I have noticed a very obvious absence from one particular poster. Maybe they are no longer a BGP member but where has pldgreatno2 gone? Have been waiting for an explanation from someone "in the know" at Dunbar and pld is nowhere to be found.

Do you expect to see Vic on Defense? I don't ! That was the point, maybe you overlooked that!!!:thumb:

A lot of athletes on the field, may be fewer places to run as expected for Vic. I personally think this will be the telling tale for Mr. Kentucky in Football. Beaumont will be in Vic's face all night on defense. He will get his yards on Offense as well!!!

I would agree that a JV game MIGHT "WEIGH" a liittle more on the Varsity game than a Freshamn game!!!:flame:

Just surfing some threads from before the start of the season and found this to be pretty interesting. That TonyDanza must be a prognosticator extraordinaire!!!

I personally think it is good to be able to "scratch" officials from doing your games. There seems to be this "mightier than thou" attitude by some officials regarding certain coaches. I think an official should not try and work certain games if there is a strong conflict of interests. With the shortage of officials causing some less experienced crews to work certain games, I would prefer to have a more experienced official whenever possible. There is a reason that judges will recuse themselves from court cases, to relieve any doubt or questioning of one's integrity. Sometimes, even if the correct call is made, there will be questioning of a call based on an official's background. Right or wrong, it will happen. To the thread though, I believe that Male has too many weapons and will be swarming on defense limiting the running lanes for Vic or any RB for St. X. The defense can be questioned but with the athleticism on the Male Defense, there will be less room to run and alot of tight coverage on recievers who do not have blazing speed. The passes will have to be PERFECTLY placed or the risk of picks and big returns are high. The Male offense speaks for itself, once again some players stepping up to make you ask, "where did this guy come from?" There are more than enough players to spread the field vertically and horizontally. Again, a mismatch in speed in the secondary will cause problems. Score will be too much to not enough, advantage to Male. I guess something more like 35-14.

Not as snide comment at all !!! Just my HONEST opinion, I am allowed to have an opinion am I not ? PRP is now 0-3 in the district and looking at possibly missing the playoffs if they lose to Butler. A real crazy season in the district again. All the pre season hype for PRP may have raised the expectations a little too high. They are still a young team and can make noise the next few years. On the other hand, relatively low expectations for Manual this season and therefore less pressure to live up to the hype. This young team does not actually know how good they can be. A lot of mistakes on defense against PRP but still managed to keep them scoreless in the second half. A lot of big plays on offense mixed in with a solid ground game and the offense did enough to get the win with the third quarter TD pass.

Oh, and by the way, it was a very physical game with big hits and big plays. When will the Courier Journal or a news channel get an urge to cover a brother duo who competed in this game? Jherray Smith (PRP) and Rhayven Smith (MHS) both carried the ball for almost 150 yards each. Jherray had 16 carries for 143 net yards and Rhayven had 13 carries for 161 net yards. It was a chess match that went down to the last seconds and a punch-counter punch of a game. Maybe if these two played for Big 3 teams they would have been featured already.:thumb:

Several moments where officials were very indecisive in making calls in a timely fashion. If the last pass thrown was a reception, as it must have been deemed, then the clock should have been running and PRP was out of timeouts, GAME OVER! The ball did look to be incomplete and the ref nearest the play failed to signal one way or another. The Referee then came in and made the call and wound the clock whcih subsequently expired. My real concern comes in when the officials seem to stop watching the areas of responsibility and in turn leave players unprotected. Several instances that the officails were out of position and reluctant to make a call. If there is such a demand for qualified officials then I am concerned that some are getting to call varsity games long before they are ready!!! I do not have a solution to the problem but hope that maybe someone out there (in a position to get things rolling) does.

You gotta love this, the MOST ridiculous format for post season ever!!!

Early on, there are alot of teams that have a little trouble getting into the right formations.

