With NKU playing well and getting a nice new arena you would be supprised how a new arena can attract fans.

I like it. Anything that helps build the buzz for 9th Region basketball will help elevate the play and, hopefully, get the 9th another title.

My concern is that the new arena won't be crowded and will almost be too big for the regional tournament. I'd prefer a packed gym at Conner, Ryle or Holmes over a half-full arena at Bank of Kentucky.

I thought the same thing. While the 9th region tournament is very big, I don't see the semi's or finals attracting 10,000 people. I can see maybe 5000 which would fill any of the above named schools.

 

But then again you never know as maybe some of the college kids at NKU would want to come see some high school action.

But it is the 1st in Campbell County that I can remember. I guess since they never had a place as big as Holmes, Conner, or Ryle they haven't been considered. I'm guessing that Newport's gym would've been the only place they could've attempted it. Does anybody know if years ago they ever held it somewhere in Campbell County when it might've been feasible. I don't go back any further than when it was just Holmes and Conner alternating the privilege.

It used to be held at Campbell County's gym, the old high school that is now the middle school. The rotation then was Holmes, Conner, then CC. Of course that was before they moved to the 10th region and Ryle.

Siver Fox is not wrong, NKU and Bank of Kentucky Center is in Highland Heights, KY. This is in the Campbell County School district attendance area, therefore for the next 3 years the 9th and 10th Region tournaments will be played in the 10th Region. This is a fact!!!

With having the boys and girls tournaments, I would say that you could have each district champ host a runner-up (the gender that has the state tournament first would have the 1st round games on Monday and the other would have the first round games on Tuesday)....Wednesday would be an off day.....SFs for the gender that has the state tournament first could go on Thursday and Friday with the other gender going on Saturday.....Finals same format as previously stated with one gender having the finals on Saturday and the other having it on Monday.

 

Example

 

Monday - Boys QFs at host sites all games at 7 pm

 

Tuesday - Girls QFs at host sites all games at 7 pm

 

Wednesday - off day

 

Thursday - 9th Region Boys SFs with games at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

 

Friday - 10th Region Boys SFs with games at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

 

Saturday - 9th Region Girls SFs with games at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Saturday - 10th Region Girls SFs with games at 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Saturday - 9th Region Boys Final at 6 p.m.

Saturday - 9th Region Boys trophy presentations will follow game and last approximately 15-20 minutes

Saturday - 10th Region Boys Final at 8:15 p.m.

Saturday - 10th Region Boys trophy presentations will follow game and last approximately 15-20 minutes (this would be when each winning team would be allowed to cut down the net from one goal each)

Don't look for this to happen the way outlined above. I talked to the Campbell County Superintendent last night and he said the 10th has a rotation that only brings the boys tourney to the 37th to decide for next year. In 2009 it would be up to the 38th district to determine girls tourney. He very much wants to see a 9th and 10th double header next year. What a great evening for basketball.

With the 10th going out on a limb and giving Montgomery County a chance this year, I could see the 37th giving NKY a try? Would be interesting to see if the basketball fans of the 10th, which have showed such support over the years at the Fieldhouse, would make the drive to NKU to watch the tourney? Guessing many new fans from NKY would attend, especially if one of their schools were involved; and realize they play a pretty good brand of hoops in the 10th!!

I am sure if it is at NKU next year, which I hope it is, you will have a big crowd from the Clark fans....and it will be a long trip for us.

"Out on a limb" may have been the wrong term, but when you move something as traditional and successful, as "the 10th at the Fieldhouse", you have to admit its a bit of a gamble?? Guessing if the money's right, or should I say, rent's not too steep; you'll see the 37th vote to give NKU a try!! If so, hope you & your fans make the trip, and you'll understand what your NKY brethern have been dealing with since the original realignment.

 

Personally, I've got mixed emotions, as I always thought the Fieldhouse was a great venue, despite the obvious home advantage for a certain participant?? Guessing my opinion won't matter, but a certain set of brothers could probably tilt the decision if they so chose, especially with only 3 votes needed to move the thing to the new arena!!
