Does everyone favor the current format of having a district tournament to decide the region participants?

 

It seems like if the KHSAA wanted to actually reward the KIDS and teams that were working to be successful, they would first make every district play a home and away game and force them to seed.

 

If they did this, they could then have a regional tournament with the first place team from district A playing the fourth place team from district B and so on and so forth.

 

We see some dominate districts where two of the top region teams will stay home and then we see some districts draw where they pit the top two teams, which makes absolutely no sense.

 

It just seems like there is a better way. What do you guys think?

I do agree that every district should seed, but I beleive the first round of the play-offs should be against teams in your district like it is now.

Being new to the format that they are in now (formerly of Ohio), I think the District format is going to be hard to get away from......KY is big on tradition (and rightfully so). However, I agree, all districts should either seed or draw. Seeding seems to be the heavily favorite way of doing it here on BGP. The one drawback to Districts instead of an open draw with classes like Ohio is that some Districts are weaker and some are stronger.....but my main issue would be that all Districts should seed!

Yes all districts should seed, however I don't see a problem with how the region tournament is conducted where you have the winner playing the runnerup and keeping each district team in opposite brackets.

I personally prefer blind draws, that's the way it's been since I can remember in the 39th district. But the KHSAA needs to say blind draws or seeding for all districts. Make it uniform and fair across the the entire state. As far as regional tournaments are concerned rhe way it's set up seems to work just fine. I prefer the blind draws just because a smaller or weaker school could draw a equal stature school and be an upset away from a regional berth. Just seems more fair to put everyone in the hat and let the chips fall where they may.

I think that all districts should seeded and to be honest I would not have a problem with the regions being seeded too, if a fair method of seeding were possible. But if an amiable seeding of the regions isn't possible then I would leave the regions as they are.

I agree, a seeding there seems logical also, but that is just my opinion. Have the coaches in the Regional vote and seed them.

The coaches voting would be the logical and maybe the most easily agreed upon way to seed the regions.

I like the district format deciding regional teams. I also think that all district and regional tournaments should be seeded. You will have the occasional weak district that puts teams in the regional tournament when stronger teams are eliminated in tough districts, but I think that's something we just have to live with.

I agree with Seeding and advancement, based off District. How would the Regional seeding be done.

 

Overall best record in the Region, gets #1. Then, remaining teams are placed accordingly or another method?

I guess I'm in the minority on the blind draw. But one question hasn't been addressed on the seeding. If seeding is made the rule for all districts and say for regionals too, wheather it's girls or boys teams, I think you'll see some schools complain about scheduling district and regional opponents instead of higher profile games. I feel if your going to seed, then you should play each district opponent twice, home & away, and the rest of the region once, alternating home games everyother year. In the case of Mason Co. for instance the boys would have been affected worse than than the girls, but they would of had to drop a few higher profile games to accomodate the required minimum amount of games for district and regional seeding games. Just in case some people didn't realize that the Mason boys didn't play a single regular season district game, they would have been forced to drop 3 games against non-region opponents. If those games dropped would have been all home games, just for example purposes, they may not have played Scott Co., Elliott Co., and Bryan Station a second time. Just some food for thought.

I love the blind draw for districts, but I also love dawgs. Also, seeding for the regional tournament should never happen. This makes things more interesting for the teams who really don't have a chance otherwise!

Regional seeding would be a disaster, especially asking coaches to vote. They have too much to gain and lose to trust them to vote at that point.

The coaches in Ohio seed their tourneys and it is works out well.

The way that it is now is best. If your district runner-up, you most likely woudn't want to draw the team that just beat you.