I saw Brentwood firsthand and saw MBA on tape. The teams are going in different directions this season. I strongly felt that the Brentwood team would "handle" the MBA team I saw versus Trinity. Combination of the size and speed that BA had was unbelievable. I think the youth at Manual learned a few things in the opening game this season. One thing I saw is that they never gave up. Got beat physically and wore down due to the heat but played hard until the end. The nature of this game only allows a winner and a non-winner per contest. (In most all cases) There are lessons to be taken from any game whether it is victory or defeat, we all know this but sometimes people look only at the W or L. The non district part of a team's schedule is not a playoff threatening part of the season. Use this part of the schedule to build confidence when possible and of course build experience. All the talk last year was about the expectations at Manual but as the saying goes, "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink." A lot of things have to "fall into" place for a special championship season to be achieved. Team chemistry is always a plus as is an overall belief in the program by players, coaches, administration, PARENTS....anyone and everyone involved with the organization. You do not have to agree with everything that is going on in a program to support the players and team. These days it seems that the less a person knows about football (schemes, philosophies, and even rules), the more they act like they know. Parents second guessing play calls, personnel decisions, and schemes without spending the time that a staff spends with a team. There is usually some sort of rhyme to reason, especially if you can remove yourself from looking only from an individual player's (parent's) perpective.

No personal attack RRR but this is a very good reason the program has yet to make "noise" in recent history. There is not that belief that this program can be competitive with the powers in Louisville let alone the state. A lot of "fans" want to prognosticate then say later how "they knew" this and that. Heck, go out on a limb and say, " I think the Rams (my team) can do it!! This goes a long when and CAN BE contagious ! You support your team and program and tell them (and anyone else who will listen) that this program is going to be around. Manual has the ability on given nights to beat the Males, St. Xs, & Trinitys of football. It is difficult to re-instill that overall BELIEF in young players (after seasons of being whipped) but as long as there is some consistency in the program, the players wiill START to believe. When will the FANS start to believe?

I can see your point Rock, just stating that while not many gave Manual a "snowball's chance in Hades" to win this season, there has to be some credit to what the team has accomplished. As hard as it may be for some, some of that credit does need to be given to Nichols. And to counter Rockpride, I do get it "Brother", there are some here that have just as much emotion in posting the negatives about Nichols and the staff. Maybe some of that emotion comes from things that transpired after a game 2 years ago concerning "VideoGate" or just plain rivalry stuff as the games have been fairly competitive in recent years. As I agree that there were times that the pass did help stretch the field for the Manual offense, the conditions did contribute greatly to our inability to beat X with speed. (On the run as well). It was a good defensive effort by St. X on the goal line. While I still believe the pass was a TD we were facing 4th and goal from less than a yard. The X defense aligned with 3 defenders to our weak side and took away a play that should have gone easily for a TD.

TOO CLEVER BY HALF??? What does that mean? Do you actually think that it was Nichols out there missing a tackle that allowed a RB scamper downfield for a score? Get real!!! Just man up and say that after 6 games that Manual MAY BE a surprise to some. Many of you (LSURock included) gave little or no chance for Manual to compete this year. Now it is coaching again that MUST be holding Manual back. I would love to see another coach, after Nichols, succeeed and take them to the next level. With the situation being what it is, I do not see anyone having even as much success as Nichols. "Hey they have a 'Magnet' program, they must get ALL the kids they want......blah,blahblah! They have 750 male students and almost half of them are there for the Performing Arts or MST program, now how many of those boys are going to be studs on Friday nights? Just keep knocking the guys that get something done (with what they have) and keep pounding your chest as the "best" that ever was or will be! Whatever floats your boat!:thumb:

I do not believe that is a "done deal". He did not sound real convincing in his C-J interview a couple weeks ago. May be a chance he stays around here.

Looks to be a favorable time for the bye week and a winnable game vs. Central Hardin. Which of the remaining games are at Nelson County? They may be able to pull out 2-3 more wins depending on the homefield. Good luck to the Cardinals and Coach Bruner.:thumb:

I saw the kicker for Dunbar while at camp this summer. He was very, no VERY GOOD! He was kicking the crud out of the ball. Nonetheless, the old "they are the best 0-6 team in the state" is not very much comfort to a team that had such high expectations. With the RB back in the lineup maybe they win out and make their run in the playoffs. There have been stranger things to happen in Kentucky High School Football.

I believe we were on a "Five Year Plan" five or six years ago, maybe longer. Regardless, we are still waiting for the lights. I know Shawnee got new lights and they make a HUGE difference. The nostalgia at Manual Stadium just touches you when you walk into the stadium and now with some more improvements to the fieldhouse, the history comes to life. Pictures of past teams and players surround the players "watching over" them as they sit on the benches. I still get chills before games as kickoff approaches and you look around the track and see people filing in the stands, band playing, cheerleaders forming the tunnel for the players to run through onto the field. Now that is football! :thumb:
