Officials from the Bank of Kentucky Center are set to announce that the new arena will be the state’s largest venue to host a regional high school basketball tournament.

The 9,400-seat arena, which will open later this year on the campus of Northern Kentucky University, will host the Ninth Region boys’ and girls’ basketball tournaments beginning in 2009. Area high school athletic directors, who have worked on the arrangement with arena officials for more than a year, say it is a three-year deal.

I'm going to get Kevin Contardo, the arena director of marketing on the show to talk about this. He and I go back a ways.

So who gets the gate money?

Bellevue. If they hit the draw again:D

I thought Conner was bigger than Ryle, some where nearer 4000.

Anyway that sounds great for the ninth region.

To make this a 3 year agreement did that mean that the 3 schools, who rotate holding the regional tournament, each had to agree to this. Before this agreement, from what I understand, that every year the host school was going to decide on an individual basis if they would move the tournament.

Cannot wait to see the regional tournament in a big time arena.

I guess this announcement takes the tenth region out of the mix now. Just the constant bickering between Mason Co. hosting supporters and the supporters of Montgomery Co. hosting is all thats left. Can't wait to see the new facility. Good luck next year to the ninth region. I saw the post asking how the money will be disbursed. Curious to know what NKU's cut will be if any.

Sorry I did'nt read the newspaper article before posting. I guess the tenth region is still in the mix for moving to NKU on a rotating basis.

In nthe article Stan Steidel touched on a very valid point. I know a lot of people who would love to go to the regional tourneys but just aren't going to fight the crowds. You almost have to have a rooting interest in the game to get there an hour or more ahead of time just to get in. Now that will all be aliveated. Great news.

Not the girls. I think everyone assumed Belevue girls would beat Dayton. Good for Dayton.

Why would the 3 schools that currently host have any say?

This will be great for the 9th Region. Will make it a true neutral floor with no home court advantage.

Personally I'd like to see both regions use the new arena for their regional tournaments. It might be difficult to do initially but I believe with time it could be worked out. How about a friday girls and boys semifinal from both regions and on Saturday boys and girls finals for both regions. The place would be packed and the atmosphere electric..
