3A: LexCath CovCath Highlands Harrison County Bowling Green

During the 3A final there was a guy in a red shirt on the field letting the officials know when the game could resume just like the white shirts in college. Was this the case in the other classes? If so, I suspect the games will be televised somewhere.

Speaking for myself, the rest of the season was anticlimatic after the unexpected win at Highlands. Hoping for two in a row. (But not likely I know)

Congrats to both teams on getting to the Pizza Box. The football Gods seemed to be on LexCath's sidelines today. It wasn't one of our better offensive showings but the defense played their best game since Highlands. I was surprised that BG only seemed to rush three guys most of the time. I thought LexCath passed too much but you can't argue with the result. BG seemed to run a similar offense as Highlands so thanks H for the tuneup. Thanks coach Sphire for another great season! I picked the Rocks this week in the contest mostly because it's hard to beat a rival twice. Congrats Trinity and thanks for keeping my contest hopes alive.

The Knights biggest win was over Highlands on the road. LexCath played a complete game and possibly their best. I doubt if the state championship game will match the Highlands game for LexCath, win or lose.

I noticed the same thing the prior two weeks. When LexCath was going to play Highlands there were a ton of posts about the game before and after. The traffic went down by 90% the following week when LexCath was going to play Rockcastle. I ascribe this to the knowledge and fantacism of the Northern Ky followers. Also though, there are fewer teams left and you don't get the crossover effect from fans whose teams have been eliminated. There is no way that interest in football in Central Ky matches NKy.

Highlands was an excellent team which required LexCath to keep the strting defense in til the very end. St. X. and Scott, Franklin, Rockcastle and Harrison Counties were the other teams that forced Catholic to play their starters throughout the game. Most of the others scored against JV players. LexCath could probably have had about five shutouts if that was their goal. Highlands had a very good offense, LexCath just matched up very well against them.

You accuse LexCath of choking in big games and then say, no offense is intended. Does this technique work well for you? If Bowling Green wins does it mean LexCath is better but choked? I don't think you are giving the Purples enough credit and certainly not LexCath. This is a very good LexCath team which has gone further than others because they were better than the competition this year. Beating the NKy champion to get this far requires an exceptional team. This year LexCath was a little better partly because of a general off year for NKy teams. I'm not sure this is LexCath's best team but they have accomplished more partly because of the afforementioned factors falling in place. If they beat Bowling Green it will be an upset not a choke as you imply. See the rankings and preditions on this thread.

I just remember how fans were worried about who the quarterback would be, no disrespect intended to Burke. There will be a drop at his position I'm sure.

At the beginning of the year I thought Micah Johnson was the frontrunner for Mr. Football followed by several others including Justin Burke and Will Fidler. I think it is a given that no one has had a better season this year than Justin. He is the undisputed leader of the state's best offense and controls that offense like an artist. He excells in the classroom and is extremely articulate. He will be a fine representative for the state of Kentucky in any field. I can't imagine anyone being more deserving.

Three years ago when Jacob Doss graduated, not many thought LexCath would be very good because there was no heir apparent except maybe for his younger brother Tanner. But Tanner was challenged in Spring and Fall practices by an upstart named Justin Burke. This seems to occur fairly regularly at LexCath, about every three years. The backup this year has been Tyler Hancock but I'm sure there will be a battle for the position, there always is.

Trinity LexCath Russell NCC TP 83

Got to see some glimpses of the Rock stadium on TV last night and it looks really fine. As for the game, I've been more impressed with Trinity during the playoffs so I guess I'll go with them but my record in picking 4A is very poor so watch out Rocks!

Defense usually wins championships but LexCath's has inproved a lot since the playoffs began. A LexCath effort like the one against Highlands will win regardless of what BG does. An effort like tonight will result in a close game. Is BG a big team or do they depend more on quickness? LexCath has size and quickness but generally not in the same players. I think most people would talk about quickness first when referring to LexCath.

This game went about as expected although it was very close for a half. Rockcastle had some nice looking lineman and probably could have kept it closer if they hadn't tried to pass as much as they did. LexCath couldn't seem to hold them when they ran it up the middle. But they didn't really concentrate on the running game until they were down by 2 tds. Justin Burke was his usual superb self. Shane Israel got a lot of total yards. The Rockcastle crowd was one of the louder groups to come to Ford stadium. Looking forward to the battle between the irresistable force and the immoveable object next week.

I didn't bring LexCath into the mix but since you did. I would give the edge in skill players to LexCath. The edge in the lines to Trinity and the overall edge to Henry Clay. Regarding your players listed above, Orndorff is a stud, the rest are very good. Chase Minniefield is faster and better then Orndorff I think. In our scirimmage this year, you got three third quarter touchdowns all to Orndorff but this was after he was covered by other guys than Revere. I think in the first half when Revere was on him, he didn't do anything which was why we led at half. In a real game Revere would have been on Orndorff all game like he was on Guglio of Highlands . That's why scrimmages shouldn't be used to totally assess relative strengths of teams. See St. X results.

I've been looking at each teams schedule and wins to date and there is nothing I can see to justify the Rock fans confidence as stated in some of the above posts. I've seen both teams and Henry Clay has better athletes this year. Short of a meltdown, HC should win. The only advantage Trinity has is in their tradition and the homefield. This is not the Cats and Cards guys.
