I would be fine with that as well, you still have to beat everyone you play to win it all. We actually took a vote on classification at our coaches meeting this year and it was voted down by a large majority. Luckily from those we have talked to at the KHSAA, they stated that they will rely on what the coaches and AD's want when it comes to classification and as of now, it is not needed or wanted. Might be a possibility down the road and the boys side is a better argument for it.

Right but you could not have a 6 game post season in football, just too many games. A 5 game post season in soccer would be not enough IMO, seems very diluted. It takes 5 games currently to just make the state tournament and 8 or 9 games to win it all.

This is a classification argument you are driving at not public/private. Stay focused... You could look at the entire tournament and find places where a team could have advanced further if they were apart of a different area of the state. Look at Bishop Brossart the last few years. One of the toughest districts in the state. I would argue the flip side that Lyon County and Caldwell County could not be that strong however if they could not get by Bowling Green, Greenwood, or Marshall County as WKY section 1 is 0-15 (which is truly stunning in the game of soccer where flukey things happen and the best team does not always win the game) in the state final four on the girls side. By the way those three you mentioned are all 3A schools and they have lost every year.

But you consider them a large school? Half of the top twenty teams are 2A or smaller, that speaks for itself as far as whether or not things are "competitive" or not.

The other big difference is the number of schools participating in girls soccer vs. track. Just a guess but I bet there are well over 200 schools probably closer to 250 schools participating in track. Therefore splitting that number gives you about 80 ish per class. Girls soccer has around 160 to 170 schools participating. That divides in the mid 50s per class and would make for a 4 or 5 game post season, seems very diluted to me...

You have to look at the whole picture of your theoretical classification, South Oldham is not a 3A school, middle of 2A. Highlands is barely a 2A school in that classification. Same with Elizabethtown. NCC is single A. Bishop Brossart is single A. If you look at the past polls about half of the top twenty teams on the girls side are A or 2A size schools and the poll in 2008 will look very much the same. More than half of the championships have been won by 2A size schools or smaller. Exactly half of the participants in the finals have been 2A schools or smaller. Until the top 20 is dominated by 3A schools or the A and 2A schools are not competitive with those schools, there is no need for classification in girls soccer.

Cov Holy Cross has made the finals twice!!! NCC is a top ten team year in year out. As is Elizabethtown. Bishop Brossart is consistently top 15.

You must be talking about Boys Soccer, because it is absolutely not the case on the girls side...

I am surprised that the number is that low. Especially with the dozens of kids from Ft. Mitchell that play club soccer locally.

BHS is a little different than most as it is 7-12. Elementary is K-6 (I think). So you are telling me that only two girls grade 8 and lower have decided to enroll elsewhere due to soccer not being offered for 9-12 in the last ten years? Or only two that you KNOW of.

Fair enough, however that was not my question. My question was, how many decided to enroll elsewhere after grade 8 because soccer is not an option at BHS?

What was their rationale for it not being adequate???

NDA is one of the most successful programs in the state, yet they have no "home" field. Beechwood would instantly have better "facilities" than NDA has had over the last 20 years.

Do you think it is possible that the reason many of the people involved are middle school kids/parents because they want to be able to send their kids to Beechwood High School and that soccer being a possibility is a factor in their decision making process??? For those already in Beechwood High School, that decision was made already and those same kids that were in the 7th and 8th grade, ended up going to the other surrounding schools because soccer was not a possibility??? How many kids in the 7th and 8th grade do not attend Beechwood High School in the 9th grade because soccer is not offered? If we knew the answer to that question, it would answer the question of volleyball and if the other activities are sustainable. Old ground here... How many girls would leave volleyball for soccer? In my experience, very few do both of those particular sports... Anyone have a link for the article in the paper?

You must not have been at the game as HHS did not shoot any one and ones. First free throws HHS took were with 2 minutes left in the fourth, Towles fouled on a shot in close. Second free throws taken with 22 seconds left in the game, Adler fouled on a three.

I agree. We may have been sitting very close to each other...:eek: I thought the officiating was okay. Free throws were a little lopsided (before HHS started fouling late), but that happens from time to time. One thing I did notice that the HHS coaching staff was on the officials about was 3 seconds in the lane. Many, many times CHS had a player flash to the middle of the paint against the HHS zone and stayed in there for much longer than the 3 seconds allowed. Sometimes that one can be tough to spot, but it was glaring at times and pointed out by the coaches on more than one occasion. It was not called once. What made that tough is the wing players of the HHS zone had to suck in a little to cover that CHS player camping in the lane and it opened up the outside shot a little more than it probably should have and CHS burried a bunch of them. The officiating did not cost HHS the game by any stretch of the imagination. CHS made baskets late in the game when they had to and HHS didn't.
