You are absolutely correct. I have let this get out of hand with some stupid statements that I made from the hurt I felt for the players and apologize to anyone that I have offended. We are all adults and I haven't acted like one today.

I am all for any person finding a better situation for him and his family. That may or may not be the case. He told his players and wrote a letter to the parents, telling them that he had issued an ultimatum to the superintendent and got his hand called, forcing him to take the Henry County job. He had coached here One Year and didn't get what he wanted and painted himself into a corner, leaving the team after spring practice, where they thought they were learning a new offense. One that they may or may not get to use. The kids and the parents who had supported the program and given whatever was requested are now holding the bag, both emotionally and financially.

I apparently am a victim of false information. Sounds like we feel the same pain when it comes to the Central Office and athletics on both sides of town. I humbly withdraw the inequitable portion of my original comment.

The booster club did indeed agree to send the staff to the clinic under the assumption that the team would be running the offense under the direction of the coach requesting the trip. The school is now in the process of hiring a new coach who will be choosing his own offense and defense, as well as his own staff and it should be no other way. My point is that if he would want to use the materials, that is great and we have spent the money on the kids where it belongs. If not, we have thrown money out the window that should be going for the good of the kids. Kids who have washed cars, sold cookies and discount cards and everything else, not to mention parents who have worked in a bingo hall night after night.

After the football field at Franklin County was redone last year, it was in the budget to regrade and sprig the WHHS field this year but WHHS was turned down cold when it came time to start the project. The boosters also had made a proposal to donate materials and was going to build a weight facility because our fieldhouse was cut back in size when built. All that was asked was grading and concrete. Again, the request was brushed aside.

While I agree that the Central Office (Superintendant) has not been responsive or even remotely equitable in his treatment of WHHS, I disagree that this is the only issue here. WHHS made a terrible choice in their last two coaching changes. Instead of looking for people with the players and THEIR futures at heart, they choice the epitome of arrogance and people who were only interested in their own coaching careers who coached with one eye on the highway at all times. They had a candidate in both instances who would have stayed, been successful, worked within the system and made the best of it, and done whatever it took to put many, many kids in college but the administration and selection committees chose to throw him away. I am talking about Enoch Welch. Football's loss is WHHS basketball's gain. Keep an eye on this program. It will be successful and run with class and dignity for years to come.

I'm sure Coach Engstrand will be sending the check to reimburse the boosters for the Tony Franklin clinic shortly or he may let the Henry County Boosters foot the bill. We will see if he does the right thing or not.

Shelby County could make some noise if they come to play. Have seen some lackadaisical effort at times but if you don't play this time of year in Rupp, you can't play.

Lexington Catholic will not roll over and will bring their best game, but I still believe talent and depth will prevail in the end. Scott County by 10+. It will be very entertaining.

It is hard to argue that point on paper, but one team against the field is usually a bad bet.

I'm going to add Tyler Combess of Western Hills. He is the starting point guard for the basketball team, starting tailback on the football team and is the regional champion in the 300M hurdles as well as going to state in two other relay events in Track. His freshman and sophomore year, he also ran Cross Country on Saturday after playing football on Friday. I thought that was an interesting combination when I read about it.

Franklin County got "out-toughed" last night. It seemed that Woodford County wanted it more. Desire beat talent last night in my opinion. Congratulations to both teams on advancing and to all players on the 41st District all-tournament team.

I think Franklin County will win by 10+.

I feel the coach of the year should be judged on what he did with the talent he had, plentiful or not. It is as difficult, at times, to reach your potential with a lot of talent as it is to coax more success out of a less than talented group of players. Success is a very relative term.

Great ballgame to watch. It was a shame that either team had to lose. That's what makes district tournaments so fun to follow. Great job to both teams!

Franklin County will get by Frankfort, but not as easily as most think and I believe Western Hills will get by Woodford at home in a mild upset.

How could a head coach not shake hands after the game and keep his job?? He is an educator first and this is a major life lesson that is taught by playing a GAME!!, then realizing, just as we all do in life that a). Things do not always turn out how you would like it and b). You will not always agree with those in charge but must learn to deal with it. Any coach who is not willing to set this example would not one that I would want associated with a group of teenagers that represented my school.

When a true shooter doesn't hit, there is usually a reason. Western Hills was in a matchup 2-3 with Combess, #5 on top keeping the shooters a little out of their comfort zone all night. The "terrible defense" by the top men on this zone, Kendell #13 and Combess collected 9 steals in the second half alone resulting in layups. This equated to a "W" for Western Hills and was the difference. St. Henry is a fine team and I would like to compliment them on their behavior and the polite way they behaved. Our coaching staff was very complimentary of the kids. Good luck to them in the post season!

If Western Hills comes out aggressive, stays within their game plan and doesn't get caught up in all the pushing and shoving Woodford will do, the chances are very good, in my opinion, that they will win.

Wolverines came out extremely flat but turned up the defensive pressure in the second half to overcome a solid Saint Henry team.

Fort Knox had some good individual athletes but Western Hills, (when they stayed focused) beat them with defense and teamwork. Kris Toles had a great game on both ends of the floor. You have to like the intensity that Combess and Kendell bring to the table as well. They keep the pot stirred. Charles Keene continues to be their steady leader and does a lot more than the stats show. They have many kids who have contributed in a turnaround year for the Wolverines. Good luck to them the rest of the season and in the postseason.
