of the mix now. Just the constant bickering between Mason Co. hosting supporters and the supporters of Montgomery Co. hosting is all thats left. Can't wait to see the new facility. Good luck next year to the ninth region. I saw the post asking how the money will be disbursed. Curious to know what NKU's cut will be if any.

Sorry about that Gold, but I was trying to make the point about schedule restrictions which was easier to do on the boys schedule. But as for the Mason Co. girls they would have had to drop 1 game to play Augusta at least one time and probably drop a holiday tourny schedule to fit the minimum amount of regional games that would be required under my scenario. I personally feel you should be required to play all district opponents and a set number of regional opponents regardless of how the post season tournaments are drawn.

Congratulations to Coach Kelsch and the Augusta faithful. You gotta love this time of the year, especially in this region!

I guess I'm in the minority on the blind draw. But one question hasn't been addressed on the seeding. If seeding is made the rule for all districts and say for regionals too, wheather it's girls or boys teams, I think you'll see some schools complain about scheduling district and regional opponents instead of higher profile games. I feel if your going to seed, then you should play each district opponent twice, home & away, and the rest of the region once, alternating home games everyother year. In the case of Mason Co. for instance the boys would have been affected worse than than the girls, but they would of had to drop a few higher profile games to accomodate the required minimum amount of games for district and regional seeding games. Just in case some people didn't realize that the Mason boys didn't play a single regular season district game, they would have been forced to drop 3 games against non-region opponents. If those games dropped would have been all home games, just for example purposes, they may not have played Scott Co., Elliott Co., and Bryan Station a second time. Just some food for thought.

I personally prefer blind draws, that's the way it's been since I can remember in the 39th district. But the KHSAA needs to say blind draws or seeding for all districts. Make it uniform and fair across the the entire state. As far as regional tournaments are concerned rhe way it's set up seems to work just fine. I prefer the blind draws just because a smaller or weaker school could draw a equal stature school and be an upset away from a regional berth. Just seems more fair to put everyone in the hat and let the chips fall where they may.

I agree about the open gym statement, the rules need to be enforced, but this means the KHSAA needs to grow a backbone. I was for a 35 sec. clock but after reading the entire thread so far I,ve been convinced to change my mind. Shot selection is going to decline an already abysmal pct. as it is. Get rid of the 3 point arc. A lot of teams either shoot beyond the arc or layups. They have all but neglected the 10 to 15 ft shot and using the backboard is like committing a crime. I feel players might have to actually learn how to set proper screens, weak side rebounding might come back into play instead of the weak side man setting up for an anticipated skip pass for a 3 ball shot and basic passing and offensive skills might develop a little more. Besides the 3 ball down in 3rd through 8th grades is killing some kids because the parents and coaches at those levels are forgetting about teaching other more important fundamentals. I,ve seen it happen for years. Get rid of the dunk also, this is just a shot to get the fans excited. I'm sure Coach O'Hearn would have rather seen Middleton lay the ball off the glass against Scott Co. than miss the dunk when the Royals tried to make a late run.

Heard about the story at 6:00 news and followed up on it at 11 on WLEX on Sat.night. Lawyer and Grandfather knew nothing about the story. The bigger question is whether the judge and commonwealth's attorney knew anything about it and what they will allow Mr. Mackey to do? Story reported his first practice today, plays first game on Tues., my guess he will be in Georgetown still. Instead of some outsider former NBA'er giving advice, where are the parents and grandfather? They should be doing this job. If he was my kid there would'nt be anymore basketball ever until after he pays his dues to the justice system.

Mason Co. has to drop down just because of the lack of bench strength and not to beat a really dead horse here, but the coaching staff's unwillingness to strengthen it. You can't play 3 or 4 on 5 and expect to go far. Three good individual players in their own right but the team aspect is questionable at times, especially this coming year. 1. Montgomery Co. until someone in the region knocks them off! 2. Clark Co. 3. Paris 4. Mason Co. 5. Bracken Co. 6. Bishop Brossart 7. Pendleton Co.

Here are some contenders in the 10th Region, the one's I've seen or been told about. 1. 2003 Mason Co.-Lofton and Company and the pieces fell into place! 2. 1948 Maysville-Coach Jones and Calvert & Cooke and the rest. 3. 2004 Mason Co.-Lofton & Co. come up a little short, but still a good run. 4. 1984 Bourbon Co.-Coach Day and the Colonels one of the best also. 5. 1972 Maysville-Coach Creamer, Walker, Smith, Turner and a Final 4 appearance with a big upset of Louisville Central in the quaterfinals! 6. 1936 Brooksville-Old timers have told me they had a great team. 7. 1981 Mason Co.-Coach Feldhaus starts the run to Rupp with no stars and a total team concept. 8. 1975 Bath Co.-Bruce Jones and Wildcats, a very solid starting 5. 9. 1968 Clark Co.-Lynn Hopewell and Larry Gay led this stong Cardinal Team. 10. 1970 Paris-Coach Redwine and Big Bill Gaines lead a seldom mentioned but very good Paris team. I know I have left out some very good Harrison Co. teams of the 60's and 70's and some very good Clark Co. teams of the 80's that caused my beloved Royals some major problems. Also to all 10th Region fans please refresh my old memory if I have inadvertently left off anybody due to space restraints.

My dad attended Maysville High, he talks about George Cooke playing as an eighth grader under Coach Jones. Got to see Fred Walker too. They have to be 2 of the top 5 at Maysville I believe.
