He probably did stop his watch. The official time is usually kept on the field by the officials and the scoreboard is just a guide in this case. The NFHS rules do allow for the official to stop time during the match. Time is stopped in high school matches after a goal, a caution, a disqualification, an injury, or at the referees discretion. "Stoppage time" usually refers to time "added" on at the end. That does not occur in high school soccer per NFHS rules. Unlike NFHS rules, in FIFA rules, the clock runs throughout the match so "stoppage time" is added to account for injuries, goals, etc that occur while the clock runs.

There is no "stoppage time" in high school soccer per NFHS rules. Great win!!!

I agree that this game will be closer than people think. However I also think the Birds will not overlook the Knights and will win by 3 TD's. The predictions of a running clock and such are extreme. This is a very good Highlands team, but I will be very surprised if it is a running clock game.

:thumb: A very nice goal scored by Smith. A powerful header off a cornerkick. Beerman created havoc in the NCC backline. He is the best striker I have seen this season. He is a relentless worker. The kid is a pitch rat (the soccer equivalent of a gym rat). Every time I go to Tower Park to line the field, to check the irrigation system, to clean the locker room, Beerman is there with his personal set of cones and ball, dribbling through them over and over and over again. If I were a college coach, I would be all over this kid.

Well done BIRDS!!! Keep the eyes on the prize! One week at a time!

I agree they were aiming to kick the ball away from AC, but kicking to the sideline is one thing, a couple of punts that go less then 10 yards is another...

As I said in my last point, yes coaching does and can make a difference, but not near enough of a difference to overcome what CCH's defense is allowing. I am sorry, not trying to be rude and I respect CCH, but the CCH defense clearly does not have the horses to keep up. It is not as if the coaches are calling the wrong defense every play? They just do not have the same level of talent to stop the opponent from moving the ball up and down the field at will. There is a reason Van Sant has so many tackles. He is one of the few that has the ability and talent to do so on that defense.

With as many points as the CCH defense has given up this season that side of the ball is clearly the problem. Coaching may account for a small portion of it, but if you are giving up on average 6 or 7 TD's a game, that tells me there is a HUGE talent gap... No coaching magic bullet for that my friend.

You can instill all you want, but it is on the players to execute. How hard players hit it up to the players. Desire is up to the players. Determination is up to the players. This game was over after two plays (the runback to open the game and the CCH fumble on their first series). The coaches were on the sideline trying to make the players focus, but the players had already dropped their heads at that point. The CCH defense has not stopped anyone all season from scoring. That tells me they do not have the talent on that side of the ball to win. Shanked punts, dropped passes, fumbles, slides in the middle of the field short of the down marker on 3rd down, are all on the players...
