The difficult thing in Frankfort/Franklin County is that you have three High Schools in a County with less population than for example neighboring Scott County (one high school). It spreads the talent making it very difficult to compete in the 11th. When there were only two High Schools in Frankfort/Franklin County back in 1980 (year before the county split and added Western Hills) both Frankfort and Franklin County had top rated football and basketball programs. In !980 Franfort and Franklin County were rated in the top 5 in the state in basketball almost the entire year, with Franklin County winning the 11th region. I wish the best for Frankfort basketball, but really would like to see only two High schools in Frankfort/Franklin County.

Never said he was a no brainer, but I will say I have watched alot of High School Basketball and Demling's lists always have several listed you could say that same thing about. Just my opinion.

You've seen him play Rainman, and you are right about him not having a stellar jump shot, but he has absolutely given kids like #3 Hawkins from MC fits. Timmons has to rank in the top 5 as far as speed, quickness, and explosiveness. He defense can be unreal, he can flat out get to the rim, and he can make free throws (shoots a bunch). Yes he is football first, but also a lot of fun to watch on the hardwood. Three sport transfer Logan Woodside will be a great addition to FC. Friday night lights at FC should be interesting with Woodside at QB and Timmons at tailback

Ryam Timmons not even in the top 25???? You have got to be kidding me!! Oh, my bad, these are Demlings rankings. Most of these kids in the top 25, can't guard Timmons, HE'S TOO FAST......

Franklin County has one of the fastest point guards in the State in Ryan Timmons. They have also picked up a quality transfer Logan Woodside.

Franklin County picks up 3 sport athlete Logan Woodside. I am told he is enrolled and his eligibility for the upcoming school year has been approved by the KHSAA.

Is he a guard or a big? Transy indeed has young talent that has a goal of making a D3 run this upcoming year. Started sophmores and freshmen last season. I am very interested in the incoming talent. D3 ball is a very competetive brand of basketball, and the Heartland conference has parity with kids that can flat out shoot the basketball.

I can't disagree with your statement about their 2-2-1, and in my opinion it works well in high school because normally high school teams do not have a full compliment of ball handlers, and do not have a good press break strategy. High school kids panic against this press. Madison Central had a great run in the region, but ball handling against pressure was a weakness in my opinion. I have also seen Dixie play and I think their ball handling is much better. All it takes to beat Catholic's 2-2-1 is a good press break strategy, patience, and being strong with the ball. if Dixie can beat the press consistently and finish strong with layups by Pike on the back end they should have no problem competing with Lexington Catholic.

Don't count Central out ever. Remember when they beat an "unbeatable Scott Co team lead by Mackey and Haddix". Felhaus is a "smart like a fox" coach. In my opinion the best coach in the region. Don't be surprised if they make it to Rupp, and I will say again that he works refs better than any coach, including Billy Hicks. As a matter of fact I think he is heads and shoulders a better coach than Hicks.

Not a just an off night for Hawkins, Timmons had alot to do with him just scoring 6. Fact is that Timmons is much quicker and more explosive than Hawkins, he just doesn't have an outside shot. Timmons is a football player first and a good one at that. His ball handling and especially his left hand improved tremendously this season. If he made a choice to work hard and further develop skills (mid range jumper) in the off season I'm not sure you could find a better point guard in the state.

Don't they have a game to play before the final?

This was a game that the officials in my opinion were "whistle happy". Franklin County had 4 starters on the bench the majority of the 3rd quarter including point guard Ryan Timmons who picked up two "ticky tack" fouls 30 seconds into the 3rd quarter. I know the foul differential was in MC's favor the first half and I would speculate for the entire game. Feldhaus is a very good coach and is known for working officials as well as any coach in KY. I've watched alot of basketball over the years and Hawkin's drive to the basket after FC took the lead on Meyer's three 72-71, could have easily been a no call. The shot was contested and I have witnessed that type play being a no call many times over the years. It just didn't go FC's way on this night. All that said it was an entertaining basketball game, with great atmosphere, and some great plays on the court from both teams. Best of luck to Madison Central the rest of the way!! Feldhaus runs a class program at MC, and always gets the maximum out of his players. Also I am told that 12th region officials were used in this contest.

The switch to zone defense was a smart move by Hundley. Also I was watching Johnson signal to Coach Hundley as if he wanted to stay in the game after picking up his second foul early in the second quarter, and Hundley immediately looking down his bench to send in a sub for Johnson. Obviously another very smart coaching move.

I agree on the rebounding, and on paper GRC should outrebound a team like FC by the above margin every night. After all FC was guarding GRC's big men with guards. As I posted earlier FC was outmatched, but should be proud of their effort and will be well prepared for district having played elite competition. With regard to the refs, looked to me like Roger's fouled the much quicker Timmons by holding him when he drove to the basket several times. I'm not sure he picked up one foul in the first half. In any event the better team won the game. GRC's coaches need to turn Robbie Stenzel loose. I think GRC will go as far as Stenzel takes them (possibly a state championship). When he creates it opens things up for the bigs down low. Looks to me like the coaches may be holding him back a bit.

GRC probably overlooking Franklin Co. Tonight. FC is very young, and was obviously overmatched but to their credit did not play scared. Robbie Stenzil in my opinion is the best player for GRC. This is the first time I've seen them play this season. Probably an off night for them. This game should serve as a wake up call if they want to go deep into the post season. Don't overlook anyone. Come with intensity from start to finish every night. Robbie Stenzil needs to be more aggressive offensively. He is being too unselfish in my opinion. When he is aggressive the rest of the team plays harder.

Jeff Morrow is not the answer. He is consistenty controversial.

Just curious why Dixie Hieghts gets no consideration here? Scott County at #8 after getting beat by Lexington Christian??

GRC has too much experience to let the 2-2-1 bother them. Turnovers against that press can happen on the front end as well as the back end. I think the reason it works well against high school competition is that teams do not have a full complement of ball handlers, and teams become tentative, with the end result being that they freak out. It really isn't, in my opinion that difficult a press to break, but it requires patience and at the same time a plan to attack, with the goal of getting a layup. My guess is that GRC accomplished that as evidenced by the picture of the dunk in this thread.

I think you're break down is right on target. My interpretation of your post is that the 11th is wide open, with no clearcut favorite. The 11th region tournament will be very competetive, and there will be some upsets.

22 for FC has no conscience. FC coach had to bench him several times during the game for taking bad shots, but he kept jackin em up. The last shot he jacked up was from about 28 feet.
