This is 100% correct. If he was being let go for inappropriate behavior, he would already be gone. This is 100% relational in nature and thus could be worked out if both sides would check their egos at the door and figure it out. If I were the Superintendent of schools...this would be my mandate and I would be the mediator! At the end of the day, the Super has final say in any personnel move!

Funny story has told by a coach at clinic one time. This coach was an assistant and they get to a morning summer practice and their all state dlineman wasn't there. The head coach sent this coach to his house to get him. When the coach arrived at the house, his mom said no Practice until he gets the yard mowed...he didn't do it yesterday when he was supposed to... So this coach calls the head man and tells them the scenario and that this player wouldn't make it to practice...the head coach replies "To heck he won't, you pick up the weed eater and help him get finished!" The language was a little more colorful but I have always loved that story.

One of the big things is having a set schedule year after year and being consistent with that. Things come up out of control, but if players and parents know expected times and dates before hand, I think that helps a lot.

He had some bad misses down the stretch vs Somerset.

30-30 at end of regulation is brutal. I didn't see the game, but it sounds like a rock fight on steroids!

Sometimes Coaches realize that the kids needs sport, more than the sport needs them. Add into that a kid having some talent, and a lot of coaches struggle with the balance of kicking kids to the curb vs what is best for program and team (winning).

I also think the first round game in the regional tourny is the hardest to win because players seam to be nervous or tight!

I hope UK wins this game and then gets bounced 1st round of SEC tourny...get rested and healed up and see if they can make it to the 2nd round (possibly 2nd weekend) of the big tourny!

Sometimes people have to push their ego aside, get in the same room, air their differences and understand the most important decision is doing right by the student/athlete. Unfortunately that doesn't always happen.

If the principal put the Coach on a corrective action plan last year, the coach was smart for looking else where and trying to get out of there. Corrective action plans can be nit picky, subjective and down right petty.

Union co played for the 3A state Championship this year...were beaten by CAL. Great year for athletics at UC. There AD is one of best at promoting his sports teams, players and coaches as well.

It's amazing to me in education, how many adults can "drop the ball" by not thinking of kids and students first. If more admins (adults) in education had this mindset, you would see fewer of these rash egocentric decisions!

I hate that for the young man and for this team.

The irony of Pitino coming to UK, is that it would have never happened in today's landscape. CM Newton waited a long time before Pitino actually agreed to take the job. With social media and NIL/Transfer portal, BBN would have imploded if Barnhart had taken as long as CM did to hire a coach!

And folks thought St Johns was going to fire Pitino after his love affair with the Pope hire and visit to Lexington in October. It was probably in Pitino's psychology the whole time to upset his players and everyone to the point they would show Him! Master psychologist!

Pitino definitely had the charisma and larger than life coming to UK. He showed up with his New York swagger and Armani suits and bred life into a dying program through his own will.

Pearl would have answered the call by saying yes. UK is his dream job. With that said, the powers at be didn't want another bigger than life personality coach coming in IMO. I love Pope and he will be fine...but Pearl is a top 3-5 Coach in the game today.

That's not an uncommon rule for schools/athletic programs to have.

If you liken it to football...fast paced teams on offense sometimes give up more points on defense...why? More possessions! UVA was very good defensively a few years ago, why? They had a clock controlled offense. Anyone remember Tubby Ball...Tubby was thought to be a defensive guru. The nitpicking from the fan base with Cal wasn't so much what he did...but his attitude towards them...he had a tendency to be condescending and arrogant:)

For the coaches who have done this...on the field, did the player call you Coach or Dad?

Which gets you the "we can play 5 different defenses, but we are no good at any of them teams." Like it or not, Cal had lots of Roster turnover and chose to stick to one philosophy and get as good at is as possible. The fans who screamed for zone probably had not ever coached or played basketball past little league (maybe middle school) where kids can't hit open shots and zone defenses are great!

New Coach better get permission to fire any Dad's of current players before their first team meeting it sounds like.
