According to an article online today in the Kentucky Enquirer that was written by Ryan Ernst, the boys and girls 9th region tournaments are going to be held at the new Bank of Kentucky Center here on the campus of Northern Kentucky University. I'm really excited about it...what do the rest of you think?

Officials from the Bank of Kentucky Center are set to announce that the new arena will be the state’s largest venue to host a regional high school basketball tournament.

 

The 9,400-seat arena, which will open later this year on the campus of Northern Kentucky University, will host the Ninth Region boys’ and girls’ basketball tournaments beginning in 2009. Area high school athletic directors, who have worked on the arrangement with arena officials for more than a year, say it is a three-year deal.

While that is a possibility, I think your present reference tabs the 9th Region Tournaments.

 

I'd hate to see a multi-page diatribe ensue about the sacraligiousness of moving the 10th Region tournament to Northern Kentucky just yet. :lol:

The following quote by Stan Steidel does indicate a willingness to partner with the 10th in the future.

 

“I think in the past some people don’t come because it’s so crowded,” said NKAC executive secretary Stan Steidel. “We’ll have probably 8,000 or 9,000 with the new facility. And there’s a possibility, we’ve talked a little bit about trying to host the 10th Region (Tournament) in the future. Now if you had a Ninth and 10th Region boys’ final doubleheader, that’d be exciting. We could sell the place out.”

I'm interested to see what the attendance at these games is like. I'm imagining a sold out or near capacity crowd. While unlikely, that'd be awesome.

I haven't visited campus in a while. Guess I'm going to have to knock off a day of work and go see the new arena and visit some of the old profs.

 

It would be nice to see facilities such as this available in all 16 of our regions, thereby cutting out some of the alleged homerism that occurs.

Not as empty as one may first think. They will have a curtain hiding the top level for smaller events, I am guessing maybe basketball games as well, if they think that they will be smaller crowds.

You could go 9th quarters Mon-Wed. 10th Tues Fri. Semis for both on Sat.

Finals Monday night. That would be the only way to get it done in a week at one location. Another idea would be to have the quarters elsewhere on Mon and Tue. Then bring the semis in, one region Thur, one Fri and have the finals on Sat.

The 6th and 7th regions share a facility, don't they? I am all for having the first round games of the regional tournament at the winner's home gym then going to one gym for the semi's and the finals.
