Siver Fox is not wrong, NKU and Bank of Kentucky Center is in Highland Heights, KY. This is in the Campbell County School district attendance area, therefore for the next 3 years the 9th and 10th Region tournaments will be played in the 10th Region. This is a fact!!!

It used to be held at Campbell County's gym, the old high school that is now the middle school. The rotation then was Holmes, Conner, then CC. Of course that was before they moved to the 10th region and Ryle.

 

Campbell County was in the roatation prior to the Holmes gym opening. Holmes gym, held it's first Ninth Region Tournament in 1968. I know the 67 Tournament was held at Campbell County, but not sure if that was CC first or not.

The 6th and 7th regions share a facility, don't they? I am all for having the first round games of the regional tournament at the winner's home gym then going to one gym for the semi's and the finals.

 

I think the big difference between the 6th/7th compared to the 9th/10th is the distance to travel to the game sight. Not many schools in the 6th or 7th have to travel over a hundred miles to play at the shared game site.

If they don't show the games live on cable, then I think a lot of people will be surprised at how many people will attend the games. A lot of casual HS sports fans (unless your team is playing) just don't want to deal with the hassle of parking, sweaty gyms, and the like. Give them a place to go and watch good HS basketball without all of the above hassles and they will come out in large numbers.

All I am saying is that the gym is in the 10th. HHS and Newport are closer.

An excellent source close to the situation said that a meeting will be held next week to propose that the 2009 10th Region Tournament be held at the new NKU Bank of Kentucky Center.

Guessing the top three district teams, and two are coached by brothers, would agree that would do it, although it's hard to imagine Silver Grove or Calvary objecting to the idea of traveling 10 minutes vs. 1 -1 1/2 hours to the regional site?? Wouldn't be surprised to see a 5-0 vote on this one--At least to give it a try??

I am curious Mustang, but since the Ninth already has a contract with NKU for the next three years, and since the dates are going to be in the same time frame, for the events, won't the Tenth have to get permission from the Ninth to share the Arena? I mean NKU has committed themselves to the Ninth, so without the Ninth okay how could the Tenth move in now?

 

No problem with the two sharing the Arena at all from my end, but.....a signed contract might mean something else, unless a deal/clause was worked out in advance.

With any luck the 9th region tournament will be played at the Bank of Ky Arena for the duration of the the existing contract and thereafter into perpetuity, with a rotation of host schools. Except when it is Beechwood's turn to host, when the games will, of course, be played at Holmes.

According to an article online today in the Kentucky Enquirer that was written by Ryan Ernst, the boys and girls 9th region tournaments are going to be held at the new Bank of Kentucky Center here on the campus of Northern Kentucky University. I'm really excited about it...what do the rest of you think?

I dont see the 10th Region powers to be agreeing on a three year deal like the 9th Region. Montgomery Co. is going to want to host at least every 4th year as is Mason Co. I can see the 38th District voting to have NKU host at least once and everyone else in the 10th whether or not they will say it publically or not would like to play it at least once there too. It's all going to come down to the money earned or lost by having it at another location other than the Fieldhouse. Montgomery Co. is on the hot seat this year as far as hosting a good tourny which I am sure they will do with their fine facilities. But every one on this site and those who are not know that the first time this week that someone is turned away because of a sold out crowd all the complaints and bashers will come out of the woodwork. This will be said the same for the NKU folks hosting the tournament and 10th Region officials complaining they want to much of a take for hosting the tournament and everyone saying lets move it back the way it was before. I'm not saying that other people don't deserve a chance to host but we all know how tinkering with something that is a proven moneymaker can play havoc with some people. Good or bad, right or wrong, the days of Mason Co. hosting the 10th Regional Tournament for extended peroiods of time are over with.

I agree the decision by the 38th will be interesting (I think its their choice in '09-'10) as they are kind of in between, while probably closer to NKU by a little bit. I'm guessing the 37th ('08-'09 season) will try to host at NKU if the $$'s are right, and the schedule can be worked out; as it's just too convienent about 10 minutes from each school), and the opportunity to try new arena would be too tempting to pass up?
